R.I.P. AMD
R.I.P. RX480
You fucked up AMD.

>"With Tom's Hardware reporting that the RX 480 draws (substantailly) more than the 75W allowed from the motherboard (for example, the PCI Express high-power card spec allows a mazimum of 66W to be drawn from the 12V pins of the PCI Express slot, and the RX 480 averages79W from the 12V lines alone) AMD seems to be violating the PCI Express(R) spec.

So the mainboard 12V got an average of 82W but the GPU was drawing 164W peak?
2nd Kirchhoff's law disagrees.
>/gcg/
This is actually a big legal problem for AMD now, I wonder what they are going to do.
Not to mention I wonder how many motherboards this is going to damage and the lawsuits they may face from that.
Anyone who uploads a 2500x3000 4mb image to 4chan should be sodomized and castrated with the same knife.

Maybe if you're so poor your main focus should be getting a better job not mucking about with your OS.
I have pretty much, all the time, assumed it was true, everything else would no make sense for various espionage organizations.
But now it is documented:

What OS would you recommend for a CS student?
I´m thinking on a Windows/ dualboot, but I´m not sure what to put in the second place. Debian? Xubuntu? Arch?
I´ll be using a Thinkpad T420
>>55336606
you'll be able to do everything on gnu/linux unless they expect you to dev c#/.net code (in which case it might be doable but visual studio is literally the only reason to dev on windows) but if you can't you probably shouldn't be in cs
but I really would recommend a dualboot on an ssd
>>55336650
I regularly work with .NET/Mono on GNU+Linux and it's really not much of a problem.
Visual Studio Code / Atom / MonoDevelop are decent, Emacs works best for me.

PHP appreciation thread
I hate PHP. It's not intuitive and its standard library is a mess.
That's as far as my "appreciation" for PHP will go.
>>55336637
>standard library
But PHP has no standard library.
>>55336600
Stick to php7, use composer and good libs, and PHP is pretty comfy :3

What would you use a home server for? /g/ answer - Fuck you, you turbo autist! Simple answer - For whatever you want. From media to development to virtualization, options abound.
Power - Any server DDR2 based is going to be power hungry. Most multi-socket Intel DDR2 systems are FBDIMM based. Anything else is ECC. With DDR3 based units coming off 2nd lease, anything DDR2 should be avoided.
Plex - 1080p transcoding at 10MBPS requires a CPUMark score of ~2000 per stream. This is especially true with first generation i3/5/7 / DDR3 Xeons. The more recent...

For my home, yes.

>We skipped long-term overclocking and overvolting tests, since the Radeon RX 480’s power consumption through the PCIe slot jumped to an average of 100W, peaking at 200W. We just didn’t want to do that to our test platform.
>Believe it or not, the situation gets even worse. AMD's Radeon RX 480 draws 90W through the motherboard’s PCIe slot during our stress test. This is a full 20 percent above the limit.
BLUNDER OF THE CENTURY
what the fuck were they thinking?
>>55336454
I guess it's too much for AMD to make a decent product. And after all that hype and promises. Fuck them
>>55336454
What do you expect from AMD, Every time there's something new from AMD, people jump on the bandwagon and say it's gonna be great. I really hoped this card would be good, I still use the 7970, which is think is one of the best cards since the 8800 from Nvidia.
Everyone else too lazy to make a new thread edition

Damn small linux. Only faggots need any more.

Every live distro does that. You can even create a persistent storage, if you want.

It is good. Idk if it will ever replace C fully for a lot of reasons but it is a good language by itself
