You can't buy one for $500.

For like $780 you can actually buy a MBA 2015.

In a recent interview, Edward Snowden unveiled his top five security tools that he uses all the time to protect his communications and devices against surveillance and hacking. These include the Tor anonymizing network, the Signal private messenger, Off-The-Record (OTR) encryption protocol, TAILS, the portable anonymity-focused operating system, and Qubes OS, the operating system that offers security through compartmentalization.

I truly hope people of /g/ have all watched Citizenfour. It is incredibly scary, 2 hour, interview of Snowden.

We were the first and the last generation to experience the short lived, free internet. Insane.

u wot? Pretty sure Tor isn't secure. My friend hosts a couple of websites and trolls Tor users by sending them messages that they're followed

Define free internet

So how soon before x86 puts arm on suicide watch?

I want my x86 phone now god dammit. I want to be able to dual boot into android and windows 7.

Also, is it possible we will see the $35 X7-Z8700 on phones in 2016 or is it only designed for tablets?

Surface phone when?
>>
>>51286618

Why do you want x86 in your phone or tab?

Do you even plan to have a keyboard and mouse connected to either?

If not, what's the point of having binary compatibility with software you can't control?
>>
>>51286791
Use it as a phone when you're out, and use it as a low powered windows machine at home? It'll be cool, you just put it into a dock with usb ports and hdmi out, that also charges the phone.

Why do you guys hate him /g/?

Talk about what's false about:

>Mac/OSX don't get virus
>Steve Job's death
>Using the word "Linux" as to describe a desktop/server OS
>Human life
>Yourself
>Python
>SystemDick

and you're on your way to getting an A

Macs never get viruses.
Macs have special hardware that isn't exactly the same as what other PCs have, but with a shiny case.

Is there a linux distro that doesn't look like ass

Are there FLOSS devs out there who can spell "usability" "consistency" "aesthetics"
92 posts and 10 images submitted.

no?
>>
>>51285956
Yes, there are. They are also the kind of people that instead of creating a GTK theme and icon pack decide to spin-off a whole new DE + distro. See elementary.

meh. those projects usually fail due to too little support / devs. sux

What VPN do you use, /g/?

Trying to decide on one for myself, but I'm rather picky. I looked at the list on privacytools.io and they seem nice but I have a few requirements and questions:

>nodes in multiple countries
>can I pick the dns server and forwarder they use?

Are there any vpns that use dnscrypt?
>>

>Are there any vpns that use dnscrypt?
Alright, so I did some research since I wasn't entirely sure and it seems it is possible for ME to use dnscrypt (client) and the queries will go THROUGH the VPN and be returned to me with the site, at least according to http://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/misunderstandings-about-vpns-dns.372060/

Can anyone chime in on this? I thought VPNs used their own name resolvers and there was no way to change this.

why does the people are using microsoft visual c++ instead of code::blocks? it is multiplatform, open source, fast, and simple.

Hi /g/, my bro sent me here. That punk ass little bitch. Looking for a good laptop, wont be a pain in the ass for nursing school. Storage is not an issue, most shit done on flash drive and SD card. What are your thoughts b/w:

The only reason you would take the Yoga over the Surface is if you want a real keyboard
Surface is better in every other regard.
>>
So, you think I should go for the surface. Im afraid a tablet may burn out easy. Will this be the case?

I just spent 4 hours being horrified by my workplace network. It isn't even my job. I'm a multimedia guy. I need to share this experience so I can sleep tonight without nightmares.

Follow me into the depths of hell, fellow anon. I did not un-fuck the network, but I made it work. Work like an undying creature clawing its way from the pits of hell.

>Internet is out, fix it Anon! You're young you know this tech stuff!
>Okay what do we have set up ...
>Pic-Related (post-fixing, it WAS worse)
>NOTHING WITH LABELS AT ALL.
>Oh Christ Almighty help me
>Spend hours figuring the following out:

Cable Modem -> Router A (4 cables out) -> Wireless Router B
Router A -> Switch1 -> Switch 2-> Multiple-Sub-Switches
Wireless Router B -> Switch 2 (Why?!)

>What the fuck am I looking at
>Proceed to figure out why we have no network. All lights are on.
>One computer + Wireless is online, working fine.
>Theorize, Router A -> Wireless Router is fine
>Switch 1 must be bad? Proceed to test.
>Owner shows up, gives me a Switch Box from out back, likely shit, looks older. Doesn't work.
>Proceed digging into other possible problems...

Is there any particular type of drive or drive manufacturer you have had good or bad luck with? I've been looking at upgrading my storage and was leaning towards Hitachi as I have had the best luck with them in the past.

Pic related. A collection of my dead hard drives through the years.

anything you buy is 100% luck of the draw, period. you aren't cramming 50 of these into an enterprise enclosure and running them 24/7 hard like that company that some retard will undoubtedly post.

you could have a fucking maxtor or a deskstar and it could last 20 fucking years.

the only drive that is generally regarded as the best spinner is a WD raptor, those are fucking rock solid motherfuckers. but if you want high capacity storage get a red
>>
You realize some of those drives have 5 year warranty, right?
