I'm a bit slow in the head so I'm finally deciding to move away from Dropbox and I have heard some good about Syncthing.
But is it /g/ approved? I have heard it encrypts files before uploading and it is secure, but I don't see any option for making your own keys or anything. I just see a device ID for example when I am looking at the Android app. Could someone not just bruteforce all the possible device IDs and take my files?
If Syncthing sucks, what's a good alternative? I have also seen ownCloud but that doesn't appeal as much to me --...

TL;DR: if someone gets access to my device ID, can they begin to get access to my files? Or is there some 2factor part to it, as in I need to verify any new client?

Syncthing is just a transfer protocol, if you want disk or file encryption you need to set that up separately.
I use btsync for files and backups. All of /sdcard/ gets backed to my computer. Setting up the Android version the way I want kinda sucks because they've aggressively dumbed it down. Then I have another folder synced with work. Still haven't started backing up shit up to the file server I have with my friends, just been too lazy to set up the sym links.
How viable is this as a basic computer?
And other single board computers in general.
Or are they just a DIY media player?
>>53358326
Can you do most of your work in terminals and text editors? If so, than it's fine
With an Odroid-C2 looks perfectly possible because 2GB RAM

>How viable is this as a basic computer?
Good enough for media playback, browsing, text editing and basic image editing I guess. The one thing the normies I chat with always want that would be a problem is Skype, but I hear Skype has a beta web app now.
>Or are they just a DIY media player?
They're also great as home ftp/vpn/http/mail servers
Be aware that the C2 doesn't come with ANY storage by default though.

First and last time I install this piece of crap.
What media player does /g/ use?
mpv
MPC-HC.

I'd rather not download my software from a URL that reeks of 4chan..
>>53357986
Well, it can play a CD, so there's that I guess.
Any other protips? I recall trying Miro and liking it but bailing because it kept eating RAM and crashing itself out. Anyone used it recently?

I was thinking to myself. If ISP's start giving you ads while browsing, a simple adblock would take care of it right?
But what if they wise up and straight up inject the ads into your packets to trick your browser into thinking they're from the IP you requested.
What the fuck would you do then?!

Hey guys I have a strong presumption that my wife of 8 years is cheating. I have found a huge fucking pile of dirty underwear that I have never seen in my life. She's out with the "girls" on a weeknight and coming home very very early morning and hops into bed with me and has three hours sleep and goes to work 2 hrs later. I observed her the other day spraying perfume when she got out of a car the other Monday morning at 3am that I haven't seen. I'm not going to directly ask her because it won't get me nowhere and I have three kids with her. She...

Being so far behind, will Linux ever catch up to Windows?
Linux wasn't released until 1990...

Everything old is new. More and more Windows admin work is done through powershell.
Server 2016 nano won't even have anything more than the most basic of text consoles, much like VMWare ESXi. It will all be managed via PS remote sessions.

Need help to make code in C that prints out this shape. The size is dependant to a variable at the beggining (scanf("%d",var))
Only needs to work for values that are multiples of 3.

Store short macros/shortcuts and have it persist across computers/operating systems
I can use my bootleg chinese mouse for linux with shortcuts and all despite the software being for windows xp
I thought it was a meme, but after going back to Windows 7, I am convinced it is much, much better than Windows 10.
Windows 7 is cohesive. The start menu is unbloated and the search functionality is just what it should be.
Every "benefit" Microsoft lists from upgrading is actually bad.

maintaining old versions of windows is a gateway drug to installing linux
I didn't like vista, so I stayed on XP for a while and then one day.. poof - I had a debian partition just like that

Why Linux Kernel was written in C instead of C++, /g/?
>>53356473
You can only write microkernels in C++
http://harmful.cat-v.org/software/c++/linus
Consult your local search engine next time
C++ didn't even exist when Linux was developed, it was just a superset of C that compiled to normal C using cfront
