What the fuck, if this is your average self proclaimed techie guy, how bad are the masses?

For a lot of people, that kind of stuff is just noise. This includes people who are very good at things like writing software or even things like digital design. A master chef doesn't necessarily know all the specifications of his appliances.

> how bad are the masses
really really really, like REALLY bad!
Idiots so to say.
The worship crapple, M$, are fanboys for Samsung and Sony, need an app for ANYTHING they do and BUY any app that asvertises free Hamburgers.
If it's not the latest tech, it's oooold school or retro!
And if anyone knows how to Ctr-c + ctrl-v they think "ooohh he has dem h4X0r skillz"
> I hate the word "app" it's called program or application!
They don't have the latest version of CommonSense installed, so they need "muh antivirus" and still get infected by malcius js-ransomware in emails pretending to be phone bills.

Privacy or "Don't tell everybody about your private life who isn't at least a fried of you!" has never crossed their minds.

So yes, pretty fucked up, don't you think?

What would be the best Linux distro to start off from if I have never used Linux?

Windows Vista

Real answer here.

Linux Mint. It comes with pretty much everything. It's a bit bloated but no worse than Windows.

After being on that for 4-6 months move to a distro like Antergos or Fedora and stay on it another 4-6 months.

After that you can move on the Arch or Debian minimal.

I am thinking about selling my phone and buying a new one which shouldn't cost more than 200$.
Right now I have a Galaxy S6 Edge but i hate having an expensive phone and always putting a silicon case around it. I'd like to buy a phone which best case should be middle class to high end. It should be made of metal and have stock android installed or at least installable (if that's a word, englisch isn't my mother language).

One Plus x? I don't know if it's any good though, but it looks nice.

The new xiaomi redmi 3 also looks pretty nice. It will probably be around $150 in the US.

The OnePlus X is really a great example of what I'm looking for. I didn"t even know, or better say I forgot that it exists, I just thought about the OnePlus 2 which I didn't really like. The X would be a real option, thanks!

You mentioned the silicone casing, OPX is something you'd wanna keep around one of those (Currently using one)

So when do you think we'll achieve photo-realism in games?
29 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>52401603
Not until consoles die
>>
>>52401603
When the creative people will focus on the visual more. Seriously any PC can give interesting scenery and whatnot, it's all about the motivation, coming up with the mindset to make something great, that's the essential; i think!

look, i've been fucking with graphics software for 20 years, and the thing is, it's like everything has been done and done since the nineties, visually.
in CGI movies and gaming, etc. it's easy to say "GPUs can do this" because they can. The average gaming PC is more powerful than the big SGi machines that have been used to make Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park scenes now. even Toy Story, i think it came out 20 years ago or something. that's giving you an order of idea.

no, it's just that they don't care about making something fussed.
Indie games are stuck in the 90's SNES era.

FARCRY was the perfect example of a visually fussed game, also a lot of racing games really have photo-realistic details since years.
>>
>>52401764
This anon is pretty much correct. I have a feeling we'll start seeing a lot more photoreal games once, consoles catch up (or die).

What is the most secure smartphone available?

I know the US military uses Android because I reckon they make a custom ROM and whatnot.

I know the iPhone has had hardware level encryption since the iPhone 3G and also they supposedly tell the Gov to fuck off.

And I also know that politicians and dictators have some weird fetish for Blackberry and they are for some reason considered very secure despite being closed source.

So which is it /g/?

I use Verizon but I'm still on my parents plan.

Once they stop paying for it I'll probably move to straight talk.

Supposedly it's better not to use wristpads but float your hands above the keyboard as you're typing. Is it really? How many people are resting their hands while typing, how many are floating them?
>>
>>52402043
floating your hands above can lead to RSI, its much better to get a wrist pad with a decent amount of height so your fingers and wrists don't have to strain up to reach the keys.
