Why does somebody even consider C a decent language? It is just a fucking relic from another time and not usable at all in the current time.
It is deprecated and should not be used anymore.
>>51723380
I write firmware and driver support (Windows and Linux) for a living. C is lingua franca in this area, and that's not going to change any time soon in near future.
>>51723380
>Let's just run everything on a VM or in an interpreter! That'll make things safer!
they tried that with Java, look how it turned out

If you do open source contributions, there are several desktop utilities reliant on it.

This time. This time I'm getting in.
To those who solve puzzle 1, hold on to your results. Those who share are removed.
Someone from the 19 comment on what happens to you? The website says RIP matbee now...
Why do so many large businesses and unit's use these shit tier things instead of buying actual computers? They are slow af.
its cheaper to buy thin clients and connect them to your VM infrastructure / invest money in your vm infrastructure
You don't need a "fast" PC for Excel and Word, anon.
>>51723348
Cheap
Less maintenance
When was the last time you made an improvement to your free software, /g?/

A couple of months ago

Not mine though. All ours
>>51723030
I say "your" because you don't have to share your improvements with anyone else
I don't see what's changed, though, you still only have 2 doors, one of which could be a car and one of which could be a goat?
old thread: >>51718146
secret saika butt fun edition!
What are you working on, /g/?
Honestly I don't get why tripfags even exist.
Unless you've done something worthwhile and everyone knows who you are, you're not important enough to have a trip.
So drop it, Ruby.
>>51723004
wrong thread?
Why Google still allows Adblock on Chrome?
>>51722955
>cost
it doesn't cost anything to block ads
Theres an old saying that goes "its not profit till its in my pocket"
>>51722955
>ad block is stealing revenue
If it wasn't ad block then I'll just not install flash so all those flash based ads go away
If it wasn't flash based, then I won't install java and ads that rely on java extension will go away
if it wasn't flash based and its HTML5 based or what ever then I'll just block the extension from running by adding the server to a black list
oh am I stealing then because I did manually what every fucking ad block...

So I'm looking to build a moderately future proof gaming pc for around $800 USD any suggestions?
>>51722899
Google logical increments.
Then decide your budget, and do a little research.
Better off buying an xbox
Please help!
Built a new pc (only salvaged from my old build: the psu and the old lcd monitor)
The problem is when i have a game running the screen flickers.. its playable but annoying.
This does not happend when a game is not running
Why ? Is it because im using a old VGA cable?
yeah it sounds like an issue with your video cable. dont know why it would only happen during gaming but give it a try. a $5 fix is better than a $200 one.

Could the grafics card be dead ?
>>51723050
maybe, although if you havent been using it that intensively i dont see it being likely. try using the integrated graphics for something and see if the blinking stops.
Should I keep windows 10 or reinstall windows 7? Just got a new laptop.
I really don't like windows 10, but everyone is telling me not to "downgrade".
bump.
Really? Nothing?
You all are so fucking useless.
>>51722916
If you're not having issues with W10 just keep it.
>>51722580
Install Gentoo.

can someone tell me why notfify-send only works if I run it with sudo/as root?
if I run it as a normal user, it runs without complaint but it doesn't actually show a notification.
>>51722583
oops meant to post this in sqt
sorry /r/dpt
Why did you?
Do you regret it?
I didn't.
I regret this.
My only regret is wasting the best years of my life on this website. High School was fucking shit and my small-town administration had it out for my family.
>>51722676
This
I stuck in there and completed my degree on overtime
It didn't make me happy
It didn't land me a better job
I wish I had just dropped out after the bachelor's, I wouldn't be half as depressed as I am now
How come most CS majors don't know shit about CS?
ooga booga wea da java inheritance at
they don't have time for video games
>>51722324
because most CS majors are smug fucks that think they're 1337 h4x0rs and all they do is find ways to cheat in their tests, rather than to solve a problem. They think that the internet has everything, so they don't have to learn the material right now and that when they get hired, they can just google it and learn it.
I have a challenge for Parrot Fuckers AKA Linux Users
Post a screen shot of linux that is
A: Good looking with a consistent design
B: User friendly for the typical normie
And no, borderless windows are not user friendly
>>51722287
Stallman would be very angry to hear that you associate him with "Linux"
>>51722344
Sorry stallman
"GNU/Linux"
Cyber security general? What are some good resources online for learning things like reverse engineering, cryptography, pentesting, etc
bumping for interest
Why do useless people always think "cyber security" is an easy meal ticket?
Unless you mean running script kiddie shit with your kali linux, you have to learn software development before you can reverse engineer. Learning crypto means a lot of advanced math, logic, and some programming skills to learn.
Sorry to bust your bubble but it sounds like you watched too much CSI
bump for interest

This is /g/. I assume the ones that aren't smartphone shills have already taken a C/C++ course, multiple calculus courses and other logic related courses.
Why is Ubuntu with Unity so hated?
- Based on Debian, so you know it's good
- Best font rendering out of any distro, Infinality won't save you
- Fast and stable, with a ton of programs and a very polished package manager
- Developed and maintained by an actual company that's working towards improving Linux, not a handful of people who do it as a hobby
- Supported by large companies like Valve and is used as the only distribution that Valve tests, ports and plays it's games on. Also has the largest number of video card driver options as well as the best drivers available out of the box.
>>51722077
Because everyone in here needs something to complain about.
Ubuntu is fine.
>>51722077
>Based on Debian, so you know it's good
Has nothing to do with Unity

Has nothing to do with Unity.
So to summarise for you:
>Why is Ubuntu with Unity so hated?
Because Unity is evil as in a soul sucking demon in software form.
>>51722077
Ubuntu is fine if you like it. However, I prefer Fedora so that's what I use.
