that's on ultra.
you can lower it to console quality and get like 300fps.

That benchmarks says you can run it fine with a 250 dollar card, a r9 290

Wtf am I looking at
I'm gunna start college this year and my graduation gift is a laptop up to $1000.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I want the absolute best I can get for a grand.
My focuses are on being good for programming and gaming.
>>53524599
yeah, buy a used rMBP 13". I'm a CS major and almost everyone in my class has a variation of it. every prof has one too. there's few people with ASUS laptops running linux as well but rMBP is so much nicer.
What you're asking for is tech support. You must be new here so I'll explain: /g/ is not for tech support or your personal consumer review site. We have a separate board dedicated to tech support.
That board is >>>/wsr/
Now if you would kindly delete this thread and post it on /wsr/ I would be more than happy to help you.

Get either a Thinkpad,or a Toughbook,or a Alienware. I know these ones are good, even if the last one is quite fancy. They all do their job,and can be good for gaming. Oh,and never get a MBP. It's utter shit,I had to work with one. Complete garbage.
I know Windows 10 is bad, but why? My friend is going to install it and I want to know what to tell him to stop him. However, he needs it put in simple, dumb words so his not-smart brain can understand it.
>>53524597
Leave him alone and get smarter friends.

Hey /g/ I need some help.
My mom's phone (Samsung Galaxy Note 5) had a problem where it suddenly stopped recognizing her fingerprint lock and backup code or w/e. Eventually, despite having photos and files she wanted to retrieve from the phone, she did a factory reset and now has requested my help in trying to retrieve the deleted photos.
Is there actually any way to do that at this point? I need to do this or she'll keep downloading sketchy software on my computer trying to fix it herself. Google hasn't been much help, I figured I'd get more...

rooting the phone in the first place might offer you better solutions afterwards. i'm sure there's something to recover lost data with root access.
Take it to the Samsung Store
Realistically it's gone anon.
Especially with shit like photos, the trace you might possibly recover would be corrupt as fuck.
The only thing I would suggest is checking if they automatically backed up to google. Since the spy features are on by default, most people don't even know it's happening.

That doesn't really matter.
Things to look for in a laptop:
Display resolution
Battery Life
Thickness
Weight
16:10
You don't have any of those attributes listed. A laptop is not a work horse, it needs to be able to use the internet, and be able to move around easily.

how do I take my experience in embedded c coding and convince an employer to hire me, even entry level, for something more mainstream (looking towards gaming, will start with any consumer end application using c++/java/whatever else I have to learn)
tldr how the hell do I get out of this pigeon hole I'm in? everything I read people say like "programming is programming" but that's not how employers see it.
>>53521768
Funny, I want to go into embedded programming and I don't know where to start. I became interested in microcontrollers a few years ago, before Arduino went mainstream
I programmed an AVR chip with a homemade parallel cable and a few resistors, but it was a wonky affair and I dropped it after a while.
Now, what can I do to impress a firm into hiring me?
>>53521768
Ship something.
Where's your Github?
The issue here is proof you can do the work.
>>53522132
they didn't need this proof when I got hired in to be an embedded programmer. anyway I am working on those things you say (git hub, others), but how can I "ship something" if I'm not already working in that field? catch 22

Why are you still relying on 3rd-party DNS servers, most of which don't even support DNSSEC, instead of running your own and going directly to the root?
