How does Canonical make money off of Ubuntu? Redhat has the server market and its not like they are making money or even competing in the desktop or phone areas. So how are they pulling in 60-70 million a year?
Selling user data, basically

A big fat South African Jew runs the company and is playing the long game with it. Canonical is losing money for him currently.

Microsoft Word is the only acceptable editor for Microsoft Word documents. Open source alternatives are fucking shit.
If you don't care what format you're working in, then still Microsoft Word as open source alternatives are fucking shit.
Word or Latex.
Looking for VPS providers that provide lifetime/1-time payments for research purposes. Don't care if it's onshore or off; neither KVM or Xen. I do know that these types of hosts are basically a fucking legend.
I already know about CloudAtCost and LinuxBear, but is there any other hosts stupid enough to try for it?
Maki!
Doesnt exist
Years ago I bought a cpanel reseller account from some site and then cancelled the paypal subscription, but somehow they forgot to close my account. Used that account for like 4 years with no problem until the company went under (I wonder why..)
Maybe try that with a few cheap looking hosts
Hey anons. I'm looking to buy a laptop.
My desktop has an AMD 8350 and a GTX 970. I'm looking for a laptop ~$1000 or less that I can throw games at. I'm not looking to run GTAV on the thing, since I do have my desktop. But I'd like if I could dev on it (gamedev).
I haven't kept up on laptop specs, so I'm not really sure where to start. I was considering getting something with an i5 and 940m, but apparently the m models are all extremely slow compared to their desktop couterparts? I'm wondering how much slower, etc.

Oh, and I'm looking to dual boot Windows and Linux, probably either Ubuntu, Mint, and possibly triple boot for SteamOS (I need it, to ensure builds run on it).

What kind of dev are you that you have to ask 4chan for advice? Oh wait.
A game dev.

how viable would it be for me to do research in both AI and mechanical/electrical engineering to develop the hardware and software aspects of a robot that is capable of running, communicating advanced linguistics, parsing huge amounts of data to produce judgements, and updating/improving its own code?
my idea was that it would use a very simplistic programming language that's turing complete with only a handful of oeprators, and it would be able to utilize it to do adjustments to its code to debug and add material it finds on aggregate sites like stackoverflow,scihub,wikipedia...

I think you may achieve a proof-of-concept of one of the features you describe if you spend your entirely lifetime studying for it.
This is an insane undertaking, a company like Google could invest a billion over 100 years and not achieve anything close to the desired end-goal.
Good luck! :)
>>53699117
why a lifetime? the internet isn't even half a century old and it made a bigger impact than what i'm trying to do.

They tried 10-15 years ago and failed, after which speaking legible english and delivering working software on time is in even more demand; there's no chance it will happen.
>>53698943
Well it actually happened to me. Have been working at same company for over 3 years and going in my 4th year they were talking about me "taking a leave" for a more "experienced" and "better" suited person. So I had to leave, 3 months later I got a call from the company who fired me, they wanted me back, according to them, it was a "wrong" choice their efficiency levels weren't meet in anytime and it took longer for them to start and end things, so basically I was "required"...

We got another one, boys!
>Adobe Audition CS6 can't handle opus files.
Those fucking jews can't even include a free codec in their so-called professional software package.
Does /g/ know of any audio editing software that can handle the masterrace format?
It supports vorbis just fine. Who cares if it doesn't support opus just like 99% of all other software?
The opus format is really complex and hard to work with compared with other formats, and it offers no benefit whatsoever over vorbis at reasonable bitrates. It's entirely understandable that software that has no need for low-bitrate and low-latency streaming wouldn't support opus.
>>53698824
>hard to work with
No. They literally only needs to implement a simple decoder and encoder (from and to wav), which is supplied for free as in freedom by the creators of the format.
Considering youtube already has opus as one of its audio stream format, I think opus is actually gaining mainstream traction.
A.. Audacity?
Let's say that you wanted to record video with a hidden camera but you want to also see it in real time, I have narrow it down to this 2 but I cannot find a reliable source on the operational distance of the application on a smartphone trough wifi. So what do you have? what do you recomend?

I have a Point of View TAB-P722C V1.0 and it have some "ads" that keep coming up, do you know any way to remove them?
I deleted some files that had to do with one of those a while back, and thought it that might have fixed it, but obviously it didn't.
So do you know if it possible to get rid of them for good?
I suspect they may have something to do with these updated apps(other pic), bu I'm not sure. The update apps are uninstallable.
I don't have it rooted and haven't found anything about rooting or flashing this model.
If you hold down on the notification it'll tell you what app is causing it
>>53698488
They aren't there right now, so I can't check it. If the source is an uninstallable app is there any way to remove it without root access?

Why don't we have GNU/Linux phones yet?
How hard would it be to make it possible to install whatever distribution you want to run on your phone. No, I'm not counting busybox hacks which still requires you to run Android...
I think it would be great to have your preferred distribution, with its own package manager to keep it updated, as opposed to endlessly wait for your good for nothing carrier to push an OTA update, which is likely never to be released in the first place because they suddenly decided your phone is EOL...
because RMS doesn't understand what phones are or why people would want one.
>>53698370
I know RMS hates phones, but your averge distribution doesn't.
>>53698454
You can chroot your phone and buy cyanogenmod phones which maintain support for a long long time (and it's not difficult to port and build newer versions of android)
Stop accepting those garbage carrier phones which you end up paying full price for anyways and just drop the $300-$600 and buy a decent phone outright.
What you want we have already.
