well I do reverse engineering and programming. that being said, alot of reverse engineering tools that are awesome(ida, ollydbg, etc)aren't available on linux.

I mainly use my PC for programming, college work, music, casual gaming (CS:GO, DOTA2, LoL) and obviously internet.

You should be. A chrome laptop is just an androis tablet with a permanent keyboard. Never worth it. Get a used chinkpad else build a custom desktop.

Mint is already built on the distro with the most options without being DIY. If you wanted that kind of thing try out Arch in a VM.
