Thoughts Windows 10 vs Windows 8.1 performance-wise? Want to know how much of a resource hog w10 is before I considering switching.
Bumping for interest.
Wrong board.
/v/eddit is the other way
>>52104294
seems to me like 10 is pretty much 8.1 with a tweaked ui, more like win 8.2. Performance seems the same
I plan on selling my laptop of 5 years onto ebay in a few weeks.
I am going to factory-reset it before I ship it, but should I really be concerned about someone digging deep within my hard drive and finding my information? Is that even possible?
I would imagine that the average ebay customer wouldn't think to do something like that, but if I can do any precautionary methods to ensure that it wouldn't happen I will.
I would zero-out the hard drive.
>>52104182
Would that also wipe out the operating system (win7)?
Also, my hard drive is in a unique position where it was partitioned by the factory. Would this method take care of both partitions?
>>52104287
you could always just remove the hard drive
Is the surface pro 4 worth its price?
I may or may not get the i5/256/8 version.
But it is expensive as fuck (~ 1500$/€ including the keyboard).
Does anyone have one? Is it good?
Are there any good features apart from the onenote-meme-app?
is it /g/ approved?
No.
Good choice.
You mean excluding.
Yes. Yes, save for some minor hiccups.
Not particularly, it has all features expected of a win 10 machine and then the tricks with the pen.
I doubt that it is.
I have an SP3. I'll be buying the SP4 keyboard and continue using it until the SP5 comes out.
It's a luxury item and you can probably get something with the same specs from a cheaper brand.
The screen, pen, and keyboard are probably the top selling points. I got mine as an upgrade from a tablet Thinkpad and I'm happy with it. It's smaller, lighter and less fuss to switch between tablet and laptop mode.
The main complaint is the resolution makes some things (looking at you, SAI) unusable if they don't support DPI scaling. Buttons are literally too small to click. It's also 3:2 which is awkward if you play games, and you'll have black bars on most video.
I've always wondered about Tor. You always hear about the deep web and how it's a hive of drug sales, cp and fat white men claiming to be hitmen for hire. And how it's completely anonymous and no one can ever get caught and it will stop the NSA spook men from spiriting you away due to your love of searching info about fertilizer and Mohammad.
But it's funded by the government. And I'm pretty sure that shit like the silk road and the occasional take down of drug and illegal content distributors proves it's not foolproof. I've even heard...

We probably all are somewhere in a watch list I remember something from Snowden's leaked docs that everyone who visited www.linuxjournal.com was listed as an extremist or something.

I heard a while back there was an exploit in Tor that broke your anonymity. But if you use common sense you can pretty much stay anonymous. The deep web isn't what it's cracked up to be. I heard about all the stories and decided to dive in myself and check it out, and I was so disappointed.
I don't think tor alone is enough anymore, you can't ever truly be anonymous but you can try to get to as close to it as possible. Doing stuff like whonix in a VM with a host operating system such as qubes then use the whonix workstation to browse using tor. On top of that you would need to use random public hotspots for wifi and connect to a trusworthy VPN for extra security. It'd be a nightmare to track down all of that stuff. Then just encrypt all your stuff or force it into RAM when you load it somehow and it'll get wiped after you end your session.
Not...

Alright /g/ I don't usually ask for help on this board but I'm trying to connect my computer or even my phone to my smart tv so that it streams whatever is on my screen.
I use Acestream on my PC to watch live sport for free, however there's no app for it on the Smart TV (Samsung) so I'm trying to find a way if I could launch the app on my PC, and then stream/cast it to my Smart TV so I could watch it in the living room.
It's kind of urgent, let me know if you know any way of connecting it like this.

I didn't buy the TV.
I could do it the old way and connect it via HDMI to my PC but I'm not moving my PC downstairs everytime I want to watch something lol.
>>52103644
You can't, smart tvs are a gimmick and a botnet.
Should have bought this instead.
12 h of ''updating'' and still nothing.
it's a LG Spirit 4G LTE H440N, what should I do?
Restart and try again
>>52103353
Good thing I had it rooted and it refused to do the upgrade.
>>52103353
go buy a good gun, not a cheap one, and shoot right into your own face
Welcome to the botnet.

I want to get a cheap laptop for watching videos, doing school work and such. I was thinking of getting an Acer 13 Chromebook (Tegra K1, 4gb RAM).
What are /g/'s experiences with Chromebooks?

I have one that costed 150€, for that price they are worth it.
They are literally shit posting/porn devices unless you install Linux
>mfw I almost pulled the trigger on a mechanical keyboard.
I do nothing but typing stuff (shitposts, code, thesis) with my keyboard and I almost spend a hundred buck in a tool I don't need to enter some internet hype on an anonymous image board.
Why do you have a gun on your desk anon.

Applications that empty your wallet unnecessarily.

Tried teh Gear VR in store yesterday. Fucking dog shit was better than this. Same quality as the Cardboard, but with some awkward touchscreen on the right side.
What went wrong?
It's still in its infant stage no matter what they want you to think, but VR is the real next big thing no matter what. There's just nowhere to go but there.
>>52102202
another thing that bothered me...you can always tell that you're not "in" the VR because you cant see above the lower part of your forehead or below your nose.
Also, the resolution was so bad holy shit
