your favorite protocol, how you use it
did you know there's 7 layers?
by layer
7. Application layer
6. Presentation layer
5. Session layer
4. Transport layer
3. Network layer
2. Data link layer
1. Physical layer
I'm bringing back Distributed Social Networking Protocol (DSNP)
>>55330732
don't forget the most important layer 8: end user
>your favorite protocol, how you use it
SNMP, works like a charm for IPC (atop unix domain sockets), without needing any of that bloated dbus crap
That's the osi model not TCP IP
>>55330732
TCP and IP don't have 7 layers. Those are protocols that belong in their own layers
And there aren't even 7 layers, there are 5. Get with the times!
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-radeon-rx-480-polaris-10,4616-9.html
"There’s no doubt that Polaris is more efficient than its predecessors. However, the design's efficiency isn't what enthusiasts might have been hoping for. The Radeon RX 480 significantly exceeds its official TDP. Moreover, distribution between the motherboard’s PCIe slot and the auxiliary power connector isn't optimal either. It’s up to AMD’s partners to design cards without these shortcomings."
>>55330648
Hopefully custom boards will take care of this.
This review even pointed out that if AMD used an 8-pin power connector instead of 6, this issue would be avoided.
TDP != power consumption.
How the fuck can you be stupid enough to not know what TDP is but then talk shit?

KEK, fucking normies.
Hi /g/. I`ve recently graduated with a BA in Economics and Finance. I want to do my masters in Compueter Science next year. Basically, its 3 years worth of stuff crammed into one. What can I expect? What can I research or study to get comfortable with doing a Masters in Computer Science?
What does this have to do with the RX480?
>>55330606
N-nothing? I was thinking /g/ would have a lot of undergrads doing computer science.
Expect a lot of high level math, especially Linear Algebra. I'm guessing based of your BS degrees, you weren't introduced to much more than Calculus I. If you want to do software/programming/hardware related work look into Computer, Software, and/or Electrical Engineering instead. I wouldn't recommend jumping into a CS grad program based on your background.
/g/ PRINTER THREAD
I need a fucking printer. I hate fucking printers, they're all pieces of shit.
What do you use?
I'm looking for something cheap, and that I can get cheap bootleg ass ink cartridges for.
I print in black and white only (shipping labels).
Laser? Inkjet? Please suggest something that doesn't suck dicks
>>55330561
atleast it's not a GPU thread, thank you anon. Also get a printer that runs off FOSS software and doesnt transmit everything you print to fbi.gov
Look for a Brother monochrome laser printer that also does photocopying/scanning in the $100 range. Buy third party toner that gives high yield (2600 pages) for around $20.
Printers are dead bro. There's not much reason to use one anymore. If you need to scan something just take a picture of the page with your Android phone @ 400-1600 ISO and crop/correct perspective later. If you need to print something then just go to staples/office depot, I think it's like 10¢ a page.
I haven't used a printer since 2012. Still have an old HP deskjet collecting dust somewhere, maybe I should sell it on ebay or something.
Hey /g/
What the shit is with 3.5mm jacks on my devices giving out every single time? After 2 year my chinkpad jack is like a blown out vagina
I replaced my n5 jack last summer and it lasted 8 months
All the ipods I had growing up did that eventualy
Happened to my HTC Desire S
Later my Galaxy Note, twice
Are you just not supposed to listen to music or something?
Thank you for reading my rant,

I use them all the time and never manged to break one
Do you also buy new headphones every week?

Can we have a gpu general?
Redirect all gpu threads here please so we can discuss graphics cards in one United thread instead of 10 troll threads and 3 serious threads.
This is far better than flooding up the board with gpu and maki threads?
>>55330523
Finally. Thank you OP!
I have an old HD6870, with a gigabyte cooler non reference.
Could I buy the rx480 and put that cooler on it? Is it compatible? I also have a gtx260 with a non reference cooler, could I use that instead?
>another cucksumer shit general

which card? Preferably over 60 FPS in games like witcher 3, Doom, Tomb Raider

UDF is the perfect format for flash drives
- Simple single-user file system like FAT
- Unencumbered by patents
- Unicode
- Supports large files
Why should I buy this over an aftermarket gtx 970?

For fuck sake. We need a containment bread/board for this shit. It's out of hand. 90% of the front page is AMD v. Nvidia fuckheads.
/g/ is officially dead.
Just give up and embrace nihilism. Mods won't care enough to make /consumer/
I 100% agree with this, but meta threads aren't going to fix anything
AMD are finished
I recently purchased an ibook G4 1.33 GHz. Does anyone have any recommends for what to use it for? I enjoy it I just cannot think of a way to use it.
>in b4 run xbuntu
run debian or some ancient version of OS X
>>55329976
why the shit did you buy one if you had no idea what to do with it???
go on the macintosh garden and find some shit for it, run tiger on it instead of leopard for better compatibility
You can't run Xubuntu, it doesn't have PPC builds. If I remember correctly, Mint does so you can start there. Your other alternative is to use a horrifyingly outdated and insecure version of OSX.
All that said, it's a piece of junk and you wasted your money. I worked on squeezing more life out of iBooks a while back and there's not much you can do. At best it's going to be a subpar Chromebook that isn't powerful enough to play YouTube.
Hey serious question a while back my iphone was hacked. Apple is such dick shit you cant even get it fixed at their store their method is to just reset the phone hope that it clears issue. Phone was still hacked after reset. The guy also simulated a fake apple e-mail fake case id everything looking legit even called my home line pretending to be an apple tech.
Police wouldnt do anything claiming since nothing was stolen or technically damaged then they wouldnt bother looking into it.
Fag would do stupid shit like run up my data usage block me from using apps stopped me...

I have an h110 50$ MSI mobo with a strix 960 of to1450mhz with a evga bronze 500 watt PSU. And I've never had a single problem with my mobo in the months I've been doing heavy gaming on it. In fact I've run doom on the highest settings and beat the game in one sitting. Wanna know how my mobo didn't melt

Complete noob question:
I want to start learning a programming language. I am between Python and Javascript. I know Javascript can be used to generate windows and buttons.
What other types of projects can each of these languages accomplish?
Go for JavaScript, python is so unintuitave and plus if you are a beginner try html5.
>>55329624
>Go for JavaScript, python is so unintuitave and plus if you are a beginner try html5.
Python can be used for many things such as programming rasberypis to do basically anything. Pyhton is also used a lot for math and science as well
JavaScript is mainly used in websites, I wouldn't learn it without looking at full web frameworks like MVC or ruby.
Python's good simple language. Not great syntax but can do most things.
I'd start on c# then move to c++ then on to what ever you want so you have a good grounding
hey everybody
I'd just like to thank you for hyping up the 480. Was able to pick up yet another 970 on craigslist, new in box, for half off. While I would have loved to buy the slightly more expensive 480 with 980-tier specs, this works well for me too.
Sincerely,
non-brandfag
>>55329414
Half off is a good price anon. Good buy.
>>55329414
i have the weirdest boner right now
thanks OP
Right now, I'm thinking of doing a similar thing and upgrading to a 970.
Someone explain to me why my hottest cores (#3 > 2 > 4 > 1 in that order) are the fastest performers compared to the cooler cores.
Also. I am fucking sick of my core variance. It throws me off hardcore since temp programs always report the hottest core, yet clearly my cooler should be able to keep my chip a lot colder as evidenced by the coldest core. I am thinking about lapping my heatsink and going bare die to see if this alleviates the situation. Any thoughts on this?
Don't be assholes. I'm counting on you /g/
>>55329238
>wet streets cause rain
Idiot.
>>55329263
Fuck off. I'm trying to figure out why there's such a huge discrepancy in performance from core to core. My 4.2ghz overclock is applied to the whole chip. I'm not getting this bullshit.
