Hey /g/ finished building my PC. Specs are:
I5 6600k
MSI 960 4gb
16gb DDR4
1 TB Western Digital hard drive
Asus Z170 a
Cooler Master hyper 212 evo
Corsair carbide spec 01
Win 10
It's my first build and my main regret is no ssd but overall good system might do some benchmarking once I've reinstalled all my stuff.

>960
Should've gone for the fucking AMD there.
>no SSD
Dear lord.
>960
Lol

Don't listen to this person please
>Should've gone for the fucking AMD there.
This is not helpful, you're just a fanboy
>>51653195
How is chosing a more powerful card for the same money being a fanboy?
>>51653224
How is going for AMD more powerful?
>>51652975
This entire thread should';ve been posted in the /guts/ thread.

You haven't taken in considerations that AMD has
1. Rubbish drivers
2. Overheats much more
3. Much louder
4. Uses around twice as much power
5. and having over 4GB of vram is pointless for gaming
>>51653195
960 cant even beat 270x.
Only card worth a shit from current nVidia is 980Ti.

people never stop complaining, you get something in a good price to performance range then people complain you get shit. Then you go for like a 980ti then people complain blah blah wait few months for new cards

Let me tell you my experience, going from an ASUS GTX 770 2GB OC, to a XFX R9 390.
>my 770 requires a 6+8 pin (200W+ power consumption), gets HOT AS FUCK (83c when 84C is throttle limit), and LOUD AS FUCK (literally a jet engine)
>heard of all the "AMD DRIVERS ARE BAD MEMES" on /g/ + the housefire memes
>still decide to purchase a 390
>card comes in, i take it out of the box, its super nice, i proceed to put in the PC
>install drivers
>crimson drivers opens instantly, unlike Geforce experience or the geforce control panel
>start up a game, put everything on ultra - it runs fine. I check the temps - the XFX is on 60C with the fans on 40% and i can barely hear it.
>consumes just as much power as my 770
>stays cooler and quieter
>runs better
Yeap, AMD sure is bad.
nice build OP. 6600k overclocks extremely well and good choice with the 212 evo. its an amazing cooler. its cheap but has the cooling power of $50 - $60 coolers. toss on an extra fan you have laying around for push / pull and get extra cooling for free.
the 960 is a decent low end card. amd does have better offerings in the same price range in terms of raw power. with windows 10 both amd and nvidia have equal quality of drivers, which are both terrible. i speak as someone who has a 980 ti.
overall nice build. slap a ssd in there later on for game storage and you be flying.
should've gone for less ram and better graphics card

you never win. /g is like /v, they hate everything.
when pascal comes out you will have a flooding of people laughing at people getting pascal and calling them idiots for not waiting for volta.

why even live.
@51653022, and thread
This right here.
@OP
You bought a shitty GPU to go with a pretty expensive CPU.
You have DDR 4 RAM, and an i5 crippled by a slow HDD.
@51653714
why are you using @

>>51653195
It is an objective fact that the 970 is in inferior product compared to what AMD offers at the same price point, specifically the R9 390. Performance-wise the two cards are identical, but the R9 390 contains twice as much VRAM, and AMD don't feel the need to misrepresent the card's capabilities, unlike NVIDIA.
I just built more or less the exact same system but with a second hand 290 and an SSD.
Not bad OP. As another anon pointed out Skylake overclocks great. An SSD is cool to have but by no means essential.
Is this for games?
Should've got a 970.
I feel like you under spent on the gpu. I like something like 35% of the total budget for it.
Why isnt Intel making processors base clock on 4.5 or even higher like 5 ghz so I wont be needing to overclock anymore?
I plan to get a 4790k but not overclock it so PC life would be like 8-10 years.
>>51657871
Why get a 4790k and not overclock? It's easy as shit to overclock, and if you do it right doesn't really hurt the lifespan.
My 4790k is at 4.7ghz and 1.288 volts, and runs nice and cold.
>>51652975
You will regret not having an ssd until you get an ssd
>>51657871
If you going to use for 10 years just go for 5820k. More cores vs hyperthreading.
>>51653286
The driver thing is true (from when i've last used AMD), but the GFlops/s are like twice as much on a 390x vs a 970.
