I'm looking to upgrade my early 2011 Macbook Pro with more memory and an SSD.
Are the "specifications" from Apple bullshit? Is there any reason I can't put 2x8 GB 1600 MHz in?

RAM is RAM.
Any SO-DIMM DDR3 will work in it.
What about heating issues?
>>55072047
You're assuming that the BIOS will recognize the sticks, which it may or may not.
Is this worth buying for the laptop or PC?
Anyone has experience with this?
It depends on a lot of factors, not the least of which is the sort of headphones you're planning on using. As such I recommend talking to the headphone people at the Headphone General thread, 4chan.org/g/hpg
>>55071470
Who says he's using headphones?
>>55071484
I am, as part of the encouragement to get him into the general thread which is meant to catch all of this shit. Let them deal with his choice of device.
Why can't Apple into security?
>APFS
B-but Mac OS X is virus proof

Maybe but it's really easy to hack.
Anons, I don't know what to do.
So I am a NEET and out of the blue I got a proposal to work as a sysadmin for a small (is ~60 people considered small?) company. I actually don't think that my computer knowledge is any good (maybe slightly higher than helpdesk) and I absolutely do not know what to expect. Should I fucking pull out right now or should I at least try? How to not instantly fuck everything up?
pls help
the worst you can do is fail my child
>>55071285
I guess you're right, anon.
I just need to know basic pitfalls so I want be forever known as a massive retard by those people.
Google is your friend. Wing it and learn as you go. What's the worst that can happen, you get fired or form a decent career?
Hey /g/ Long time listener first time caller.
I am officially tired of being on Winblows for my daily driver. So I am jumping ship. I am considering Debian but that is not the question at hand.
My plan is to run a VM of Winblows and I was wondering what kind of performance I should expect with VT-d. Things that I have read are not too great however those articles that I have read are fairly old and I am not sure that they are still applicable.
I am running an R9 390 and a i7-4790k
Good enough for most things. How much RAM do you have?
>>55071144
16 gig. Clocked kinda low. Brought it over from my old machine.
>>55071157
That'll do
>2016
>mom still uses a receiver and services to record shows on and watch them later
>tell her that I can find whatever she wants on line for free
>says it's too complicated
>show her how it works and how easy it is
>says it's too complicated
>she likes looking thru the guide like looking thru the phone book or a newspaper
Why tho?

What's the difference between a proxy and a VPN?
Proxy: look like you are somewhere else, but sometimes found out
VPN: Proxy + Encryption
A proxy only secures your webbrowser or specific application
A VPN handles all your traffic
Nothing really.
In practice, though, all VPN software creates network interfaces and adds routes to make your software use VPN connection without you having to configure anything additionally.
And with proxy, software needs to be specifically configured to use the proxy.
>>55071036
There are SSL proxies, so, no, encryption is not a difference.
>icon set doesn't match your theme
>theme breaks your applications
>menus are too large
>muh padding
>application missing an icon

I just realised I been ricing my setup since this morning. How do you guys cope with not having the perfect eye candy? When there's 2 extra pixels in a panel that shouldn't be there?
>>55070979
Windows or Linux.
If it's Windows you fucked up.
>>55070979
>How do you guys cope with not having the perfect eye candy?
Not everyone is autistic or spends his whole day in front of PC monitor.
People actually have jobs and do other things in life.

Linux
The older I get, the more I enjoy NOT buying new hardware.
Be honest:
You don't need the latest "OMG GigaHurtz" CPU to be productive.
You won't be that much happier with the shiny new $1000 GPU.
Your brand new "smart" phone doesn't really improve your life.
>>55070956
Nice blog
You sound like an old man, tbqh fampai
The older I get the less new shit costs as a % of my income. I spend my money on my motorcycles and pc and that's it, so I have way more money than I need.
I got something pretty unique for you guys today
a bag inside a bag?
Dragon dildos or get out
Now we get to the box
listen guys,
i have shilled terry really hard when i had the time. he is insane but almost everything he says is true. terry sees the matrix. if you have ever watched him and and actually payed attention you would know. RIP THE WORLD. i am not being ironic like everyone else on 4chan

AMD Teaser
Summit Ridge(ZEN) Running DOOM
Are their any performance details out there?

>Are their any performance details out there?
Course not you fucking idiot
Even if there was you couldn't trust it at all. Especially shit from AMD themselves.
>Using a CPU to run a game
wow
its fucking nothing!
So what's so special about this?
Why is this supposed to be amazing? Am i missing something? A GPU runs DOOM. Is this a major accomplishment for AMD or something?
Why is Australian internet so expensive?
Probably because they know they've got us by the dangly bits and can charge whatever they want and we have no alternative.
Also because there is a LOT of dead space between our major population centres and it would cost a fuckton to lay stuff like fibre all along there.

Name something that isn't expensive in Australia

how do u nolifes sit on the computer all day comfortably ???
have u heard of the floor desk?
im building myself a custom computer desk with these nice solid beech tops i got from ikea
im thinking like 17ish inches off the floor
i been using a desk that is 27 inches
the idea is to sit on the floor not using a chair
i remember that one battlestation a /g/ent on here posted with all those creepy dolls and multiple monitors. sat on hardwood floor tho idk
post pics
>>55070495
I've done this before while super poor. Back hurts after a long time, don't recommend.
>>55070495
I just have a shitty office chair i got at goodwill with a foam seat pad i got at walmart. I couldnt stand sitting on the floor, no idea how sysadmin does it.
This is dumb. Even the Japs use their computers at desks (according to anime). Get a soft, well-padded chair and get up regularly to stretch.
Help me out /g/
I got a job interview relating to working with access tomorrow but I only know the basics. What can I say to show that I know my shit? Also any online videos to help me study?
>>55070490
Tell them you know how to use odbc connections with it.
>>55070490
What exactly do you want to know, OP?
Access uses a T-SQL dialect (it's 90% overlap with T-SQL), which means you can use SQL with some nice functions on top..
>SELECT [field nr. 1] AS f1, Nz( [field nr. 2], 0) AS f2, Iif([field nr. 1] = 3, 4, [field nr. 1]) AS f3
This gives you three fields:
-[field nr. 1] gets renamed as "f1"
-[field nr. 2] gets renamed as "f2", if contains a NULL value, it returns "0" (instad of NULL),...

m pretty familiar with queries and forms etc. Havent used SQL though.
Im just not sure what else i should educate myself on. The job description requires me to "assist in enhancing existing databases through specified improvements and updating them regularly."
