as a young child I was obsessed with taking things apart, I took apart a CRT monitor and played with what was inside.
I should be dead.

You mean tech help fucking faggot. What you do has nothing to do with engineering
You probably have a degree in psychology. Just kill yourself
>>51654800

Been unemployed for a while eh?
Actually I have a degree in Electronics engineering and Telecommunications.
I am not tech help. I have to look after server/network infrastructure and Support Engineer is my official position name I didn't make it up.
What does /g/ use? Currently using Windows Media Player because PC got wiped
>pic unrelated
I use clementine
It's not perfect, but it's good enough
>>51653435
I use MPV because I can do--audio-pitch-correction=no --speed=1.1and listen to more music per unit time. As a bonus it also compensates for only having moderately sized speakers that struggle with very deep bass. I don't listen to music with singing so there is no drawback.
Server: Music Player Daemon (MPD)
Raw CLI client: Music Player Client (MPC)
NCurses CLI client: Music Player Client Plus Plus (ncmpcpp)
Android client app: (MPDroid)
What do you prefer, MPC-HC, the trusted choice of /g/entlemen, or MPV, the next /g/eneration?
Also, why do you prefer one to the other? Anecdotes encouraged actually.
Bomi just werks.
I use mpv because it doesn't ruin picture quality like madvr or mpdn by default with their performance hacks.
It's much faster for the similar settings too.
And I really prefer mpv unofficial gui like baka-mplayer or bomi than mpdn, mpc-hc or potplayer.
You can use vapoursynth with mpv, this is much better than madvr image enhancement.
Unfortunately it's pretty long to configure on windows, still better than avisynth with deprecated ffdshow.
SMPlayer frontend + MPlayer
I don't give enough of a shit to try anything else.
I'm getting a 1TB drive but I don't think I'd fill even a 500 GB one.

Hey /g/ finished building my PC. Specs are:
I5 6600k
MSI 960 4gb
16gb DDR4
1 TB Western Digital hard drive
Asus Z170 a
Cooler Master hyper 212 evo
Corsair carbide spec 01
Win 10
It's my first build and my main regret is no ssd but overall good system might do some benchmarking once I've reinstalled all my stuff.

Should've gone for the fucking AMD there.

It seems that in 2011-2012 Valve had some ideas about Linux gaming in living room, in 2013 they started making a fuss about it, but then something seems to have gotten their attention and they kept only little to none people/resources/effort to develop SteamOS and Steam Machines and Steam Controller.
It has been few weeks since whole project was officially released (even after some delays and Valve-time in effect), and it doesn't seem to be taking off properly.
I major bottleneck I see is OEM variety and support. Currently there is pisspoor selection with awful price/performance...

>OEMs already bailed out with some excuse
Is that "some excuse" usually one of the same things that were part of the vicious cycle which http://rbt.asia/g/post/41160055 told about long ago?
Steam machines were always doomed to failure. Valve doesn't know anything about consoles and now they have their own resting in the console graveyard
Hi /g/, I've come to you to ask for guidance.
I've built a PC before, but I just used a guide online (it was for someone else.) My uncle gave me his computer for my birthday, it's a custom build, though not well done.
While shipping the computer the videocard (GPU?) was damaged, and so the screen was wonky. I got UPS to replace it, but they gave me a very different (Much much smaller) part. I want to upgrade my PC to play Fallout 4, but I'm not sure what to buy.
I'm not sure how to check my parts list, though device manager lists...

A graphics card is a GPU, yes. Download Speccy and post a screenshot so we can see your specs.

install Speccy, it is a useful tool to check temps/hardware
take a screenshot of the specs, that'll give us more useful information

What do you guys think about https://morph.is/v0.8/ ?
>>51652960
The site doesn't seem to explain its full featureset clearly at a glance, but it looks like it is trying to be the successor of freenet, except without anonymity (namely, you upload content to the network, rather than nodes requesting content from you). If they solved the capacity limit issue, might be cool.

Daily reminder, Linux is meme OS that is only suitable for desktops. It has the worst cpu scaling and battery utilization of all time when it comes to laptops and mobile devices.
Eh no. I get the same 8 hour battery life on both windows and lunnucks.

All these crypto locker threads got me thinking about times dumb tech mistakes I've made. What major tech fuck ups have you caused and what did you learn from them?

One time I rooted my wife's tablet and installed a third-party keyboard then deleted the stock keyboard. 2 weeks later the tablet froze and I had to factory reset it and lost the goddamn keyboard.

I am.
Suse is super stable as long as you don't use anything more thanzypper patchor the software update from the dropdown arrow in the panel.
It's just so fucking slow and bloated. It takes ~20 sec to boot, compared to 3 on my Arch/cinnamon install. It's like vista all over again.
I love yast, but fuck that.
