Hey /g/ I need some advice, what's the best tower graphics card I can get for the grand total of 200$?
>>54535741
380
>>54535741
wait for 970s to drop
>>54535741
If you're on Windows 380 or 960 its totally a personal preference thing.
If you're on Linux and you want the best performance get a 960.
If you're on Linux and you want the best open drivers get a 380.
What RSS reader does /g/ use?
>>54535674
Feedly. I like having my feeds synced across my devices.
>>54535674
Liferea. Only issues I have with it are cosmetic
>>54535754
I use a local application because I don't want a dependency on a cloud service. Nor do I want them keeping a record of what I read.

hey /g/,
so I really fucked up this semester and they cut off my financial aid. I deserve this, as I'm a lazy fuck and barely put any effort into this semester and it was already my third chance. The financial aid is done. Got a C in my algorithms and database classes, but pretty much failed my stats course. I'm still a student at the university, but can't afford to go back for a while. Looks like i'm going to have to take Fall 2016 off to save up. I'm a junior software engineering student, so I only have two semesters left. I'll be pushed...

Expecting anyone to read this wall of shit
Basically reread the material that you neglected, and do the exercises + the challenge exercises. For, in order to redeem yourself, you not only have to catch up. But exceed the average skill of your classmates by far. Otherwise, employers will assert (and rightly so) that you're mediocre.
Also, you're going to have to pay for your academic sins. If you want to even have a competitive chance, don't think you'll get by by becoming average of slightly better than average. You'll have to do impressive personal projects, get involved in research, win some competitions. If you think that is too hard, you might consider taking an alternative route to success, such as dropping out and try your luck as an entrepreneur, making apps, or some other meme way. Or change your major to something easier like business, so you can ace courses, raise your GPA,...

GOD YES. Now I can use my server in peace.
Now we wait for snappy

Having a high IQ comes with it's pros and cons. For instance, i do perfectly fine while only half paying attention to what I'm doing in Arch and other logic based subjects, but when it comes to religion i can't even begin to understand how anyone would believe a damned thing
explain the differences

Why does almost everyone on /g/ rip on Arch Linux?
>>54535162

it's one (1) morbidly obese shitposter
>>54535162
The dullnormal / retard range of morons around here can't install it, and it makes them pretty mad.
Because it's popular.

Why is Apple the only brand that has a decent, self-sustainable full ecosystem?
Google and Microsoft only failed miserably so far
>>54535144
Google's is pretty good (at least it was a bit over a year ago, back when I still had an Android phone.)
Microsoft's was shit from day one due to how big and fractured the company is. Apple's is okay but it's slipping hard. Services and devices don't work together as well as they could.
>>54535144
Because they treat their customer base like shit and only sell them what they want to sell them.
Then they decide what they can and cannot do with it.
Because they always controlled both hardware and the software it runs and they have very limited amount of devices they have to provide support for.
Microsoft relies on various OEMs
And google doesn't have enough devices to speak of an ecosystem of any kind.
And android is a huge success whether you like it or not.
Are differential equations useful for CS?
not really unless you go into graphics rendering for VIDYA GAYMEZZ and need to come up with better ways to do stuff like quarternion interpolation or physically based shading from non-uniform light sources
>>54535270
People working on that are usually mathematicians who know a little bit of coding (mostly algorithms), not CS grads who know a little bit of math.
The answer is yes and not and it depends on where you want to work. If you aim to be a senior codemonkey then they are worthless. If you want to work on graphics, rendering, finance, NASA, CERN, etc, then yes. But like I said people working on those fields or places usually don't study CS.
>>54535383
So remind me again, what are CS grads actually good for?
i really dont know since i dont use them
Well my dear emotionless sociopath allow me to explain.
Normal non defective people have a wide range of emotions which can be expressed in a facial expression. Typically descriptions of said emotions can use many words, however a picture representative of these expressions is a far faster way of conveying said emotions.
Now that being said Mr or Ms emotionless sociopath, if I were you I would work on mimicking these facial expressions when I saw them in public. It will fool people into not knowing what a creepy and damaged fuck you are!
I'd say have...

$5-10 WRT54 at your local thrift store.
Any Asus router in the $80-150 range is good.

What mouse should I get?
My deathadder is breaking after 3 years of non stop computer use. Should I get that one with the ball, that looks cool.
>>54534786
Looks like you fell for the gamin' mouse meme
I've used a wireless dynex mouse for the past 6 years and have had zero issues with things breaking or comparability
The m65 is pretty nice. I've had mine for over 2 years and it works great. The materials also don't really show any wear.

One of the best sensors put in a mouse. Buy the new chroma version.

Oops I forgot to MD5 this trashheap, thanks for the reminder.
can we get a college thread going? how is your IT/computer science/STEM program at your school?
My school fucking blows because their IT, STEM and nursing programs are neglected and our school is blowing all their money on liberal arts, media arts and art in general.
we have a bunch of special snowflake 5'6 crybabies running around while the nursing students chain smoke, the STEM people are always complaining about math homework and the ITfags are forced to buy our own routers, switches and end devices to practice configurations on.
The liberal arts...
