I plan on setting up a really lightweight linux system. I am currently running arch with the "base" package installed as well as the i3 window manager. Anyone have any recommendations for shrinking it down even more?
Buy a smaller box
Don't run X.
What is even the point of i3? I'm running it currently. Is it just to make you feel cool that you're almost never using a mouse?
When booting the systems shift-decay in prognosis-mode fails, why do the main wireapp fry in conjunction with the disk itself? Could the shift-decay be obsolete in it's cooperation with the disk?
The host of the systems lantern should be re-labeled as sysdisk.erg and then be revitalized through the command:
Su -o /dax/plox/unit/sysdisk.erg --kwa erg
You could also re-vitalize the phragdisk itself, by culizing the disk-setup. Try plonking the mainframe-sysdisk with the command:
Dopper -yn /frax/plox/cdr/disk.cyx
Maybe this will help

Hello /g/
I'm currently thinking of upgrading my CPU from i5 2500k to i7 5820k.
My current rig is:
i5 2500k;
GTX 970
16gb ram ddr3
And with the upgrade I'll have
i7 5820k and 32gb ddr4.
I use my rig mostly for 3d work, rendering, graphic applications and gaming.
I've got a few questions:
1. Should I get 5820k or 6800k? Both are 6-core CPUs, and I'll surely utilize the cores in rendering and 3d modelling, but is there no diminishing returns over choosing 5820k over 6800k? The tests mostly focus on games, so it's...

Please don't upgrade, your computer is a literal meme.
6800k obviously.
You should be fine without overclocking, but might as well get a 750 or 850 if you're gonna spend that much on new parts already.

You talking shit Sandy Bridge son?
Fucking god-tier chips.
Why is RX480 cheaper than GTX970?
I don't get it.
Beats me I have a 1080.
Don't have time for that poorfag nonsense.

Looking for a 24" monitor that would last me some years, budget €300-400.
I have a Dell XPS 15 (2012) running off an NVIDIA GT 640M, W7. Mostly use it for Ableton Live and playing some Quake or Dark Souls.
I think 1080p would be enough, though I might eventually build a desktop after some years. Should I be considering 4K at this point?
Also I don't give a shit about extras like USB ports or speakers.
hp z24i
>>55405381
Don't be a dumbass. At 24" anything but a standard 1080p is literally pointless.
I'm buying a BenQ XL2411Z
I got a Phenom II x6 1055T here running at 3,5 GHz combined with an AMD 5770 GPU.
Do you think it makes sense for me to upgrade to an RX 470 GPU to enjoy my games in 1440p?
>>55405517
Why the fuck not? Doubt you'll be enjoying them in 1440p. Its more of a perfect 1080p rig.
Sure, the cpu needs no upgrade
But amd's and nvidia's mean 30fps max settings so up to you
t. Guy who bought a phenom xii 555 and unlocked 6 cores

>Why the fuck not?
Well i thought maybe the CPU might be way too old for such a new GPU and bottleneck it.
Thanks for input guys.
How did APUs overcome driver overhead? Or did they not?
Is there any performance advantage to being on the same die?

Driver overhead is a real issue since AMD is supposed to be the budget brand.
When did Thinkpad quality become worse? I looked through new Thinkpad models and they don't seem to be durable.
they've always been shit

>When did Thinkpad quality become worse?
When IBM sold it, really. The first Lenovo Thinkpads were still okay, but not as great as the IBM ones. Then it very gradually went down hill.
So whats the new thinkpad?

Sup /g/ I recently graduated college in an IT course and was wondering about how much information I need to know about fixing computers in entry level jobs. The majority of things i learned were things like running windows r2 servers and hardly anything on fixing computers. Arent almost all entry level IT jobs shit like customer service and fixing computers?
Do i absolutely need to know everything about fixing computers before i get an entry level job? I have no past IT work experience btw.
Pls respond
Sup OP, IT guy here. I've been doing it for years. The biggest thing is customer service. If you can make the user like you then it won't matter when you tell them their problem's not getting fixed immediately because they think you're awesome. Most of the time different offices use different software so no one will care if you're not familiar, they'll catch you up to speed. Don't worry, you'll be fine. Learn to dazzle, then solve the problem. Note: You will use Google a lot. That's okay, everyone else in your office is doing it too.

Thanks do u have any tips on how to make customers like me?

First time using Edge it felt like I was a little wee lad using Netscape for the first time. It just feels so right. It almost seems that on the horizon there finally is a death for the memes that are Chrome and Firefox.
I'm using W10 and I haven't tried Edge even once.
