I overclocked my system today, and while it's running fine and stable, there's so much fucking misinformation, conflicting information and bullshit out there that I'm confused by now.
So I'm hoping that someone here can help me out. I'm happy with my CPU frequency, would like to tone down the power consumption if possible though.
I'm using offset voltage to overclock.
Gigabyte Z77X + 3570k
Base CPU voltage is 1.08
With the multiplyer set to 44 I'm stable with an offset of +0.05 and LLC at medium.
My confusion started while monitoring the stress test: CPU-Z shows a VCore of 1.152, while CoreTemp shows a VID of 1.1709.
I have no idea where those values are coming from and what they mean for me, if I can turn down the offset a bit or not.
There are countless people out there proclaiming one thing or the other, formulas like VCore-VID=Offset and so on, but none of these statements are coherent or even similar. And it's all distributed across countless forum posts or blogs.
Can anyone help me out? I'd appreciate it.
On top of that, as far as I understand it LLC is the biggest cause of degradation and should be kept as low as possible. Is that correct? Because again, some 'guides' suggest cranking it up to the max.
I don't want the highest OC possible, just something useful and stable. 4.4Ghz is enough for me, and my temps are fine (about 65C while running Prime).
I overclocked my 3570k to 4.4Ghz using the auto function. It goes to 95c under a 212evo before I abort the primes. Maybe I should look into this.
Guys, I don't know anything about gaming pc's so I need to know the best value for money pc I can get for £500... Any help is good help! :D

Just rooted my Nexus 5x. What are some things I should do now?
Sup. I won't act like I need a 144hz for programming, I just never had one and and want to try it.
So its either LG 24GM77 which doesn't have Freesync but reviews say it has the best color amongst all TN panels, or a AOC G2770P which has Freesync and the prices are the same. (But this one is 27 inches.. but 1080p)
Does Freesync worht it? I tend to love watching movies altough my current one is an LG IPS (with heavy backlight bleed)
Mouse pad thread
Hey /g/, lurker here, but I could use your guys' advice as I'm still a fucking retard when it comes to specs.
Yes it's another shitty suggestion thread, but any help is appreciated.
Getting a new laptop, only laptop I've ever had was a MacBook Pro, and it's really not doing too well.
I'm a CS major, and really all I'm after is a store bought laptop that I can really make the most of now that I know what I'm doing, along with not crawling when running steam applications or emulators. Are MSI laptops any good? I was...

Long lasting, able to run several applications at once, and just generally quick.
I really wish I knew how to talk specs though so I could be more specific
I would say for you to look for a second gen i-series with at least 8GB of RAM. The type of Laptop you're looking for might matter ie: Thinkpad or an Asus so I'd start looking at a website like newegg and start putting what specs you want.
My ID might change since I'll be going to work soon, but I'll still be able to help.
>everyone and their grandma have a computer with an i3 or i5
>the only thing they use their computers for is browsing the internet
This makes me mad
What does /g/ you do to protect your eyes from nonstop screen watching ?
Especially those who have IT jobs
Why is this SJW bullshit magazine even relevant?
It's basically Buzzfeed, Gawker or Cracked at this point.
I just wanted to pop in and thank you guys. I just installed Waterfox after being too lazy to get off of default Firefox and the performance increase is making my nipples as hard as diamonds.
Sometimes, between all the memes, you get it right /g/.
Since I don't want this thread to be totally pointless, post examples of times you followed /g/'s advice and it was actually a pleasant experience.
Why does /g/ recommend Thinkpads?
The Dell Precision series laptops are much better.
