What were the stuff one should know about kindle paperwhite? I remember something about a new firmware or flahsing some new OS and using Calibre to access epub and stuff. Anyone have a wiki page or an infographic detailing the process and stuff? Is it still a thing?

It's garbage and lacks features and format support for the sole purpose of pushing DRM.

Get a better ereader from a company that doesn't try to be the dictator of the entire ecosystem or insert advertisements into books.

>Dude it's like Legos, that is if every single part cost hundreds of dollars and plus a risk of short circuiting your shit up, and instead of a well made instructions you get barely decipherable technical illustrations or a poorly edited youtube video of some greasy fuck's nasaly voice! It's easy!

I mean I get it, it's not that hard to put a PC together but it's NOT fucking legos. You can easily fuck something up big time your first time doing it if you're not super careful/unlucky.

It is legos. Shit gets fucking expensive if it's your hobby.

You can't zap your legos with static electricity.

Thinking about a 2016 MacBook. I value portability over everything else. The $1300 stings too much though.

I would never buy a new Macbook, let someone else take the depreciation hit.

What did he mean by this?

I know this isn't /computerproblems/ but I've been completely stumped on this issue for a few days, maybe someone here can help me out.

My friend let his special needs brother use his thinkpad (windows 10) and when he got it back it won't boot. He doesn't know what the brother did. The automatic repair/system recovery tools wouldn't work so I tried a factory reset, but that kept getting hung at 50% so I wiped the drive and tried to reinstall. That didn't work either, it would finish the installation process but then give the unspecified error of "the operating system could not be loaded because a required installation file is missing or contains errors." I know it's not the installation media, but I tried it with the disc and with a USB drive loaded with 2 different isos and got the same error every time.

I tried putting my hard drive (same drive from my thinkpad, a 500gb seagate) into his computer and it boots and runs fine. So I know it's not the cable, memory or anything else besides his hard drive. Then I tried cloning my drive onto an external drive, and from there onto his, so now the two drives should be exact copies of each other but his computer still won't boot with his drive in it. In fact, windows won't even load, it just gets past the thinkpad splash screen and goes to the black screen with the blinking cursor and stays there. I checked his drive with chkdisk and HD Tune and both return no errors or bad blocks, so I don't think there is any physical damage. However he is sure the brother didn't drop or damage the computer in any way because he was in the same room with him the whole time, so I was doubtful of that in the first place.

I'm at a complete loss now. Anyone else have any ideas? Pic related.

weird, I thought special needs people were usually really at home with thinkpads
>>
>>55239144
Yep, I actually encouraged him to get one because he's careless and they're so hard to break. Looks like that backfired on me because now I have to watch a thinkpad die.
>>
Check the boot order in the BIOS, if it's set properly, then the drive is indeed fucked

I got the scariest phone call a minute ago from a middle eastern dude that was singing in Arabic and told me to remember his name..... After the call I reset my phone and looked in my recent calls list and the number wasn't there

It recommends a 500w PSU, but really I should get at least a 600w PSU, right?

>>
bump

would have posted in /sqt/ but it was past bump limit
>>
Well... newer components doesn't take that much of power. So it doesn't really matter.

Yeah, get a good 600w or 650w

I have a 850w because I don't have a life and spend money only on my computer
>>
>>55238975
People claim you get the most efficiency at about 50% usage, but the entire point of 80+ certification is that they never go under 80% efficiency even at 90% load, so 500W or even 450W would be just fine, even better if it's a Gold, Platinum, or Titanium rated PSU.

People would throw a fit and post all kinds of bullshit about how I'm running dual GPUs (granted, not SLI) on only a 650W platinum rated PSU, but it handles things just fine and doesn't put up a stink or run hot or anything.

the rx 480 won't live up to the hype?
Why are you doing this you your beloved company AMD shills?
Why do you set unrealistic expectations for a card that is supposed to be a low-budget/mid-range option?
8 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>55238965
Dude, there is plenty of benchmarks of the rx 480 already, google around.
Now, check to which cards it compare in performance
Now, check the price of said cards
Now, check the price of the rx 480
???
Profit!
You're not retarded, right?
>>
>>55238986

all of this stuff is speculation and "korean" benchmarks. There is no confirmation. If the rx 480 is worse than 970 what will you do? Get cucked
>>
>>55239109
The 970 cost $300, the rx 480 cost $200.
Are you getting the picture of this now?
Or you need further explanation?

A typical linux distro.
No edgy, hipster or buzzword stuff.
Simply works.
Great if you are using it daily, boring if you want to learn or experimenting something.

Fedora is better in every way

It has a more euphoric name, but debian has the more euphoric users

>step aside ubuntubabbies and arch autists
>i use debian
>that means i'm a mature adult and get REAL work done
>just watch me open gtk vim instead of your autismal hipster terminal vim and write hello world in C++, a real mature adult programming language
>my software is old, all ofi t. it's not because debian doesn't know how to into stability, it's because masculine and handsome men like me don't fix what aint broken.

Not sure if this goes in /tv/ or not but does anyone know a good video compressor program that'll compress my tv shows without losing quality, like a h.265/HEVC encoder? I dont really care all that much to be honest about space but when a single tv show (Smallville) takes over 200 gb space thats a problem.

This website is satire, right?
>A common hack is to go into the control panel on a computer running windows and change the right button on the mouse to function as the left button and vice versa. So that the button are switched which causes confusion for the user (confusion that can be used in social engineering hacks to steal personal passwords for example). To protect yourself from this it is a good idea to never leave your mouse at the computer you have been using. I have made a special cargo-case for my mouse, so that I can now fit it in my belt (I have it on my left side at all times and my Ericsson cell phone on the right). A good mouse policy is security 101.

I only made it to 7th grade but it took less than a month to soak in enough to be proficient in python and most of that knowledge transfers to other languages since it's syntax and logical thinking.
