How do SSD owners handle the fact that $5 SD cards made in China are faster than their meme storage? Try and defend this SSD fags.

Even if this was true, using an SD card for any long term re-writable storage is just a terrible idea.

Just get an SD card slot, then.

It was last May that the BBC unveiled an ambitious plan to give a million schoolchildren a tiny device designed to inspire them to get coding. Now, after a few bumps in the road, the Micro Bits are finally ending up in the hands of children.
The tiny device can be plugged into a computer and programmed to do all sorts of cool stuff, and Year Seven pupils across the UK are being told it is theirs to take home.
Some, who have had early access to the Micro Bit, have come up with amazing projects - like the Yorkshire school that sent one up 32km (20 miles) on a balloon bringing back pictures of its journey to the fringes of space.
But, amid all the excitement from the young people getting a new toy, this is where the serious stuff starts. Big claims have been made for how this project can change the way children learn about and engage with technology. Now, it's up to teachers to make that happen.

Media captionRishworth School sent a Micro Bit into the stratosphere
I've been talking to two people with different perspectives on the Micro Bit. Steve Hodges is a Microsoft engineer who was closely involved in the design of the device and Drew Buddie is head of computing at a girls' school and chairman of NAACE, an educational technology association.
Steve told me that his whole career in computing had started as a result of the BBC Micro in the 1980s.
"I begged my parents to buy me one for home. I told them I would never ask for anything again if they bought me a BBC Micro!" he recalls.

Another case of old people thinking they understand current technology. 99.999% of these things will never be used. Most of the rest will be tinkered with for a few days and forgotten. Anyone who is really interested in becoming a software developer will already have found a way to get their own machine. This is just another case of the BBC trying to justify its existence. That they went with their own branded product instead of the Raspberry Pi or a compatible shows just how much the BBC wants this to a marketing win for them.

you should seriously require a license @ 21 years of age to own a computer since it's technically munitions and has a bunch of export bans

The thing that everyone seems to be missing is the ease of the programming language. I learned to program in BASIC when I was seven/eight around 2003. I was fortunate enough that my dad had an ancient DOS laptop in the basement, and just so happened to bring home an old course set from Intel about the learning computer or something. Because that machine had BASIC, I learned to love programming and the basics very quickly. People say that Python or C or Java or VB is easy to learn, but it's really not when compared to BASIC. You tend to get bogged down in syntax with other languages, whereas in BASIC you can hammer out code at the pace of a kid's attention span. There's 'languages' like Squeak or Scratch, but they're very limited and can get boring fast. Getting kids into programming doesn't require fancy hardware or blinking lights. It needs a modern version of BASIC.
And not VB either. You may as well just shoot the kid.

How long until we have graphics cards for the consumer market that can render stuff like this in real-time?

If you're asking me, this is only slightly more visually demanding than Black Desert Online (I don't play much vidya so that is my standard of comparison)

I can run BDO in 4K with my two 970s at around 40 FPS... so...

unless i'm missing something it's pretty damn close to being possible if not possible already
>>
Are you asking when consumer graphics cards will be able to render film quality CGI scenes in real time?
B

Because the answer is never you stupid kid.

why would you buy 2 970's? To be king of the poor people? Combine two cards and get the bus width that one should have?

Guys I need a hand

So I flashed this ROM onto my phone (http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s6/general/sprint-galaxy-s6-sprint-mm-6-0-odin-t3333530) and everything went fine from 5.1.1 to 6.0.1

but then i decided to root the phone

i dont know what i did wrong because the phone was rooted when i had 5.1.1, but every time I boot up, the phone goes to the 'android is starting screen' and keeps rebooting when it gets to 'optimizing app 30/30'

I really cant afford a new phone, and i acknowledge that i fucked up

If anyone could help me, it'd be greatly appreciated

Can you get back into recovery? If you can, review your options there. You might be able to revert this issue.

...and grow some fucking reading comprehension before you decide to flash another rom, probably forgot a bootstack or something.
>>
>>53626073
Haven't you already made thread?
Anyway it commonly believed that as long as phone boots at all you can recover. In your case you'll probably be advised to find stock ROM and flash it.

I thought this was interesting. Most people I know actually don't use Windows, so seeing a different sort of marketshare statistic made me feel less crazy.

Also please no shitting on Mac OS in this thread. They are our unix-like brethren.

It feels weird defending something I don't do myself.

Let me ask this, are you saying the OS is fine but the hardware isn't, or are you saying that while the OS is fine, no one decent uses it?

I can't seem to find the pic, but I think there's an infographic somewhere showing a bunch of well-known developers (like for C and BSD and such I think) using a Mac.
>>
My company (and many others that I'm aware of) give their devs Macbook Pros to work on (in addition to their normal workstation computer; not as a primary computer. for use outside of work, etc.).

It has all of the command line tools of unix, while still being less of a hassle in other ways. Why would a dev not want to use OSX over Linux or Windows?

There's not really much advantage to using Linux as a dev, while there's a lot of disadvantages.

I have an online textbook within a flash player wrapper, which I want to extract into pdf or word doc. The search functionality is shit. I've already paid £450 for the physical version, so I'm not willing to pay again for something I own already just so I can ctrl+f. Any idea how I can proceed lads?

What is the cost of the phone in it's current state?
What is the cost of repairing the screen?

Do these costs add up to less than the cost of a not broken phone? Is the profit worth the hassle?

http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/03/xiaomi-mi-5-review-its-hard-to-argue-with-305-for-a-snapdragon-820/

>The Mi 5 ships with "MIUI 7" running on top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but "MIUI 7" works on devices going back to Android 4.4 KitKat. It's a unified interface, so there's a "lowest common denominator" effect going on. MIUI 7 only really supports Android 4.4 features, because it has to run on Android 4.4 devices. This means you'll usually get all the under-the-hood features from Android 6.0, but MIUI 7 removes interface improvements from Android 6.0 and Android 5.0 Lollipop.

>It's crazy to see a company throw away mostly "free" features like this. MIUI is old, dated, and easily the worst part of the Mi 5.

>The Ugly
>MIUI's stagnant interface has made it a feature-killing disaster on Marshmallow.

/v/ here.
I'm a drawfag and big fan of 2D fighting games.
my dream is to make my own.

I wanna use the 2D fighter maker engine that many doujin fighters use.

But I want to decompile some of those games character files like Vanguard princess and SCWU to learn how they used and coded the engine to make such wonderfull games.

I don't want to simply hack the files to steal assets or some shit, I want simply to open the character files in the editor and study how they made them.

So, I want to ask the elite hackers of /g/ to tell me if it's possible to decompile them in some way.

I'm sure it's possible because the mlp fighter was hacked and some shit was added by fans.

I'm sure it must not be hard to hack because it's simply a checkbutton that forbids the character file to be imported in the editor.
