Buy a more reputable ssd. See if the student can get a cheap windows 7 key from their school. There is no reason to use 8. Go with 7 or 10.

Hello /g/, I am going to do a little project. I am going to make a server using only software from 1996. In phase one, I will build a prototype in a VM. In phase 2, I will install it onto an old computer I have in my basement. It will have a web server and an ftp server. Right now I am looking for an OS to use, if you want to make a suggestion, it has to be:
1. What OS
2. Where to download
3. From 1996 to earlier
4. How to config (guide has to be from 1996)
5. At least somewhat popular during 1996
6. Has to be somewhat easy to use. Should have a gui

Are there any good, reliable external hard drives that you guys recommend? I have pic related. It's ok. It kind of leaves me paranoid because it fails to turn on at times. Also, it's only 500GB, not a full TB.

Anyone here on the fence about CIS/MIS or getting a CS major?
I am halfway through my CIS major and I am beginning to rethink it because it's mostly business related details and less programming. The thing is that I am only 2 years away from finishing my degree in CIS and if I decide to change now I would probably end up having to spend 4 more years in school to get a CS major.
Do you guys think the change would be worth it? Or am I better off just majoring in CIS and someday getting a masters in CS?

Unfortunately, fifteen year old me purchased one of these years ago thinking it was unstoppable and could run anything for years to come. Recently I've realized how shifty my Pc is and I'm looking to beef it up for fallout 4. The power supply on this thing is very limited and I'm pretty sure the motherboard is shit too. Should I even bother upgrading, or is there a somewhat inexpensive build that will far surpass my current setup?

Upgrading that thing would be a waste of money. You might be able to use the ram and hard drive in a new build, but I would suggest selling the computer as a whole and putting the money towards a new build.

You're right, OP.
I don't think any of my headsets lasted more than 2 years. Usually the mic stops working or else you'll lose audio in one of the sides.
Does anyone have any experience with repairing these? I bet a lot of this is just caused by bad contacts or loose wires.

I'm trying to decide on a graphics card for my new build which will have a 6700k and 32gb of RAM.
I know that the W7100 is double the price, but I think I want the 8gb of DDR5 over the lower priced W5100.
I will use the rig for equal amounts of CAD, gaming, and video/photo editing. The computer will always be running 4 1080p monitors. I run both windows and linux and hope to experiment with Xen Virtualization to run both OS at once.

pretty sure you need 2 gpus and a mobo+cpu that support pci pass through for this to work, 2x 390 would be a good choice. firepro is needlessly expensive unless you have money to burn
