What are you holiday upgrade stories, /g/? How have you brought joy to your families by helping them to upgrade to Windows 10?
>>51926423
I helped myself by getting rid of my piece of shit computer running Windows 10 and getting a Macbook.
>>51926436
And just put in an offer of $80 for this.
Hey/g/ I need some help,
So I got hired by a company to do some contract work as a " computer technician"
All they want me to do is
1 Format Hard Drive
2 Install Windows 7 professional
3 Install Microsoft Office Package 2012
4 Install Free AVG Virus Software
Simple stuff I know how to do, but my question is, how much should I charge them? They want me to do this to 6 laptops. They told me to name my price, I dont wanna come off as stingy, but I also don't wanna get underpaid
Also I wouldn't have to waste money on anything...

Charge by time
>>51925836
How much per hour?
>>51925817
Hold the fuck up, OP. This sound suspiciously similar to emails I used to get back when I advertised for computer repair services on craigslist. Whenever I would respond to them, I would get a message back saying they would send the laptops to me, and I would have to send them back, and they asked for my credit card info or some shit. It was an obvious scam, since I was sent essentially the same message three times from three different people.
pushbullet was literally the BEST app and then they decided to go full jew... are there any similar apps that aren't garbage?
Nope
What happend? Still works fine/the same for me.

many features locked behind a $40 per year subscription model now, including previously free features
I just downloaded speccy, is it broken? It says my cpu temp is 60-70C and it says I have .8 ghz ram but it's 2.4ghz
Only literal morons use Speccy to find out what hardware they have.
>>51925090
Oh, ok thanks. Do you know a good app that check cpu temp for gaymd

Gotta choose between the
Xperia C5 Ultra
Nexus 6P
LG G4
Nexus 5x
Sony Experia aqua.
I....Iphone 5c
By tomorrow
The C5 looks very tempting but it looks fucking huge.
I can't decide.
>>51924749
I have the G4.
I like it.
Depends on what you're into.
>>51924749
Honestly you should try the Nokia N9, you can get one of them for pretty cheap
It's a full GNU/Linux mobile phone that runs everything, has revolutionary UX that no phone today has matched and DOES NOT LAG unlike all options you've listed but the iPhone
It's design is also top notch, symmetrical in all axis and uses a combo of AMOLED + Clearblack that only other phone that uses it is Lumia 950, the whole OS is designed that you can't even distinguish where the screen starts and ends
6p or 5x if you want android and can handle the slighter complexity over iphone. IPhone if you want just werks with not much options.
Windows will never look this good.
You will never be as productive as a windows user.

Is that xfce?
What theme and icons?
Hey /g/.
I'm looking to build my own laptop pretty soon - I've set aside a decent amount of cash (2000 bucks or so) for this, as my current rig has needed a serious upgrade for some time. I use my computer primarily for work and travel a lot, so an actual desktop computer isn't really an option for me. Problem is, although I'm really interested in the idea of building my own laptop, I don't know where to start, or even how possible it is. I've got a lot of tools and the money, I just don't know what parts to get or how to go about this.

Why would you build a laptop?
It'd probably be easier to buy a new thinkpad.
The InstallGentoo wiki also has a few articles on laptops.
>>51923736
>>51923744
I'd also like to hear any sort of recommendations you have as far as straight-up buying goes, but while I have to have this be a laptop for ease of transportation, I'd also like it to be the highest quality I can guarantee (and the ability to choose my own parts in building seems like the best plan as far as that goes). Am I wrong in thinking that? Also, checking around the wiki now.
Hypothetical question. A cute girl comes over to your house to watch Netflix. How do you explain to her that you dont have Netflix because its a botnet?
>>51923120
>not having a girl around for dvd-decrypted-with-libdvdcss and chill
I bet you'll drink CocaCola together as well.
if i had to explain myself then she's not for me

Because I use Kodi + Genesis
What's up /g/uys, I'm new to the Linux scene and I'm trying to make my Ubuntu install look half decent. What's a good theme to install and how do I do it?
Also, desktop tread.

When will this widescreen meme end and we go back to 4:3 screens?
When will this x86 meme end and we go back to ARM processors?
>>51922274
x86 is already dead m8, you're late by over a decade.

I kinda want to buy one as my main monitor. Why the hate?
I just received this in my mail today. I was not expecting any packages, especially from what I'm racistly assuming is China. It's about the size of a credit card and feels as heavy as a battery, but maybe not so big.
My instinct is to call the FBI after I post about it on /g/
open it up!
>>51921586
You got it, chief.
It contained a small bar of gold.
>>51921607
pretty sure that is a lighter, try clicking the top in.
guys, what's your favorite way to browse 4chan?

What is it that makes C so timeless?
It's been 40 years, countless languages have come and gone, and yet everything important is still being written in C.
The language never grew, but it also never decayed and grew bloated like modern languages did.
With the sorry state of modern languages like Rust, do you think people will still be writing C and reading K&R some 40 years from now?
C comes from Basic which is a programming language created by einstein and isaac Asimov
>>51925649
>yet everything important is still being written in C.
false, unless you have an incredibly biased definition of important
>>51925693
Your cushy managed memory scripting languages and their interpreters are all implemented in C/C++, including your web browser.
Well /v/ was somewhat hostile with my thread here >>>/v/320578948 so I try my luck here instead.
I want to build my 11 year old nephew a gaming PC, even though he hinted that he wanted a PS4 for Christmas.
What does /g/ think of this build;
- SilverStone Raven RVZ02B mini-ITX
- Intel i7 3770K
- Noctua NH-L9i
- G.Skill Trident-X 16GB DDR3 2400MHz
- EVGA GTX 780 Ti ACX 3GB GDDR5
- Samsung 840 Pro 120GB SSD
- Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB HDD
- SilverStone SX600-G Gold Plus 600W PSU

If hes wants a PS4, its gonna be best to get him a PS4 to be honest.
All of his friends are going to be on PS4, he can share games with friends who have PS4's, he knows what he wants.

/g/ isn't your tech hotline
A big part of gaming for 90 percent of people is being able to play with friends and talk to each other while playing. No one but autists care that much about graphics to not be able to play with friends, especially an 11 year old. Get him a PS4.
