What's the point of making humanoid robots that look like they're from some science fiction movie but can barely do basic shit? Do the creators not realize how retarded this looks?

>What's the point of making humanoid robots that look like they're from some science fiction movie but can barely do basic shit?
Marketing. Gets the companies noticed and in the news.
The robots that are bought by companies like Amazon to replace workers in their warehouses look nothing like that.
should have at least made it look like a gundam mobile suit

Well in Japan there is a whole "social robot" thing going on.
Since Japan's population is aging fast they'll either need to hire a bunch of immigrants in the care taking sector or find a way to mechanize it.
However most people aren't exactly recipient to being taking care of by a 6 legged robot that looks like a monster from a horror movie.

>Our well-informed sources are confident that Polaris 10 should match or outperform Radeon R9 390 cards and in some cases even give the Radeon R9 390X a good kicking.
>The Polaris 10 should end up at $299 price at launch
Thoughts? Guess that puts the "99% the performance of 980ti" meme at rest.
Should buyers just skip Polaris and go straight for high-end or enthusiast Vega in Q4 16/ Q1 17 respectively?
>>54357718
desu every shit article is spewing bullshit about alleged performance every other day

IT'S OVER, AMD IS FINISHED & BANKRUPT
Nothing new
Only retards believe that AMD could release cards that are aimed at the lowend and midrange market with performance that is rivaling the GTX980Ti, pure retardation or simply trolling around.
On the other side, I expect the GTX 1080 to be in the 980Ti region with less power demand.

What kind of information is Google collecting on my Android device?
Obviously any Google app Google is going to have access to, but how much, if any, access do they have to non-Google apps, in particular apps that use your Google account for login and stuff like that?

Not to defend Pajeet, but the US is coasting on decades of progress that were lost because muh cheap third world production.
Why do you think the US is so annoying when it comes to IP? Shit like patents and copyright? Because they require a make-believe system to remain rich, but slowly China and India are developing their research.
I'm not predicting these countries will "rise" or the US will "fall", but I'm pointing out this is possible, not now, but in some decades.

It's already happening. These countries have the technology and a lot of people who will be working on making their products in their own countries. Asia is the future unless they get bombed back to the stone age like Afghanistan or Libya or Syria.
How messy is your home directory /g/?
Unacceptably messy. It pisses me off that so many programs these days will ignore my xdg settings and create a "Documents" folder or some shit, and will break if you don't let them. I blame ubuntu-type distributions.
>cd; ls -a | wc

After a while I just make a folder called "Junk" and shove everything in there. Then if it gets really messy again I make current Junk Junk.tar.gz and put it into the new Junk.
Let's say I got a paper with lab results from my analysis, how do I make an exact copy but with different results? do I just go outside to some printer and they can do it or what? help me I am dumb

Is there any point in spending more on 1080p for a 32-inch TV? Just going to put it in my dorm room and watch netflix / play games.
It depends on how far you're going to be from the screen.
There's some disagreement about when the exact cut offs are, but here's an example I've seen a lot. You can google for more information.
Also, this would probably should have been posted in the stupid questions thread.
>>54356279
Depends how fussy you are about resolution I guess.
I still use a 720p TV as my main screen.
>>54356279
Do you like to crawl right up to your TV and eyeball every pixel from 6 inches away? No? Then don't bother.
What's a good high performance Linux TCP proxy?
I specifically need a general purpose TCP proxy for RTMP traffic as well as HTTP
My website is being DDoS'd for the first time and it's a shit. My current provider where all my data is stored aren't willing to do anything but null route me. So I thought maybe I can get some VPS with some host that does provide anti-ddos protection and then proxy it to my regular servers (with new IPs).
Does that sound a reasonable approach?
as an aside, I might have the attacker's IP (was some...

u need a hardware firewall, use OVH
>>54356196
I was looking at OVH, their VPS plans advertise anti DDoS protection, will that not be good enough?
I don't know whether it's high preformance or not. But check out Haproxy.
OK, say I have a Linux Laptop and a Windows Desktop and a 2TB external hard drive.
What would be the best way to back this shit up?
I'm always kind of anxious that if I have a hardware failure and a 1 week old backup or so, that it'd take me more time to recreate all the steps I did during this week, than to fully start over and set up my OS from scratch
I mean most of my important documents are in my emails anyway, so they'd not be affected by a hardware failure since I could just redownload them
>>54356099
