I just recently switched from Google Chrome to Pale Moon. Its taken a while to adjust, but I think this is a change for the better. Being a n00b to Pale Moon/Firefox/Forks, what plugins do you guys recommend.

>inb4 Ublock Origin, Encrypted Web/HTTPS Everywhere, CipherFox, NoScript.

Kudos to anon who knows of a HTML5 global video forcer, to switch from flash to html5 for playing videos

May I ask why you chose Pale Moon over Firefox?
Regular Firefox has far better support for stuff like HTML5 video on YouTube and such.
It will play them by default without extensions or any fuckery needed. Sounds like it may be a better option for you.

>inb4 muh bloat
Yes, I know Firefox comes with some features that are useless to many, but it's often easier to disable shit in Firefox than it is to add missing stuff into forks. I prefer flipping a toggle in about:config over hunting down half-assed extensions and relying on hacks to get various things to work anyway.

>HTML5 global video forcer, to switch from flash to html5 for playing videos
Doesn't exist
What about Flash games? Can't convert that to video.
The computer has no idea which Flash app is a game or a video, so it can't convert
>>

You fell for the mene, just use Firefox. Pale Moon is irrelevant at best and a security risk at worst.

So, apparently there are a lot of breaking and enterings in my area, time has come for me to boost my security.

What does /g/ use for encryption?
I was considering truecrypt, it seems nice, however, since it is no longer updated, are there any major security issues with it?

Same with backup, are you on dropbox botnet or what do you use?

I use bit locker, (the truecrypt update)
If you go on truecrypt.sourceforge.net, it'll explain all the steps to create a separate partition and then hide it
>>
thieves arent even going to bother trying to break through a windows password. they only care about stealing a device to sell it to someone else who wont even bother trying to crack the windows password

regardless, if you are still paranoid it literally does not matter because of the shit i said above, and no matter what encryption tool you use no one will take the time to decrypt it.

dont like a fucking tool, just use bitlocker or literally anything you fucking fag, because everyone here knows you would give up your password to the police after one night in jail you fucking nerd
>>
>>51388928
Why would the police want nudes of my girlfriend and my logins and shit?
I've had computers stolen before, and then I got my game stolen and pictures of gf full nude etc etc.

How about backups? I don't want to loose my shit again..

Building a PC for a friend

Get a 390 instead of a 970
Does your friend really need an optical drive?
>>
>>51388804
always useful and he needs the sd card reader
>>
>>51388780
1. Get 8GB RAM, no need for more.
2. Get an R9 390 instead of the memecard 969.5
3. Get a better CPU cooler with the savings.
4. Get a higher capacity HDD, too.
5. Fuck off with your meme-reader. There's an SD Card reader on the motherboard.
6. That keyboard is a meme. There's no need for a neon-lit fisherprice plastic mess of a keyboard.
7. Do you need the case fans?
8. Get this PSU:

I just want to inform everyone that Microsoft has enabled automatic updates in Windows 7. I explicitly disabled this feature on all of my personal computers after the initial Windows install. But today I noticed that my windows 7 machines were installing updates to windows 7 without my permission. My guess is that one of the updates from last month's windows update "patch Tuesday" release changed this setting for me without my knowledge. I have no idea what was installed and I am making this post to inform others about this issue so that others can prevent this from happening to them.

I usually manually install windows updates to avoid updates that I don't want like Windows 10 and a few other updates that phone home to microsoft.

Well now I have to manually enable and disable windows update.

This happened to me last night on windows 8.1

ITT: idiots who knew full well all updates after August were botnet and still decided to play with some. Nothing to see here.

Give me a reason not to build a cheap PC for my Mom over buying an older used PC.

I was thinking of either building this http://pcpartpicker.com/p/sZ9vrH or buying an old PC.

Are there any benefits of using a newer cheap PC over an older PC that might have been good 7 years ago?

You could get her a cheap ThinkPad for that price.

It is for your mom. That build should be fine but you haven't picked out a cpu. Make sure you don't skimp out on that.

Two guys who literally wrote the book on Apple's design standards shit all over Apple's latest designs

http://www.fastcodesign.com/3053406/how-apple-is-giving-design-a-bad-name

>Apple is reinforcing the old, discredited idea that the designer’s sole job is to make things beautiful, even at the expense of providing the right functions, aiding understandability, and ensuring ease of use

Are they right?

What did they mean by this?
>>
I study human computer interaction, a field don norman and a small handful of other people basically invented.

in a nutshell, yes. design is supposed to make interaction more efficient, more satisfying, etc... not just "shinier".

Why the hell do people use KAT instead of TPB when the latter is better in literally every aspect?

Is it because all the TPB domains are banned in their country? Or is it just plain ignorance?

Vi or Emacs

Hey guys I'm new in the unix world and would like to know whether /g/ uses Vi or Emacs.
46 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
Better use vi / vim! It's simpler and you can work more efficiently than with emacs!
>>
>>51387916
I use vim. If you are going to use only one text editor it should be flexible.
Fuck emacs, was forced to use that shit in college.

Yes.
