Why is the architecture and ecosystem of Android so objectively shit (coming from someone who loves their Nexus 4 + CM 12.1)?
With 0 patches to the majority of Android devices, I'm waiting for a repeat of Blaster on Windows XP where one security problem ends up taking out the majority of Android devices. Again, it'll be worse than XP's security because there will be no way to fix those devices.
Why does every Android device need their own customised image/OS? Why can't it be similar to Windows where one OS image can run on pretty much every x86 PC? Google could push out OS updates in a much more sane fashion.
If carriers/manufacturers want to theme and customise, allow them to deploy a device specific customisation package that can be updated independently of the OS and can be removed at will.
Google needs to put their foot down and make everyone step up their shit if they are to avoid an inevitable security armageddon.
>>51265380
until that happens i'm not buying another android device, to be honest.
>>51265380
i agree phones and android need to be made in a way that is more 'generic', that is, one image should work on most phones of the same architecture
that alone would help staying up to date a lot
>>51265406
that's just silly, that's like vowing never to use windows again because some people still run windows xp
do like myself and op do, get a phone with 3rd party support like from CM, and keep it up to date yourself
>>51265508
My phone can handle the newest CM 12.1, but it's really buggy and has bad battery life, or so I've heard.
I run XP on my PC, too, t.bh.
Use TOR they said, it's safe they said.
Nobody said that.
You have to be fool if think anything safe from the prying eyes of the NSA.
No one ever claimed Tor would prevent the exit node from seeing what's in your data stream.
Anybody owning a Huawei phone? Is it good? How's your experience with it? I'm considering buying Honor 7, mostly for everyday, non-power usage, various apps I need for public transportation web and video browsing, taking pictures and that sums it up, since I'm not into mobile gaming any bit. Would you recommend it? Share your Huawei experiences, I'm eager to hear it
Recently bought Mate S. Switched over from iPhone 6, not complaints so far, excellent phone.
Honor 7 is pretty close stats wise, so in my opinion its worth getting.
>>51265187 I couldnt hear any complaints either about it, its just that its not a gamer phone and thats all. Thanks for the reply
Does the nexus 6p count? Pretty gud
Guys how do I know which drivers should I install and which not?
Do i use some software like HWiNFO64 to recognise exactly what parts do I have or just install everything?
I don't want to make mess in PC after new Windows installation already
>>51264854
Just let windows 10 install them automatically :)
>>51264854
Just jumping in to ask if I can install AMD drivers and Nvidia drivers no the same systems, I don't game I just need them for multi monitor...
thanks lads

Although it is recommended to install a Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes", it is better to try the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a full Linux experience.
If you are serious about switching to Linux and if you have Windows dual-booted (recommended for pure newbies), use it exclusively for 2 weeks, avoid Windows dual booting for that period of time, or it's likely you will start retreating back to windows instead...

Anyone thinking that ARM isn't going to pass up x86 within the next 5 years is lying to themselves.
ARM is going to catch up speedwise, and you will start seeing more ARM laptops and low-end Facebook PCs. Which are most of the desktop sales. Normies just need the Internet and Office, which has been developed for iOS and Android.
Android & Apple TV boxes are just starting to become popular. The newest Tegra platform is already at Xbox 360/PS3 levels of power at a $200 price point. It's only a matter of time before they deprecate consoles.

Whats wrong with core m?
ARMv8 based cores already have caught up to mobile X86. Surpassing high performance X86 is an entirely different matter.

Real TDP is significantly higher than intel lists, and it throttles extremely hard under even moderate workloads. 1ghz or 1.1ghz base clock for a lot of parts, burst turbo on some can reach around 2.7ghz, but for fractions of a second. Under heavy workloads they can drop down to 800mhz. CPU+GPU workloads are a disaster.
Isn't ARM basically a follow-up of PowerPC? Also it's all up to Apple, Windows and Intel if ARM is going to make it as a mainstream PC architecture. Not to mention Adobe and Autodesk.
Ever since people realised that raw C is too basic for mid-level programming two languages were quickly invented, C++ and Objective-C
Both have strengths and weaknesses. In common they fix C's missing features by adding object orienting and automatic memory management and other features.
Which do you prefer? Which do you use? What do you hate about C++ and love about Objective-C, or vice versa? Which do you consider the bester?
>>51264609
Obj-C is slower than Java
C++ is so ugly it makes me throw up
C is the base of everything, there's no need for OO or messages based paradigm bullshits.

>adding automatic memory management
what

>Obj-C is slower than Java
Really? Never heard that one before, but then I've not done more than dabble with either.
Strongly agree with your other two points, however. C++ offends my retinas, and OO is hardly the silver bullet everybody seems to think it is. Like Yossi Kreinin says, where using C++ is an option, using C is probably a better option.

Asus just announced a 10Gbps NIC.
http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/asus-launches-rog-10g-express-10gbps-ethernet-expansion-card.html
Will we finally see consumer grade 10 GbE?
You can say there is no point for that at home, but why create inferior products when we have the ability to produce something better?
>buying stuff made by ASUCKS
i'll move to 10GbE when it's about as cheap as GbE is now, i can max out GbE with mass transfers already
interesting that they'd slap 'gaming' marketing on it though, as if gaming needs anywhere near that kind of bandwidth
Asus is literally the cancer, every brand that isn't Asus is just better
Why the fuck does an Asus X99 Deluxe cost as much as a MSI X99 XPower AC or more than a Gigabyte SOC Champion when it is literally absolutely shit in comparison?

Ask your fucking parents for the details?
Presumably you are an adult, this shouldn't even be an issue.
I just got a new job, and they're giving me a work desktop for my office. I'm allowed to install any operating system I want. Obviously I can't be trusted to make such an important decision, so I'm leaving it to you.
Doubles decides what OS I install on my work computer.
Only two rules:
1) It has to be some kind of Linux. I'd be open to some kind of BSD too, but apparently I'll be working in the Linux kernel, so I'm going to stick with Linux for now.
2) It has to be "usable". I use that word very loosely though....

If you choose anything else, you are asking for trouble.
I doubt any of you can help me out with this but last week I bought a 2016 Chevy Cruze, fully loaded. I was looking into the things I could do with the onboard Chevy MyLink OS and I came across Apple Carplay. I updated my iPhone 6s+ to the newest firmware and plugged my phone into the car's USB port. All of the video's I've watch the CarPlay just pops up on the phone and the UI of the car but mine doesn't do anything. I go into the Carplay settings on my phone and it tells me to hold down my push to talk button on my steering wheel and the car and phone literally...
