Any cheap HDD heaters or other solutions?
Winter is comming and I'm having a hard time keeping my HDD temp above 10c. And I have to put it on delayed start (booting from SSD) so that the system warms up to above freezing before it starts spinning.
>>51447211
Don't shut down your system
Run shit to keep your CPU and GPU with enough load to warm your case
Otherwise you might want to warm the whole room to a decent temp

This is why we buy amd

Fair nuff. I was thinking about picking up a beginner set of picks just to fuck around with. They sell transparent locks to get you started with too.
>>51447298
Make your own, you need heatshrink tubing, steel from an old psu sandpaper and a dremel or a wire saw. Fun project imo
Trying to convince friend to install Gentoo.
Any ideas?
>>51447001
How do you install it?
say "install gentoo"
>>51447010
Tried that, no luck
Anyone out there produce electronic music? Been dabbling in it for a couple months, no hardware. Been thinking about getting serious and starting to make it more than just a hobby. What do you work with/recommend hardware/software wise? I'm set pc wise, nothing needed there.
I produce music electronically but I wouldn't call it electronic music. I cant really suggest anything for you to try out either. good luck in your endeavors hombre

Why does apple allow you to install windows but non apple products cant run OSX?
>inb4 hacked vmware mod shit
windows supports lots of hardware, mac doesnt
>>51446667
what the hell are you trying to say?
offbyone.jpg
>>51446667
tl;dr version:
Apple wants their OS to be 'SPECHUL' so you'll buy their expensive ass hardware to run it.
Longer (most likely BS) Version:
Apple mostly turns a profit in their hardware sales, so by forcing you to buy their hardware they make up the costs of developing the OS. It also has the added bonus of having an easy as shit OS to code for (seeing how there will only be certain kinds of hardware to code for instead of the mish-mash you can get with any other desktop OS).
Planning on upgrading my computer by putting a used Radeon HD 5770 in it. Is it solid as it is if all I really do is browse the internet and watch anime? Other than the shitty 32-bit OS not letting me use the other 6gb of my ram, obviously. I'm planning on wiping my hard drive and installing a Windows 7 pro iso I've had saved since Digital River went away as well.
Or should I just wait a year and build an entirely new computer?
Why do you need to upgrade your GPU if you all you "really do is browse the internet and watch anime"?
The biggest upgrade desu would be to install 64bit windows and more ram
>>51446546
I thought it might be fun to try out some PC games. Basically what I'm asking is if my CPU is decent or if I should start fresh in a year instead of upgrading my current machine.
Hey /g/oys, just wondering if it's a good buy, maybe i should wait until like black friday if it's on sale? Honestly I just want a quicker experience with my phone compared to shitty wal-mart tier pre-paid phones that are filled with bloated apps. I'd be ok with spending $500 on a phone but I just want a regular sized phone, so if possible anything smaller than 5.75" would be ok with me.

My buddy said to just pay the extra $50 for a Moto X, thoughts?
>>51446182
I'm guessing the X 2nd gen and not the X Pure right? actually looks quite nice, has a better processor too and it's not too huge. I'll read up a bit more on that one, appreciate it!

Is it still possible to live 'off the grid'?
This one is attempting to obtain an apartment wherein identity is not necessary.
Is money the most important factor?
How does this one find locations that do not require identification for said domicile?
Find a roommate on craigslist, live in the slums, get fake ID, or pay the whole lease upfront.
>>51445997
Are there options that do not include contact with people?
>>51446031
You could buy a shitty class c rv and park it wherever you want to. Unless you have the money to hire an attorney to do all the leg work, it's not going to be possible to rent an apartment without talking to these people.
So what does windows 10 actually see you doing?
Anyone here not run windows 10 because of privacy issues. Many of the settings can be turned off but many still see the new windows as microsoft syping on them. How much can they actually see?
>How much can they actually see?
As much as they want.
>>51445961
Isn't the same with windows 7? All this ruckus about windows 10 when i would imagine they can see the same shit with people running windows 7.
I'm still on 7, don't see the big hype around 10
>uber botnet
I restarted my browser and am seeing ads for the first time in years so I'm assuming uBlock has gone to shit. What's the best current adblocker?
ABP, always and forever.
>>51445824
do you have all the anti-anti-adblock filters enabled?
>>51445824
Where are you seeing them at? I got them on Nyaa and I've seen them on a few other sites no matter which adblocker I'm using.
Luckily, Nyaa uses a certain naming scheme that distinguishes the ads from the site icons so I was able to block them with a custom rule in UBorigin.
The ads you've run into are likely blockable the same way.
I know most of you don't care, but in case there's some few of you who do, here's an update. Yesterday I posted a thread asking for help about my computer overheating. I thought it was the power supply. I was wrong, though, apparently my CPU fan went bad.
Pic related, I've got a CoolerMaster Hyper 212 that I let the salesman upsell me on when I built this rig 18 months ago. The fan's supposed to be rated at 40,000 hours. Apparently not. Something's stiff in the bearings making it not spin as readily as it used to. Oh well.
The thing...

Dude that heat sink isn't that expensive, if it's on the blink then just buy another.
They're like $40 and buy it off amazon so it'll arrive quickly and you get a guarantee
>>51445837
Yeah, you're right. The heat sink is fine, though. It's the fan that has problems.
I don't even really need a new fan. I just need another set of the little snap brackets that seem ONLY to come in that combo box. So I'm basically paying $40 for these little plastic snaps that probably cost $0.10 to make, just because they're the specific right size to fit on the damn heat sink stack.
>>51445866
I do see where you are coming from, however I think you can buy the fan as a unit ..

yeah it's $26.99 here I wouldn't worry too much I'd just get another
