Both have their advantages. Both are lightweight, minimal systems. If you spend your time customizing source, Gentoo is more friendly. If you would prefer binaries in most cases, Arch.

-Browse desktop threads and read screenfetch info!
-Ask all questions about rice in this thread
-GNOME3 cannot have custom WMs or Display Managers

So guys, do you think there's any rice potential in KDE?

Wat? This makes no sense.

In what way can you not use say lightdm to log into GNOME? Like.. are you on meth?

Also GNOME can be "riced" if you know what the fuck you are doing.

I swear half the people on /g/ are retarded.

Hey senpai how do you like my new phone ;)

Sup, /g/.

I'm a sysadmin and I have been in charge of managing a few software projects for the past few months.

My routine is like this, in the morning I talk to the developers , see which task they're going to work on during the day and which task they finished the day before, after that I update each project's post-its and start working on the project status report that I present weekly to my boss and customers.
We've been finishing about 1 sprint every 3 weeks, at the end of every sprint we have a test and a development version, which I forward directly to our customers, gather their feedback and then start creating the next sprint based on their feedback.

Is there any better way to do this? I feel like that this method just isn't working out.
I don't even know if I'm the best person suited for this since I'm not a developer

... why is a sysadmin acting as a project manager?

if i was working at a company that did this i'd start interviewing at other places. skillsets don't necessarily transfer to literally any job in the company.
>>
>>52248473
QA here dude

We test stories as they are completed by dev, but before the end of sprint, that way when we ship at the end of sprint we know with some confidence that there is a assurance of quality.

At the begining of each sprint we estimate how long each story will take, and whether it will fit into the current sprint. If it is too big to fit into the sprint (dev+test) we break it into smaller 'chunks'/stories.

Any stories that do not fit into the sprint dont get released

Let me know if you want specifics

>... why is a sysadmin acting as a project manager?

I've been in this company for a few years now, automated everything there is to automate and have literally everything under control, so my workload is very little, I can finish my sysadmin tasks in less than an hour, so I have lots of "free time", my bosses noticed this and that I'm very organized with documentation and that unlike most programmers I can actually speak with other humans, so they decided to try it out putting me in a manager position

Come on guys share your magic. What do you use and why?

hey /g/ Is it worth upgrading from an Athlon 5350 to a 7870k?
I already have a r7 250
The only game I cant play is dark souls

>>
since you already have a dedicated card, get a core i3 or g3258 + intel h81 board, it's cheaper
>>
Don't listen to >>52248709 and get the 7870K.
You can crossfire the R7 250 with the internal GPU for even better graphics power.

I think i'll wait for the 7890k to come out, I have no issues with intel, but I like to live in my fantasy world where they are Evil space jews

How about working like a normal person, in a well lit room? In the EU it is even law, that offices have to have a certain lighting.

So, I work in a custom builds / repair etc shop. We mostly deal with businesses normally, but today this kid (12-14) and his dad come in. I'm handed this part list. Pulled up in a benz so I give the guy the benefit of the doubt and tell him this is a $20,000 machine he's asking for. For his kid.

I ask why he needs this, as it's absurdly excessive and will no doubt be a nightmare for trouble shooting. Why? He saw on the internet he could set up what I imagine is a bunch of VMs to have multiple people using one tower at once.

Why the fuck would you even WANT to do this? Where the hell did he get this idea from. They're pretty dead set on it. Might be interesting to work on but what in the actual fuck? If they expect me to wizard together the VM setup too they're going to be paying a few thousand more on top of that 20k.

I'm tempted but holy fuck this is going to be annoying. The only place I can get a PSU that'll do this job is importing it from SE Asia. The case I'm looking around for, as this is going to need a couple big rads to cool 6 blocks.

Issue here is, I could just build the guy two systems, or shit three. However many he wants, for a fraction of the cost and as much profit on my side of the table.

And they wonder why kids are so spoiled these days.

He probably got the idea from LinusTechTips, he made a machine with approximately the same specs for "7 Gamers 1 CPU"

>he fell for the "you need an unlocked OC'd i5 with aftermarket cooler to run AAA games" meme
Guess what anon: Barring some very rare exceptions, games are still GPU limited at the resolutions and sync targets that 99% of people actually play at. And they are going to stay that way.

Now stop suggesting a 4690k in every build thread.

Maybe you missed my point anon. If you uncap, turn down all the settings, and use a godly GPU to ensure CPU bound performance- you will see a big difference between different CPU performance classes. This is what benchmarks show you.

But 99% of people have a 60hz monitor and play at 1080p or 1440p. They are completely GPU bound.

With a 60hz monitor, there's no difference between 60hz and 420hz. You can't tell the difference (unless you allow tearing or other godawful shit, or the game is godawfully coded to read input synchronously with render, and usually not even then). You vsync to your ~60hz monitor and that's it. Most of the power of your i9-9999KX is completely wasted

Why is every voice assistant so shit?
I can feel that they are the future, I've tried them all, yet none of them is remotely close to being good.

They work pretty well. Cortana is great desu. Voice recognition and features are missing though.

You tell me that cortana can sing premade songs for me but you say it like it can do so much more than that. Cortana can't even shut down my PC for me. I'd love to say cortana put the computer to sleep in 45 minutes. Cortana open up dying light for me. Cortana Skype call Jeremy please.

You get the picture. They need to have a linguist go in and teach the developers how people talk and want to interact with cortana.
