Why do people in STEM careers use thinkpads?
Im on a mechanical/electrical engineering career and pretty much everyone has thinkpads, im the only one with a macbook.
Not only that but pretty much everyone on social science has macbooks and people on medicine/biology/chemistry stuff use only tablets or netbooks.
Why?
A lot of people use in STEM use thinkpads because they're incredibly cheap, and have a somewhat rugged/functional aesthetic.

Hey /g/ I built this: thehivemind.online
What do you think?

>can't get results for "nigger" and "adolf hitler" cause safesearch
I don't understand why we'd need a website for this. You should make the results clickable, though.
>>54641566
that is a great point

Time to fix some bugs, OP
Ultrabooks general thread for purposes of using the sleek designs, light weight, and durable design (hopefully).
Relatively new to making these general threads, so be nice.
Interested in getting the XPS15, although Dell's quality control is shit.
Should I buy refurbished, or should I buy directly from Dell? I've checked online, and there is opposing opinions on the topic because apparently the quality control of the refurbished are better because they receive a better "inspection" (?)
>>54641415
Buy a refurbished Latitude 7470. They're already on Dell's outlet site. It got an 89% from NotebookCheck. Don't even fuck with the XPS's issues. From subpar battery life, warm temps, and uncontrollable screen brightness, it's just not worth it.
Hell the fuck nah we don't need yet another general on this fucking board eat shit and die kill yourself pls kthxbai
How should I do this? Where should the hot and cold air go?
The CPU fan blows upward, and the GPU fans blow toward the side, over the motherboard.
If your cpu's fan is blowing upwards then having the top fans as exhaust would be best. The typical method would be front and bottom as intake, rear and top as exhaust.
One on the left, hot air rises. It's basic science. Also more output fans is more important than intake.
who fucking cares? it takes 15 seconds to switch the direction. do whatever you want you child
or call geeksquad. in either case fuck off
If OP was a method in C, which would he be?
fgets
Get it, because fgets sounds like faggot
I don't get it.
It's pronounced eff get ess
>>54641167
haahaha yeah i get it hahahaha
If Richard Stallman is about being free why did he want to make an operating system when its purpose is to stop programs from stepping out of line?
>>54641160
It's hypocrite. You forgot the e.
And shut your ignorant mouth.
RMS is infallible.
>>54641160
Shut the fuck up, fag. Don't insult the Messiah.

My spelling mistake doesn't invalidate my point. Prove me otherwise with evidence.
LOL

If they're making fun of the judge, I get it
If they're making fun of the lawyer for not being the person who came up with the acronym himself, they're fucking retarded and deserve all the cia/fbi/etc surveillance up their asses
Surely we are screwed
>>54641126
Recursive acronyms are stupid though.
I honestly think that Gnome is far way better than kde, the scaling, the design, the human guidelines, it's perfect, and a lot of people have told me in the past that i'm wrong, so, why is kde superior?
>>54641072
matt
>>54641088
there was supposed to be a ? there
>>54641072
kde gives you a lot more options but the whole thing is junk and quality control is shit.
Who here /forciblystoppedwindows10/ after it tried installing itself with no permission after months of clicking the X every time it came up?
I just uninstalled all the botnet/GWX updates when they first appeared
>>54640993
I didn't know :(
Had to get a program called Never10 to stop it because I couldn't figure out how and it was 10 minutes from forcing itself upon me, apparently there was a fuck load of win10 files all over
Does never10 work? I'm relatively inexperienced with computers and t b h it looks like some really shitty adware.
How do I know if my GPU is fried? I've been using my card only for 6 months, brand new, and suddenly my pc restarted while playing a game and there are blue pixel lines on the screen and can't start any game now. PC recognizes the card but says it stopped working, reinstalled drivers several times and still the same. Is it ded?
Probably, some GPUs just come from the fav with hardware issues, I have a HD7950 that suddenly stopped working without showing any artifact nor any anomaly, yet I have a 9600GT that still works to this day without issues.
Just fill for a RMA.
>>54640957
You can tell if your pc suddenly restarted while playing a game and there are blue pixel lines on the screen and you can't start any game.

I ordered it from Amazon (warehouse not seller) and tried to find a return section but says its only within 30 days of purchase. Am I fucked?
Nvidia using the exact same fucking graph.
How is Nvidia in anyway better than AMD?
It isn't.
>inb4 I know this graph doesn't proof it
>>54640817
It's not the first time Nvidia does something like this
Probable the hundredth time.
it's says right there "Relative Performance"
Do you even know how to read charts.
/g/ sure gets dumber by the day
What are the top android phones that aren't fucking gigantic? I've been using an original Moto X for the past couple years, but it's shitting out and I'm looking for the next best thing. Why is every new phone over 5 inches?
The Nexus 5x looks promising but it's still considerably larger than the phone I have now.
>>54640780
I have a 5x, it is a little bigger than I'd like with a case on but it is a really good phone
>>54640780
Why do you want a phone under five inches? There are options out there for you, but before I go into that I'm curious what the problem is.
Even if you have manlet hands there are great usability (read: disability) tweaks that will let you, for instance, scrunch the display or keyboard into a reachable position.
>>54640780
I have a Galaxy Core Prime. Still Android 4.4,but not a bad phone.
Interested?
I am
No. Fuck off.
hey /g/
why are u still not using this?
I can draw in krita on my seven year old HP 2730p. Why spend money on a gimped tablet?
I absolutely am
>>54640824
Oh yeah, just a reminder for everybody. You can buy the HP 2730p on eBay for ~$100. Great Linux support, everything works ootb on Debian.

My tower fan is as loud as a jet even on the lowest setting
I have that exact fan. I took it apart to clean it and ever since it has rattled. I put zip ties all around and put extra rubber pads on it. No dice.
Holy shit, I have a fan that looks exactly like that one but it has different branding on it. I had the exact same experience. It got loud as fuck, so I tore it apart and found a bunch of hair and shit in it. Then I put it back together and it got even louder.
