So I'm planning to regularly back up my data by burning it into DVDs.
My issues right now is how to store the DVDs and get the longest shelf life out of them in the most efficient space. I'm very sure that plastic sleeves inside a plastic chest under my bed and over my closet are not the best place to put them.
I know they won't last forever so I also plan to move the date from old drives to new drives cyclicaly but still I want to store them properly.
A minor issue will be how to schedule the back ups and how to orgazine them.

Welcome to /fglt/. We are always open to users of all levels, including absolute beginners.

There are four ways to try GNU/Linux, you can:

0) Install a GNU/Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
1) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full GNU/Linux experience".
2) Dual-boot GNU/Linux with Windows/Mac (recommended if you want to learn more about GNU/Linux)
3) Go balls deep and overwrite everything with GNU/Linux

Before asking, please search for answers to your questions in resources.

Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread.

Understand that much of your software from Windows will be unavailable, although maybe WINE can make up for it.

I shall repeat the question posed as the other thread expired: anybody have any experience with Sabayon? Thoughts on it?
>>
>>54038523

man find, dude.
-type f finds only files (not directories)
-exec excecutes a command for each file
{} is replaced by the found files' names
+ adds it all in one command I think. You might not want that, depending on your Python script.

Model 2

Using it as a DNS, and passive ad blocker with pihole.
Also VPN server.

Sits on top of my router powered by it's USB port. Router expansion pack, sort of.

>VPN box
Everything that goes in on one port comes out of the other through a vpn
Completely plug-and-play for single devices or entire networks that can be routed, so it's running dhcp and dns (which gets forwarded to the vpn)

Also acts as hardware-firewall making sure that the only packets getting out and in are to / from the vpn server

>headless low-power Torrent/Mega/Downloadstation
should be selfexplanatory

To be honest with those things running I'm already reaching the limit of model 2, the vpn encryption alone already uses an entire core when there's a lot of traffic

Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).
----
If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™

Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", lightweight
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.

Stop browsing /g/ right now and do the following, on whatever OS and DE you are currently using:

>>>Step 1<<<
Create a new directory and open it.

>>>Step 2<<<
Create 100 new files in it. Their content does not matter.

>>>Step 3<<<
Rename all these files to add the prefix “OK”.

If you cannot do all this within 45 seconds, you don’t belong here. Fuck off back to /v/ you newfag. It took me 32 seconds.

Today my computer is getting stuck at the "Starting Windows" part. I left it there all morning and it didn't get past it.

I tried using system restore, startup repair, chkdsk, memory check, etc. But it didn't fix it.

I tried to start in safe mode but it gets stuck after loading driver amdkmpfd.sys.

Google wasn't much help and microsofts page says to go and modify the registry but I feel like I'm gonna fuck up.

What do?

>in general tasks

any i5 is good enough for basic stuff, so you won't see any "upgrade" if it already performs excellent. The bottleneck is your HD not your CPU for general stuff.

>gaming

You aren't using any real CPU demanding game, or your VGA is the limiting factor.

http://www.cio.com/article/3055979/microsoft-is-boosting-security-through-hardware-in-windows-10-pcs-phones.html

>Microsoft is making a hardware-based security feature called TPM (Trusted Platform Module) 2.0 a minimum requirement on most Windows 10 devices. Starting July 28, the company will require device manufacturers shipping PCs, tablets and smartphones to include TPM 2.0.

>TPM has been available for years, mostly on business PCs. TPM 2.0 provides a hardware layer to safeguard user data by managing and storing cryptographic keys in a trusted container.

>The TPM requirement "will be enforced through our Windows Hardware Certification program," Microsoft said in a blog post.

>Hardware makers will need to implement TPM 2.0 in the form of chips or firmware. TPM will be activated by default, though it's not certain if users will have the option to disable it.

>TPM could lead to wider use of two-factor authentication in Windows 10 to log into PCs, applications and Web services. For example, Windows Hello -- a biometric authentication technique using face, fingerprint, or iris recognition -- could be used along with encryption keys in TPM chips to authenticate users.

>TPM 2.0 has important security enhancements over the aging TPM 1.2, and is a "minimum hardware requirement for Windows 10 going forward," Microsoft said in a presentation at UEFI PlugFest in late March.

>Many new business laptops, hybrids, and tablets with Intel chips already include TPM 2.0. Low-cost PCs typically don't have TPM, but will now need to comply with Microsoft's new hardware requirements. Some Windows laptops now ship with TPM 1.2.

>"The goal is to make the PC a more secure platform," said Kevin Krewell, principal analyst at Tirias Research. Windows is one of the least secure OSes around, he added.

>Microsoft is also encouraging Windows 10 PC users to move to advanced hardware like Intel's Skylake chips, which are more secure than previous platforms.

Welcome to the DRM, friends.

Yes, but without 2 GB of plugins and 200MB of working memory per tab vim is pretty much useless, unless your idea of development is editing xorg.conf. That was the point if the comparison.
