Daily reminder, Linux is meme OS that is only suitable for desktops. It has the worst cpu scaling and battery utilization of all time when it comes to laptops and mobile devices.
>>
Eh no. I get the same 8 hour battery life on both windows and lunnucks.
You're doing something wrong.
>>

Prove it. I have done my research, there is no solution to this problem and the devs acknowledge its existence.

Your battery is dying. When my first 6-cell was worn out, it gave 36 min tops. New one goes 9hrs idle, 7hrs on load.

9-cell? Every fucking distro I tried on my laptops has given pathetic output, the worst being Gnome 3.

>>51652181
Nigga plz, Ubuntu 15.10 barely lasts 4hrs on 100% charge with tlp and 20% brightness.
>>
>>51652162
You manually scaled down your CPU frequency to an absolute minimum. OP screenshot is without any forced CPU scaling which is what most Linux distros come by default.
>>
>>51652203
Yeah, 9cell T420.
>>
I can get around 4 hours with my bloated KDE5 and default-set tlp install compared to 3 hours on Windows 10 with Battery Saver.

Windows is just shit.
>>
>>51652237
Mine is 6-cell and that screencap is without cpu scaling. If I tweak my Windows 10 settings and adjust GPU/CPU with power saving mode, I can squeeze close to 10 hrs on a 6-cell battery.

Linux does not even offer me those options in GUI, the battery monitor is a joke.

>>51652246
If you want to lie, at least be convincing. KDE and Gnome are battery destroyers with so much bloat and background processes running.

same here, my laptop was constantly plugged in with the battery full, it died in one year and a half, now it only gives me about 15 minutes before giving out and shutting down my PC without a warning.
New battery still going on after two years, giving me at its best 4 hours. I still let my PC plugged when I can, but as soon as my battery is full, I remove it. This is the best way I found to keep it safe, and well, it proves effective.
>>
>>51652280
Yes, and Windows 10 is so pure and clean of background processes.
I can probably get both to 6 hours by slimming down on services/daemons and fucking with kernel configs to lower interrupts and wakeups, but what's the point, it's a 17" laptop and it's always plugged

Your OS/DE are literally a command prompt with no visible processes or applications running. You have stripped down the entire functionality of your OS for minimalism trade off.

In the end, your distro is a useless toy that can't be used for any practical work. People who use laptops outside their basement have intensive applications to run like Office 365, CAD and Adobe software.

Your piece of shit distro can't even run those applications.

So what are the merits of using your shitty OS?

Windows has no working terminal and the file system is antique.

It is a pain in the ass to do any sort of web development on Windows. Their font rendering is the worst in the market.

Windows hides a lot of stuff in the registry which makes many common tasks a real pain.

Windows takes the control away from the user and replaces it with spyware.

Battery dies out fast for some of these reasons:

1. not draining it completely once a month at least to calibrate it properly for charge/discharge

2. running CPU/GPU intensive applications and games on battery for extended periods of time

3. constantly exposing battery to high temperatures without proper cooling tray underneath your laptop

4. using a shitty charger that is not properly regulating current or charging your laptop from a UPS source.
>>
>>51652766
Whatever, believe it or not. It's the truth.
I do wonder whether it would have been the same if my installation wasn't as minimal as it is, though. It's not like there aren't fancy effects or as if it's barebones, I work with it daily nowadays and have no problems, but I just in general tried to use lightweight and fast apps when I installed the system (no DE, awesome as WM, spacefm as file manager, urxvt as the terminal and mostly run with urxvtc, firefox is literally the only exception), whereas I didn't have such an option with Windows 8. It probably makes up for the driver problems.

Other free by not, was useful to system components in a shell, the components of the GNU system, it it is a utility that has been defined, there is a POSIX normal OS, GNU corelibs, namely, that of Linux is set to complete to be important, but it is its own operating system does seem to be fully operational.

Without realizing it, many computer users, please run a modified version of the GNU system every day. It is widely, in many cases, if it is not recognized through the call in a characteristic pattern of events, it has many "Linux" user and GNU system version GNU, I developed've used today and the GNU project basically I is possible.

Part of a system that uses itself, if you are using it, Linux these people actually exist therein. Linux is the kernel: the machine, allocate resources to other programs that you run the program on the system. Not only is an integral part of the operating system, it is in the kernel, it is possible to work in the context of a complete operating system itself, and you may be useful. Linux is used in combination with the GNU operating system in general. The GNU Linux based and must be added to the whole system, it has been is GNU / Linux. , So-called, it is also the distribution of the GNU / Linux is a distribution of all called "Linux" really.

Default windows or OS X on a laptop that's not literally brand new is slow and laggy compared to linux because of that battery saving.

Linux defaults to fast because its users (developers and server admins) need fast by default. There's no magic "hardcore CPU scaling that gets in your way" toggle switch in the GUI, but that doesn't matter because linux isn't for normies, and most users don't configure scaling to be as severe as it is on say, OS X aka throttleOS, because they can't stand the thought of their computer being fucking slow.

You live in the first world. Use the outlets, luke. Everywhere you would use a laptop there is a power outlet.

You're also installing an OS for a completely different demographic and expecting it to be for normies that think it's the coolest thing ever to browse facebook on the couch

99% of "professional developers" are actually making the world worse with shitty bloated proprietary software and more web apps that take control and computational efficiency away from the user like proprietary trash never could

1% are 30 year veterans that develop algorithms instead of python and C# "apps and use erlang or ocaml as their neckbeard language instead of C or lisp
