Hey guys,

looking to discuss ideas and things that can be done to bring this idle temp down. Bought my rig in mid november, got a MSI R9 390 Twin Frozr which was recommended to me by a bunch of people. This thing idles at 63*C on web browsing. I try to set up custom fan curves and it doesn't, Afterburner says it is running at 16% fan power. This is horseshit. What do you guys do it fix it?

My temps went down when I bought a Sapphire 390 op.
>>
Don't know what to tell you OP.

My MSI 390x idles at 28c, hovers in the low 30s when browsing the internet or watching video, and that's with the fan at 10-20%.

It hasn't even broke 60c under load.

Only sapphire has good cards for AMD. Everyone else just takes their Nvidia design and put it 1:1 on an AMD card. Obviously not a good idea

Tracking Details

Google Chrome's user tracking capabilities include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:

Installation. Upon installation, Google Chrome sends a randomly generated token from the installer back to Google. This is used to measure the success rate of Chrome installations. This feature is non-optional.
RLZ Identifier. An encoded string that, according to Google, contains non-identifying bits of information about where Chrome was downloaded from and when it was installed. It is transmitted to Google upon the first launch, first use of the address bar, and first Google search query. The collected information is used to measure the success of promotional campaigns. This feature is non-optional, but Google does provide the necessary source code to decode the string.
ClientID. A unique identifier coupled with user preferences, logs of usages metrics, and crashes. This feature is optional and disabled by default.
OmniBox Predictions. Any text typed into the address bar is sent to Google. This feature is optional, but enabled by default.
Page-Not-Found Web Service. Upon receiving a server not found response, the query typed into the address bar is sent to Google. This feature is optional, but enabled by default.
Spell-Checking Web Service. Any text typed is transmitted to Google. This feature is optional and disabled by default.
Google Update. Data concerning the user's Chrome usage, operating system details, and Chrome version is transmitted to Google periodically. This feature is non-optional.

Why don't I have any problem or malware issues on Windows XP?
I know too many people with bloatware, rootkits, viruses or weird background stuff.
They reinstall Windows every year.
This is 1 2008 install, SP3 and everything. Why does it works so well? Is that because people still open random .exe or any executable file?

Disregard your opinions or Microsoft's fear-mongering about not being supported will cause the world to crumble, I still like it. do back-ups occasionally just in case.

Is it just me or are there others who prefer to stick with an "outdated" Os that just works smoothly instead of getting a >tactile botnet like OSX/Win10?

Sure, lots of people.
But they usually don't post on /g/, because they have work to do and just use their computers as tools.
/g/ and similar places online are for people who want to experiment with software, because they're bored.
Oh and shills (especially from MS).
So take everything here with grain of salt.

yeah well i think i'm on this case. if ever there was something my router or NAT could not stop, i'd just browse the net on my other Debian laptop and keep this thing offline, but i highly doubt it's possible to be affected.

so I'm about to buy into the /g/ meme and install xubuntu on my laptop

1) what are the odds of getting all the drivers working and being able to run my computer like on windows? i.e. no crashes, forced 480x640 resolutions, trackpad not working etc

(I have an anus tp300la)

2) how often will I have to reinstall the OS?

3) are my privacy gains going to materialise? is xubuntu a goy distro?

if the computer is less than 5 years old, you're probably fine, at least on Ubuntu. If something doesn't work its probably under the additional drivers menu.
>>
>>52016233
already did and it seemed fine

I've heard battery management is an issue. is that still the case in the newer kernels?

I'm a technology illiterate shit but I need your help and sorry if I fuck up the terminology

I have an old laptop that was my brothers(he died) it's been fucked up since a Windows update gone bad so I had been running ubuntu live off when I use it because no Windows update disk

Since getting a smartphone I haven't used the laptop, I just like knowing it's here. but yesterday I received a DVD box set to a series that I had forgotten I loved and can only watch them on the laptop

I can access the hard drive and all files, I have 2 ubuntu iso saved. Lubuntu 14.04 and ubuntu 14.04, also ubuntu 11*.
Neither recognises the wireless broadcom driver (11 did but the one I saved was faulty) and I have no Ethernet connection or friend I can go to to get the latest distro or download the appropriate drivers. Without networking I can't download the appropriate drivers to watch the DVDs

I have 2 usb drives and blank dads at my disposal. I've tried copying the same iso I'm running into the home folder and then
sudo mkdir /media/cdrom

CD ~
sudo mount -o loop ubuntu* /media/cdrom

Then in additional software I ticked all boxes but proprietary drivers and ticked broadcom driver in the additional drivers tab. When I hit apply changes it starts to then freezes.

I have two days off from work and kind of really just want to kick it and watch this show. Can you guys offer any ideas on how to fix this? Or should I just go out and buy a DVD player

you could take your laptop somewhere with wired internet or use your smartphone on some public wifi (if you have low data) to download a windows iso on your phone, then transfer iso to laptop and make bootable flashdrive
you could also potentially tether your phone to your laptop over usb
getting an iso should be easy enough on an android phone, if you have an iphone then ios <=9.0.2 is jailbreakable
>>
Ubuntu is notorious for fucking up Broadcom wireless. You can get them to work but it will require some fixing.

Thanks. I'll try to download the iso onto my phone first. Seems like the easiest. How does the latest distro do with broadcom drivers?

So Ive decided I want to abandon Windows and move over to linux. Only problem is that Ive never used Linux in my life. I have some questions.

1. Is it as hard to learn to use linux as everyone says?
2.Whats the most user friendly Linux os that can provide a jumping off point?
3.How hard will it be to get mah steam gamez working? I understand that some like tf2 will run already but most wont.
4.Are there drivers avaliable for all rigs?

Thanks

Manjaro or Ubuntu depending if you want to learn Arch or Debiam based distros
>3
Depends on the games some have Play on Linux compatibility that is basicly a program that runs scripts and setups wine and everything for you other then that you will have to learn how to use wine.
>4
Yes and no. There are quite a few proprietary drivers that fuck up but you should be mostly fine so long as you don't use some obscure laptop from 2009.
>>
>>52016071
Can you explain the difference between Arch and Debiam?

Also I use a desktop I ordered custom about 7 months ago so its fairly up to date

You should have no problem.
It's mostly just how they compile their programs and stuff and the package manager.

Also let me correct myself I ment to say Debian.

Honestly your better off using Manjaro and it's not going to be straightforward but it will easier to use after you get over the learning curve.

hey guys

i know there are some wizards here with the necessary knowlage to help me.

what i'm looking for is a software or a script of what ever to find me statistic about specific words/phrases usage during a specific period of time and a specific country on twitter.

example:

i want to know how many time the phrase "i'm a faggot" has been used from 12/1/2015 to 12/23/2015 in the US on twitter

TL;DR how can i know the number of tweets with certain key words/phrase during a specific period of time ?

thank you

Write a bot that polls twitter ever now and then, processing all that is gonna be difficult tho

This was anwered last time you asked... I don't want to look up all the tools so this time just do it yourself and use the twitter API and your own code.
