While or from? Bit torrent grabs readily available chunks out of order when downloading. You can tell it to download sequentially, but this greatly slows things down. You can use VLC to stream the video. It doesn't complain if the video isn't complete.

there are none. Both laptops are very reliable. I have a T420 and kind of makes me wish I had bought a Dell Precision in it's place. Don't get me wrong, the Thinkpad is a workhorse, but the overall build quality of EliteBook or Precision just seems so much better.

Thinkpads have amazing keyboards. I can vouch for that.
The Dell Precision has a great touch pad. Slightly large than most laptops and supports multi finger input. (Dual finger scrolling, swipe gestures to a limited extent, etc) Granted this was me looking at the M4800.
HP stuff seems to be just an all around good laptop. Not great, not terrible, but with emphasis on build quality and serviceability. One could almost call it "boring" if you get what I mean. Fast when you need it to be, plain...

Anyway I acted like a normy and googled best routers. Well I got some things like the latest nighthawk and some Asus ones. I looked at their amazon reviews and while they were top rated by users and the site glorifying the device like it was God, there were plenty of other reviews stating they were complete trash and stuff like that. I don't know who to trust.

My Moto X 2014 isn't loud enough when I'm listening to music in my car. I don't know what it is, but when I have the volume maxed on the phone and car, its equivalent to an iPhone at about 25%. As a solution, I thought a FiiO E10K would be a good option since it's decently priced and has some pretty good reviews. It's an Amp/DAC, so would it solve my volume issue? Am I doing something stupid and noobish if I ran a 3.5mm from my phone to the amp, then a 3.5mm...

Oh, to add, my Moto X 2014 was purchased through Verizon, so I can't root it and just up the maximum volume. Verizon locked the bootloader and I've yet to see a workaround.

So, I've been using a mac for a couple years now and at work I'm a systems administrator for a large university campus and state-wide network.
I just now started using Time Machine at home to backup my computers, and holy shit, it's so resource efficient during the backup that I have 3 computers doing it simultaneously and not a single slowdown over the network, and the backup speed is acceptable. I'm backing up 136gb from one, 154gb from another, and 89gb from the other.
I literally have a full, encrypted, incremental disk image backup of each computer and to boot it's a hybrid of a system image, and shadow copies. Something that in Windows you need to make a separate disk image backup (and if you want that automatically you need to make scheduled tasks), and turn on shadow copies which take up more disk space, not ideal for SSD's, which these computers are. The backup medium is a 1tb 7200rpm sata 3 drive in a mac mini.

You can hardly use your computer during a windows backup because it prioritises it equally with all other processes, and the network scheduling leaves much to be desired when you can't even connect to a website or browse your LAN because it's tying up the stack.

How long before we have e-ink displays that aren't tiny (12"-15") and are reasonably priced? Monochrome is fine.
Once such a thing is readily available, it should be possible to build a minimal linux laptop with that display and a cheap ARM SoC. It'd be super comfy to code on without a bright backlight attacking your eyes and if paired with a normal laptop battery it'd probably last weeks without needing a charge.
I'd really like to try building at least a prototype of something like that but all I can find is shitty little 9.7"...

That's the best idea ever, family. I had something like that in my mind too, building a tablet/laptop with a BeagleBone or similar, like they did with the Pi (it's called PiTop or whatever).
Using an e-ink display might just make it the perfect device!
I don't know where you can get bigger displays, but what about using 2 of them side-by-side?
Also, IIRC, the kobo e-readers run some kind of linux which you can easily hack and install you own programs. You could try that out

Sony makes a 13inch display e-reader, but I haven't seen it under $700.
A heavily ruggedized (think waterproof, shockproof, resistant to small calibre handgun rounds) fully wireless (wireless ac, bt, wireless charging) and a color e-paper display (think pebble time) would be awesome.
HR is breathing down my neck and threatening to fire me over web surfing I haven't done. They're using hearsay from "other developers" to make this claim.
How should I capture my screen every five minutes and store them read-only somewhere? I want cryptographically secure proof HR is lying. I don't think I'll get a lawyer involved, but at the least I want to prove they're firing me over "culture fit," not something that'll bite me if a future employer starts calling.

One of my coworkers once claimed I was stealing supplies. It was hearsay and they had zero evidence, but after I quit everyone thought I had been fired for theft. It didn't matter that neither of these things were true. Once people start gossiping you're already fucked. Just quit gracefully and find something else.
I have a Compaq Mini, Intel Atom, 2G RAM, 160G Hard Disk. I want to install a lite linux distro because I tried with Ubuntu, OpenSuse,and Mint and they run very slow. Now it has Lubuntu and goes fine but the menu on LibreOffice and other software are messy, the chars of those menues items melt each other. So as a fag who does not know much about lite distros I ask you for any recommendation.
