Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).
----
If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™
Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", lightweight
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.

T60 is aesthetic as fuck
I'm looking for a computer that I can put inside my bag, do photo editing and travel with. if I can fit a second disk drive that'd be perfect. I know everyone recommends the t420 but saw the t520 was posted in the last thread. with the quad core and nvidia graphics card it looks like the better buy but isn't a quad core laptop prone to overheating?
link: http://m.ebay.com/itm/231939025791?_mwBanner=1
How are the temperatures on the x220?
How would you rate these three logos?

Tux is the best because it appeals to small children and adults with developmental issues thanks to its friendly cartoon feel, which is excellent news since that is exactly the demographics likely to use it.
>windows
Plain and boring. 2/10
>os x
Really just an X but still manages to look more interesting than the Windows logo thanks to the colors. 6/10
>linux
Pure autism. Is this the logo of an operating system or a game for kids? 0/10

You should always buy the biggest ram modules for its generation regardless of what everyone says. i.e. 2gb sticks for DDR2, 8GB sticks for DDR3, and 16GB sticks for DDR4.
That is how that is
I have since added another graphics card and several monitors.
>>54474923
Anon, why do you need all of these monitors?
Also cable management.
My friends, there are less than 3 months before Windows 10 free upgrade now cost $130. Please read this whole post carefully. I urge all of you to upgrade as soon as possible. There's nothing wrong with taking the upgrade. Also, you don't actually have it use it if you are still dumb enough to be scared of the nonexistent bogeyman spying. Microsoft only wants you to try it. You can upgrade to Windows 10 and instantly downgrade to Windows 7 or 8. That way, you now get a Windows 10 license for FREE while still using whatever os you were comfortable with before. If you ever decide to sell your computer you can use the free license to upgrade to Windows 10 and advertise it as such. Windows 10 is much better and more desired by buyers than an ancient outdated system running Windows 7 or 8. Windows 10 is also supported for life. Hurry up and get your free upgrade to Windows 10 before you end up spending $130 for it in July.

are virtual reality goggles really the next wave of gaming, or is this gimicky bullshit like 3d tvs?
>>54471708
Next niche wave. They're cool, innovative, and provide a new ecosystem.
But the amount of people willing to pay a premium to look like a retard with a box on his head.... (sure they'll make it better over time)
>>54471708
if it works, VR/AR will be the next wave of a lot of tech
I'd put more money on AR being useful though
>>54471708
Too early to tell. Sales figures over the next year will tell some of the story. The fact that some pretty big companies are involved in their manufacture is telling enough though that they may be around for long enough to catch on if things do in fact get off to a slow start.

how can a yurofag (with money) study in US of A?
>>54471260
Don't. You will become broke. Why the fuck do you wanna study in USA and get in denbt when you can study for free in Europe? My friend made that mistake and ran back after 2 years
>>54471260
Apply to anything you desire. If you have the grades you're more likely to get in than someone in the country or even in state, because you're raking in more money for them coming from a different country.

my question from the other thread:
anybody on a linux desktop while doing front end webdev?
What works, what is better in other OS?
>>54462513
I'm on windows 7 using an Ubuntu VM through Vagrant. Distro doesn't matter too much as long as you can make the software work. Just be aware that Node is NodeJS on apt due to a namespace issue. It's simple to fix, but it's a pain in the ass if you don't know about it. OSX os also fine and you'll fit in better at starbucks.
>use mac os x

your GPU is done for. I'm guessing you have an nvidia chip that was recalled. if you take it to the apple store they should replace it for free.

Asking "Hey guys, what's your opinion on x?" is frowned upon.
Wireless is frowned upon.
Headset requests are frowned upon.
Isolation ≠ Noise cancellation
If you dislike a headphone suggestion, try giving a better suggestion to whomever asked instead of going "hurr, brand x sucks"

I'm re-posting this because I posted it at the very end of the last thread
>The right side of my 702's just fucking died 30 mins after I declared that they would be my end game headphones with my current EQ setting etc etc.
>I've spray painted the center circle black and I don't have the outer sleeve to the box so I can't even send them back. I wanted these fuckers for ten years but I can't force myself to buy another pair after this shit.
>Every other headphone feels uncomfortable compared to these so I'm thinking about buying a different, more expensive pair of akg's right now from amazon (and not chinese made)
>Any recommendations?
I'm now thinking the akg k712pro which costs £180 on ebay, can anyone tell me if all 712pros are made in Austria?
