Did it seriously cost $15k? You could have used something like global knowledge for a lot less, and I wouldn't use global knowledge if my employer wasn't paying. Should be $2-3k for a one week crash course.

same thing with most oracle courses i took, with the exception of one. it really depends on the instructor you get. glad i didn't have to pay for those shit courses though.

I'm looking to buy a new (non-iPod) MP3 player, but man.... seems these are dying out? I'm not seeing many reputable brands of MP3 players out there, and I'm skeptical (since off-brands used to die on me out of nowhere all the time).

Anyone have any recommendations for good MP3 players? Can be MP4, whatever - as long as I can hook it up to my PC, transfer music hassle/program-free, and it handles the music files fine, I'll take suggestions!!

Why non ipod? I bought a used 5.5 gen and is a bliss with rockbox.
>>
If you're American I'd reccomend buying one of those $10-$20 prepaid Android phones from LG or Motorola or something.. or even a Windows Phone. You don't have to buy them with any minutes and they make excellent MP3 players and honestly these cheap Qualcomm SoC DACs are actually pretty good compared to your run of the mill MP3 player.

Serious question /g/

What do you guys do for fun on the computer?
I don't really game anymore, since games now in days are no fun.
YouTube is getting kinda stale.

I need something fun to do on the computer.
Any recommendations?

I think it's time to put the High end desktop, low end laptop combo meme to an end.

I am a college student who ended up falling for this and it was one of the worst mistakes I had made.

First I am going to describe my laptop and desktop, reminder that this was in 2013 when the 290x first came out.

Desktop:
AMD FX 8350 @ 4.8GHz
16Gb RAM
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 Revision 4
HIS R9-290X Reference
ATI Radeon 5770 (For mining)
Corsair CX 750M
840 Evo boot drive 120Gb
2 1Tb (random drives I had) Caviar Blues
TV Tuner (dont remember what kind)
144Hz Monitor
Corsair 600T White edition

Laptop:
Toshiba Satelitte
AMD A8 APU
840 EVO 250Gb
6GB RAM
1366x768 15" screen

These two units cost me around $1700

So on to the problems I ended up with. I lived in a dorm that was shared, and my desktop was too big to fit under the desk, so I had to put it on the side. It was extremely loud (290x reference cooler) and got extremely dusty. I was more satisfied with my laptop. It was really fast, but the screen was awful. It was also pretty thick and ugly. Every break or in between semesters I had to move that giant ass desktop around, it was hell going up and down steps with it.

Fast forward and I ended up selling both machines for tuition, a little later I bought a Lenovo Y50 with the 4k screen off Newegg for $650 refurbished, it had the following specs:
Intel Core i7 4710HQ @ 2.5GHz (3.2GHz turbo)
16GB RAM
Nvidia GTX 860M (This is the Maxwell variant, so it had 4Gb of VRAM and was identical to a desktop 750Ti)
3840x2160 IPS screen
512GB Corsair BX150 (got for $100 on a sale)

I can say this laptop has been a million times more useful to me. It is thinner and can play all the games I want to at 4k.

2-in-1 laptops. Are they actually useful or are they trash? Thinking about getting a Lenovo 900 or MS surface. Intended use would be web browsing/ebook reading and movie watching in tablet mode, and word processing and some programming in laptop mode. Am I better off with two computers? I don't want a desktop I like taking my laptop to coffees shops are parks with wifi

They're no more trash than are normal laptops. That said, the answer to your question is yes, they are trash. Planned obsolescence, shitty ergonomics, defects, gimped CPUs and GPUs...

I'd never pay more than $200 for a laptop as things stand today.

Alright /g/nets let's have some fun. I was recently applying for jobs and came across one that required a 2000 word essay on why I was a good candidate for the job. Fuck that.
So instead of me writing I'm going to let you write it. You each get 10 words. Make me proud.
Pic is my cat for motivation.

First paragraph and first sentence of second paragraph should be properly written as dignifies both human reader and writer; remainder should be auto generated buzzwords interspersed with random prepositions and determiners as dignifies both inevitable automatic reader and therefore writer

So I bought my first GPU 3 years ago with the GTX 660ti, and I'm gonna be getting a GTX 1070. I've heard people talk about how it's good to wait for the third party versions of the cards, but I'm kind of eager to upgrade.

Which of you guys are buying immediately or waiting, and what benefits could be yielded from waiting for 3rd party versions of the new cards? Them already being overclocked and having paste? Also, how long after official release do the third party versions of the cards come out?

I'm interested. 970 frame timings are pissing me off.

I'd consider AMD but they never release products when i'm looking to upgrade.

ITT: Convincing but ridiculous technobabble

For inspiration:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=rLDgQg6bq7o

Went to Fry's today to see if they had any new flux gauges in but all they had was metric. Decided to buy a couple zinc-plated bolex cables to improve my throughput on my capulation box. So far the reduced signal noise is great and it no longer has cross-interference with my digital waggle towers.

Decided to replace my VRAM today hoping it would fix the problems I was having with an intake plenum leak causing orthicon halos on the red channel only. So I clamped the card in my Panavise, applied spout oil and fired up my Klapotke hot air rework station at -6 semitones with a Shakuhachi nozzle. Electrosluch was applied around the edges of the original module to soften the planispheres. After the fourth chip, I became distracted while heating and missed the trilithion transition point of the solder (the color is supposed to be cerise but by the time I caught it it was already up into the Il Balletto Di Bronzo range). Having no ring modulation on my PO-28 to spider the voulge, I refluxed that chip instead and waited for it to cool to about the temperature of scrofula. That warped the RF cavity resonance, so I was going to have to machine down an 18650 to reduce the parasitic quilez and surmount all of this back into the casing. So I mounted the card on my lathe with a four-jaw velocipedestrienne and used a DeKuypers reamer to etch away the oxidized Spotsylvania from the surface of the IGBT . I then used platinum bonding wires to reconnect the HF section of the glinkie decoder to the wurzel vanes. (If you end up in this situation, I would suggest trying the rose garden strategy instead.)
Turns out after all that the Signetics 25000 Series 9C46XN that I used is running in write only memory mode because it could not prove quad patterning colorability. Now my computer is only functioning as a Butlerian Typewriter and my CPU has collapsed into a smoking hairy golf ball singularity with notes of oak and horse blanket. Big mistake with sunspots the way they are, and I refuse to use the non-free cancerware solution posted on the VX wiki by Giant Hairy Nevus. So let this be a lesson not to do what I did.

>ebolex

You know, you should realize the Signetics 25000 Series 9C46XN is similarly non-free cancerware right? Signetics refuses to leverage synergies with the GNU/NT kernel, which causes problems when you need to turbulate the ROM under that environment.

If I remember correctly, a good alternative would be the OpticsTron 4450-C782-NX, which came out Q3 last year. If you needed to run bleeding edge firmware, it might not be good for you, but I think it leverages synergies quite well and is able to shift paradigms quite quickly when you need to read your write-only memory.

That said, I currently run both models of those LAN-over-Ethernet switchovers. Guess which one is the cancerous shitbox?
