Why using SSD's?
You spent 200 bucks for a ludicrous amount of storage just because its a few seconds faster?
I understand that its useful when you need reliable and shockproof storage, but I don't understand why someone would use that in a desktop PC when you can get more than 4TB for the same price.
Did I miss something, /g/?

I got a 500gb SSD for 130 on amazon

it makes everything on it run way faster, say good by to loading times on virtually every game

Also I don't need 4tb of space, I already have a 1tb drive thats more than enough

Only one port on the entire machine, which will usually be filled by the charger.

Can't even plug a usb stick or external hard disk in without an expensive Apple dongle.

Shitty keyboard that is almost impossible to type on.

At least go for the Air - the "Macbook" is dreadful.

End of month coming. Anyone else completely obliterate their cap? I love my 300 GB monthly allowance, makes me feel like a big boy.

Thanks Comcast.

Intended for users of all levels, including absolute beginners.

There are three ways to try Linux, you can:

1) Install a Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
2) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full Linux experience".
3) Go balls deep and overwrite everything with Linux (not recommended)

If you are serious about switching to Linux and if you have Windows dual-booted (recommended for pure newbies), we recommend you use it exclusively for 2 weeks, and avoid Windows dual booting for that period of time, or it's likely you will start retreating back to windows instead of getting used to Linux as your new home and working onmaking it feel the way you want it.

>Recommended for beginners:
-*buntus except vanilla Ubuntu (Unity)
-Debian (For Broadcom devices, use an ISO that includes non-free firmware)
-openSUSE
-LinuxMint (a.k.a Ubuntu LTS + Cinnamon)

Before asking, please find the answers to your questions in resources.

Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly Linux Thread.

Understand that much of your software from Windows will be unavailable, although maybe wine can make up for it.

Why would anyone reccomend Debian for beginners? It's only good for servers, takes way too much effort to get a usable desktop OS out of it.
>>
>>51595646
Debian comes with pre-configured DEs, dumbass.
>>
>>51595646
It's good for servers and data collection by the NSA, since they own Debian

This might sound stupid but I can't get it to work. After reading how many rows and how many columns a matrix has, I'm trying to display the minimum element on each row, then the minimum element on each column.

My code looks like this, but sometimes it throws an IndexOutOfBoundsException, sometimes it just doesnt display the minimum for the columns, only for the rows.

The code for the rows, which works, is this

public static void minRand(int[][] n) {

int[] result = new int[n.length];
int min = 0;

for (int i = 0; i < n.length; i++) {
for (int j = 0; j < n[0].length; j++) {
if (n[i][j] < n[i][min]) {
min = j;
}
result[i] = n[i][min];
}
System.out.println("Minimum on line " + i + " is " + result[i]);
}

}

And the code for the columns, which does not work is

public static void minCol(int[][] n) {

int[] result = new int[n[0].length];
int min = 0;

for (int i = 0; i < n.length; ++i) {
min = Integer.MAX_VALUE;
for (int j = 1; j < n[i].length; ++j)
if (n[j][i] < min)
min = n[j][i];
System.out.println("Minimum on column no " + i + " is " + min);
}

}

If i give it 3 lines and 4 columns, the console displays this:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 3
at Principal.minCol(Principal.java:103)
at Principal.afisareMeniu(Principal.java:196)
at Principal.main(Principal.java:13)

Minimum on line 0 este 0
Minimum on line 1 este 0
Minimum on line 2 este 0

It's 0 because i didnt initialize the matrix, but the minimum on each line works.

Also. If i give it a square matrix, both the minimum for rows and columns work. What am i doing wrong?

You can't use j as index for n.

Should i use a different For?

Can we have an emacs thread?

I'm an intermediate vim user who wants to get into emacs. Mostly because of better scala support.

What do you use emacs for?

Can you share some tips?

How can a newbie get started? How did you get started?

What are some good extensions?

Which distribution of emacs do you use on Linux and on OS X?

Is there any reason not to use Chrome over Safari on my hackintosh desktop?
What speaks against Chrome again besides the botnet you can disable in the settings?
I dislike the lack of favicons and html bugs in safari.

I use chrome on my hackintosh desktop. Works fine. afaik the only reason to use safari is because it saves battery life on a laptop.

Tell me, can LTO-4 tapes hold 800GB or 1.6TBs of actual data?

Everywhere says "1.6TB with 2:1 compression" so what does that actually mean?
How much usable space is that?
67 posts and 8 images submitted.
>>
It's 1.6TB and the data is automatically compressed due to the format, I'd assume.

Keep in mind tape storage is used because it's a tape, not because it's a good way to access your data. Tape is fuckin indestructible, but it's shit for anything but long-term archival.
>>
>>51595157
I'VE BEEN SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING AN LTO5 DRIVE

YOU DROP BIG DOSH ON THE DRIVE BUT THE TAPES ARE DIRT CHEAP, 3TB COMPRESSED PER LTO5 TAPE
>>
>>51595236
This.

It doesn't replace a RAID. It just makes it so you won't need 2 RAIDs.
