I'm trying to stick VMware 1.0.2 on an old Win2k box for historical and semi-practical purposes, however it won't run without a license which is supposed to be stored in the registry. I tracked down where it's supposed to be stored (yeah, it's pretty obvious) but I'm not sure what kind of data was actually in the license keys so I can properly make my own.

Anyone here work with 1.x/2.x in the early 2000s, or have an old box laying around with a working install on it that could give me some insight? Or whether or not there's anything else I can do short of disassembling the executable and flailing around like a retard until I find something of interest, if I do at all?

Thanks for reading my blog.

you can probably find an old-timey serial for this old-timey software on an old-timey warez/codes site
(anyone remember astalavista?)
>>
>>54629011
I've thought of FTP surfing for a key but I'm not sure what they named them.

Good idea with old warez sites though, I kind of discounted it since Google will give you everything else VMware ever shipped with a 1.x or 2.x version number no matter how much you refine your search, never really had to search for something this hard before.

Took your suggestion and dug up an ancient keygen for 1.0.1, might have to mess with it a little to get it to generate licenses valid with a current date though.

It works now if I set my date back, gives me an unrelated error however, I'll figure it out eventually.

Thanks though, maybe now I can test drive Red Hat 6 without wiping the OEM 2K image off of this system.

I've had the same bamboo fun tablet for seven years now and I really want to upgrade to a better one. What kind of drawing tablets would you recommend?

Honestly, tablet PC with digitizer.
The ability to see what you're drawing, where you're drawing, is pretty amazing.

I need a cheap, decent tablet to draw with, and work for osu, any suggestions?

Monoprice comes to mind.

I think the new Intuos are also on sale on Massdrop so there's always that.

Hey /g/uys and /g/irls! I've been wondering... Where do hackers buy things like exploit kits and malware? I've been reading many articles on exploits/malware being sold on darknet forums but I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find these mythical secret forums that security researchers love to talk about. I mean, there's the shitty places like hackforums, hell, 0day etc etc but nobody really sells anything on those sites and they're all full of malware infected with malware. The darknet markets are equally shitty. So, my question is: Do hackers really have underground secret markets or is the whole concept just an over hyped jewish antivirus company scare tactic to trick us into buying bloated software? Can I go on a darknet forum and buy me an exploit kit or is it all a marketing scam dreamed up by John McAfee?

Can I get some help?

I built a PC a couple months ago and everything was going fine. Fast forward to yesterday when I came home from work and decided to jump on the computer.

It was hibernating so I moved the mouse but it didn't wake. Hit the keyboard, nothing. Restarted it, nothing.

Now the damn thing won't post at all. I don't know what the fuck could have happened. After I built it I did all kinds of stress tests and shit and it passed with flying colors. I don't understand how something went wrong. I checked all the cables and shit. Opened it and reseated the memory. Nothing worked.

Am I legit gonna have to take this bitch apart piece by piece? What should I try before doing that? I purchased it in February from Newegg. Surely it's still under warranty, right?

It's just updating to Windows 11.
When update is complete your computer will only work like a 1984-style telescreen.

I've been using Windows since 1995. I like to think I've got pretty good with it. I can set it up to look how I like it, tweak it to run well on my hardware, and I enjoy playing video games and making video clips.

I am not a pedophile or a terrorist.

I see many Linux threads on here and I am often curious and I've had bouts of trying out Linux several times over the years but I always hit road blocks and end up going back to Windows where I can relax and do what I want to do without hassle. I know I could theoretically get to the same level of proficiency with Linux as I could with Windows. But is it really worth the effort? At the end of the day they do 99% the same thing.

On top of all that, these days I have been wanting to take my knowledge to the next level. Really know the ins and outs of the OS like the back of my hand to the point where I could list it on my resume.

An OS just a tool to help get to the real appeal of a computer: the individual pieces of software that are related to your specific needs. Most of that is available on Windows in one form or another. Why should I try to reinvent the wheel for myself learning a whole new system just to get back to a lot of the same pieces of software. Is Blender on Linux really that much better than Blender on Windows?

At this point should I relegate myself to being a "Windows Guy" and fully embrace Redmond?

one spies on you. one doesn't.
one forces you to install the updates they push. one doesn't.
one charges you money, and is looking for ways to make more from you. one doesn't.
one runs only than just recent-model x86-64 PCs. one runs on everything.
one has batch files, one has proper scripting.
one looks how it looks and thats it. one has a bunch of customizable environments.
one is gratuitously incompatible with other software to try and lock you in to an ecosystem. one tries to work with as many other things as possible.

the question isn't "why change?", the question is "why stay?"

My arch Linux fresh install refuses to connect to internet in certain places but works smoothly in other.
After trying various things I saw on forums, I have no idea what I'm doing nor what I have done anymore.
>take a spare HDD
>install Debian
>no network problem

What files should I copy paste from my Debian to Arch so I get rid of the network issues?

I'd use Debian but muh pacman and muh AUR makes me want to stay with arch a little bit longer.

Install gentoo.
>>
>>54628453
I would just like to interject for one moment. The operating system you are suggesting for me to install, and rather commandingly might I add, will in fact, not directly solve my current problem at hand, and will actually cause me to ask further questions about the difficult process involved in installing it. Gentoo is a very nice operating system itself, but I'd rather you directly assist me in my quest to solve my current predicament.

I understand that many computer users run the Gentoo Linux operating system, and I realize they may enjoy it greatly and are not currently experiencing the current problem that I have whilst using my non-Gentoo operating system. Through a peculiar turn of events, I have noticed an enormous amount of users make the "Install Gentoo" suggestion, but many of its users are not aware that this suggestion, in most cases, is actually not an "easy-fix" to every single computer-related error.

There really are reasons for installing Gentoo, and there are people using it, but it is just for the few users who choose to compile their own source code locally according to their chosen configuration. Gentoo is just another operating system: the problems I am experiencing will not undeviatingly be solved if I make the choice to install it. All these so-called "Install Gentoo" suggestions I am noticing should cease immediately.

In theory, you can put sh scripts that contain the command to launch these programs in /usr/local/bin and dmenu will find them. Just make sure these scripts are executable
