Why isn't there an universal driver protocol that would automatically send a signal to any hardware and get in return the specifications from it as to what it is, and how to make use of it? At least to some capacity or another. Lack of drivers and lack of hardware recognition is such a huge problem it makes me think we are like in the stone age of compatibility.
>>54338253
because hardware is different?

It's called USB.

Has anyone gone back to using jewgle for search?
Startpage is a pretty cool guy but it's missing a lot of useful features, like being able to apply filters to image searches.
>>54338247
>Has anyone gone back to using jewgle for search?
a long time ago when duckduckgo was becoming a meme and startpage had a shitty ui
Just don't use it to search anything illegal.
Also, Google tracks you all over the web using Google ads. If you're not using SSL everywhere, ghostery, no script, a VPN, etc. and have a good security discipline your choice of a search engine isn't going to make much of a difference for you.

>ghostery
Stopped reading right there.

What do you guys think of our old QNX servers?
>old
>>54338108
Well, they're over 20 years old.
Not stone age old, but at least grandpa old.
They look fine to me.

What are /g/'s thoughts on BitMessage?
is it an encrypted voip?
>>54338080
No. More like a decentralized instant messenger or e-mail system.
>>54338070
I don't see the point. The idea behind Tox is better.

Somebody should take this and create a new site based on it...

I like how anyone trying to find out information about me gets blasted with a shit load of plugins
Why is apt-get hard to understand, when something goes wrong? At least DNF tells me what to do, if you get some error message.

How does one moves to windows 10 the right way? And should one even leave windows 7 or not yet?
t. Windows user still on the learning.
>>54337447
>Install win7 and crack it
>upgrade to win10 for free
>connect win10 online so the botnet saves your computer info
>wipe hdd
>reinstall win10 and skip the key. When it connects to online it recognizes your win10 as "legit"

Or just you know, download the Win 10 Enterprise N LTSB ISO, burn to USB, install and enjoy.
What is the closest Linux to Windows 3.1 look?
Isnt windows 3.1 linux?
None :^)
Ask for genuine Microsoft software!
>>54337404
Linux is basically Windows 3.1 in terms of progression.
You know those scammers that call you and tell you that your computer has a virus and they want you to go to a particular website and download their shit to fix the problem (which is actually a virus)?
I think I may have just defeated one of them in the most brilliant way possible.
>Get call from obvious scammer.
>Act like I know nothing.
>Pretend I'm following his directions to the malware site.
>Tell him I went there, but nothing is happening.Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
I take "shit that never happened" for 100
>>54337341
What a dumb story, it's not funny and it's not even remotely believable.
Those indian scammers are pressured to call as many marks as possible and they certainly wouldn't waste time trying to install some software provided by the mark they're trying to scam.
So i work at techsupport and just had to tell a customer that his no video problem during boot is not a problem with the monitor but its working as designed. How normal is it for modern monitors to not support video during startup?
It's not common or normal.
Your company just has no integrity.
It's like how apple refuses to acknowledge that malware has ever existed on macOS and all apple reps are trained NOT to use the word "virus" and to always shift blame to the user.

OSX users, or users of inspired-by-OSX-DE, do you hide the damn Dock? To me the Dock was good when it was like in the NeXT OS. Fixed, stacked, whatever. So?
>>54336093
The Dock is fine, I rarely hide it, only in some special cases when i like to put a video in the lower right corner, so the dock doesnt obscure it. Other than that I prefer it being there. Mine is set to not do the magnification effect, and the dock itself is a rather small.
>>54336185
I find the default OSX dock bloated and huge (full of apps nobody uses). But once reduced, its better.
