Can someone recommend good books that explain what happens under the hood of compiles.
Whenever I code in C++ I feel like i'm spawning black holes all over the place because I don't know what happens/how will the code get compiled (into what ASM) or what is the best way to code something to achieve maximum performance ? Are books in pic related decent ?

For me I prefer a stable system over something that's bleeding edge.

Many online bookstores carry these green editions or K&R. They ship from India and are cheaper than used copies of the white ANSI K&R. What's the catch? Is there a difference in quality for the poo in loo versions?

I just hooked up my speakers to my amp and it doesn't seem to be working correctly. When I open a video for instance the volume of voices is really low. When listening to music it also fades in and out sometimes. Here is a link to the sound:
