I bet Linus uses the nonfree Chrome out of spite
what's that got to do with anything? he uses chrome anyway, haven't you seen the wan show?

1/10 made me chuckle.
The one with pillars against control of one's life by software they can't control is Richard M. Stallman. The lead developer of Linux only developed that core software and open-sourced it with the General Public License for some little thing, not that he strictly believes anything against restrictive life-controlling devices.
When connecting my laptop to a vga monitor, would there be a difference in quaity between using a hdmi to vga adapter and a usb to vga adaptor? (Obviously my laptop doesn't have vga slot)
>>/sqt/
>>54304076
literally noone ever replies to my questions in the stupid questions thread. I asked this in the last one
>hdmi to vga adapter
fast but quality sucks (good for games)
>usb to vga adaptor
better quality but slow (bad for games)
I have no idea how to use /g/ but I need some help with this thing. It's a Tascam Portastudio 414. Everything works except for the fact the cassettes are sped up and distorted. Anybody able to fix this?
Is fast forward on
have you tried turning it off and on again ?
>>54303991
you can't play regular recorded tapes in that. it wasn't meant to be a prerecorded tape player.
Hey /g/, /k/ommando here.
I have a pretty plain Dell laptop running Windows 10 on an Intel i3 I got from Walmart a few months ago. I just ordered a 500 gig SSD and 16 gigs of RAM. Will this make my computer not shit? Also, is there anything else that I can do to upgrade this laptop? I actually haven't upgraded a computer before so I'm not sure what other lttle shit you can do to upgrade it, aside from maybe overclocking. It already has Bluetooth too, so that's out.
These are the specific parts.
>>54303650
upgrade your cpu (you potentially can)
upgrade your OS to gentoo
>>54303650
>falling for the 16GiB meme
Care to state a single purpose of having so much RAM?
SSD will make huge difference
RAM not so much unless you only have 2GB and constantly run out of RAM, but it's nice to have and won't hurt you
Other than that I don't think there's much you can do, but an SSD will usually give a huge performance improvement.
Maybe do a fresh install of Windows if you have a lot of crapware on it (usually the case with Walmart laptops). Make sure to get your Windows serial and a genuine Windows ISO, then there are thousands of noob-friendly tutorials on the internet to help you with that. Or you can go...

So I thought I'd try this Linux compatibility layer in Windows 10 redstone.
Oh, actually no - I can't since Windows Update takes a week or more to start delivering new builds if you change your settings from slow to fast ring.
What a fucking joke.
This proves that windows update CAN NOT be trusted to deliver security updates in a timely manner - there could be several WEEKS IF NOT MONTHS between when Microsoft releases a critical update and when your Windows 10 PC might eventually pick it up.
>>54303207
Releases are given different schedules based on their priority. Dont be an idiot.
>>54303207
>bugfixes and feature improvements are on the same channel
>>54303383
>>54303336
Once Microsoft publishes something it should be available right away.
If debian releases a new version of a package - as soon as it's available on the repo my client can grab it.
I don't have to wait for some arbitrary weeks on end for my client to pick it up.
I'm not implying MS should releases new builds faster, the builds are clearly on the servers - it's the windows update client that is failing.

they aren't those are onion proxies.

Does anyone here work at Amazon? I'm going to be starting as an engineer and wanted pro tips.
>inb4 neets
Its probably incredibly stressful and you will drop dead at 40
Have read that working at Amazon is not an enjoyable experience. Wasn't there a whole expose on this earlier in the year?
>>54302481
Yeah the Washington post article? I assumed that was mainly from the testimony of warehouse workers and weenie engineers though
Hey, guys. I need some computer help. Every time I unplug my laptop it dies, like really fast. What would cause that? I think the laptop in the picture is my model.
>>54302356
Sounds like it is time to find out what type of laptop you actually have.

>>54302356
Your battery is fucked, buy a new one off Amazon.
They're only good for a certain number of charge/discharge cycles.
these two speakers on craigslist for $10,000
microwalsh radiators for $850... overpriced
I got 4 sticks of 4GB RAM. My 3rd and 4th slot won't work. Meaning when I put RAM into those slots the computer screen goes black and my PC turns on for 20 seconds and turns off, and repeats itself.
I currently using slot 1 and 2. Tested out my RAM and it's fine. All 4 sticks work.
Speccy shows that my motherboard recognizes all 4 but shows 2 free and 2 available.
download the remaining 2
Had a similar issue with my Asus board, updated the uefi and fixed my problem. Try that

I haven't used a computer for 8 years, just installed Ubuntu 16.04, now what?
Turn it off, read a book, and go to bed.
remove it and install windows
>>54302154
Why install windows when I can play games on max settings?
>tfw no transparent electronics
>>54301944
I would care more about them if you could see the bolts of electricity driving around the information superhighway.
well it's just a shell. Find a transparent replacement shell. Doesn't look that good IMO
>>54301968
EL wire? Has to be driven by AC though, you'd need an additional layer over the PCB
