Why GNU `su' does not support the `wheel' group
===============================================
(This section is by Richard Stallman.)
Sometimes a few of the users try to hold total power over all the
rest. For example, in 1984, a few users at the MIT AI lab decided to
seize power by changing the operator password on the Twenex system and
keeping it secret from everyone else. (I was able to thwart this coup
and give power back to the users by patching the kernel, but I wouldn't
know how to do that...

I had wondered about this but I always assumed it was out of laziness and poor security practice, rather than insanity.

It's RMS, what do you expect?
Just bought this Cube iwork8 tablet for £50 a few days ago.
>Atom X5 Z8300 (up to 1.84GHz)
>2GB RAM
>32GB eMMC (supports SD)
>1280x800 on an 8" IPS screen
>Windows 10
Sounds alright for £50, especially since the chipset supports x265 (HEVC) and 10bit video for those Mongolian toddler animations.

Anyone have any experience with these? Also, what else have you bought?
>Xiaomi 10,000mAh power bank
>microusb > lightning connector
>Xiaomi usb led lamp
>tempered glass screen protectors
>some phone cases
I bought this for $170
Intel Cherry Trail Z8300
Windows 10
4GB DDR3L
64GB eMMC
9.7 Inch IPS
2048*1536 resolution

Is it good? Is there any lag with that resolution? How's Windows on a tablet? Do you read books or comics, if so, how is the experience? Can you decode difficult videos with ease?

Why wouldn't you trust it
They hide the unbloated installer really really deep in their website.
Once you find it then its all good.
I don't know
Do we really know the long term effects of staring at a computer screen for hours on end? Has this been studied enough? Are there bad effects on our eyes and minds by being in front of a computer this much?
>>51641242
I've definitely felt my vision get worse. Other than that I don't think it has much of an effect, no different than sitting down doing anything else anyway

Face it buddy Apple and microdick aren't competitors anymore.
The competition is them versus Google.
>>51640998
Is microsoft literally a subsidiary of apple these days?
Who is your favorite package courier /g/?
I always seem to have hiccups with all of them except for USPS.
For years, I have only had 1 lost package by USPS which was found within 2 days.
I have had shit completely disappear from both FedEx and UPS.
Who do you use? Who do you like to deliver to you?
UPS has been good to me. Our post service is awful. I've used Purolator a bit too, they were okay. I was pleasantly surprised with DHL, though, they got me my gook monitor in only a few days.
t. Canadian
I haven't had a problem with any of them, and I don't really pay attention to shipping.
>>51640936
USPS/Canada Post/Purolator
Never had any real problems.
Only had one package arrive damaged in my life, and it just had shirts in it so the contents were perfectly fine and I didn't have to raise shit.
Woah, what is this place. It seems like nothing but inane comments.
I think i'm gonna put my penis into /b/

I want to buy a 4K monitor not just for gaming but for content creation.
I'm looking into getting the ASUS PQ321Q because of its color accuracy thanks to it IPS-like panel (that's what Linus said). Is there a cheaper alternative that is also a 31 inches.
My second option would be the ASUS PB287Q.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Is there anything new coming out soon?
pls respond
>Linus
XD
>>51640883
The PQ321Q has been replaced by the PA328Q, which is basically the same

If you can, go for the Dell UP3216Q

Hi /g/houls. I just installed Ubuntu yesterday. I'm pretty much in love. I chose this distro as a beginner tutorial ground, but i have eyes on Arch.
What are the essential things to know for a long time windows user? any crafty apps or anything regarding tweaking anything to privacy and security? Compatibility packages for gaming? Pro tips?
Start using terminal. That when you'l fall in love with Unix.
>>51640627
Yeah I am currently trying out commands and stuff. What apps would you recommend as a linux babby?
Pic related btw.
>>51640585
>privacy and security
You installed one of the very few linux OSes that actually doesn't respect your privacy or security, so good luck.
One thing you should know right off the bat though is that it's next to impossible to get a virus on linux so don't even bother with an av.
>Compatiblity packages for gaming?
If it doesn't work in WINE, it won't work at all.
>Pro tips?
Install Arch.
What the fuck is this? Even Opera is better than this trash!
>Memevaldi
>>51640395
The only bad thing about it is the slowness
Install edge when it gets extensions this isn't rocket science
>literally 100s of thread about "got new card today"
>spent $1000 for their new card
>Pascal shipping first months of 2016
>10x the current gpu performance
kek
why the fuck are you not waiting? you are really desperate for a new card urgently (sure..) or just money to throw away?
cause people are dumb.
this is too complicated anyways just buy 980ti its the best
>a fucking convolution kernel ASIC
>>51640313
I'm guessing the successor to GM204 launches early 2016 with 8gb 12ghz GDDR5X vram, 35-40% faster than Titan X at 4K for $599-649. I'm also guessing there will be two cut additional SKU's based off the same chip for $499-529 and $399-449.
Buying a new card today is just throwing away money.
Tell me senpai...
protip: Help a nigger out
I know i can get the 970 for a little cheaper just wondering what you hoes think?
>>51640113
r9 390 > gtx 970 unless there are features from nvidia that you use all the time. I would get a regular non X 390 if price is a concern. The performance difference between the 390 and 390X is minimal. Not worth the extra cash.

pc gamers, what does it feel like to spend your money on a cpu with half its die wasted on shitty laptop graphics?
it could be worse.

they gimped the cores as well to make skylake less of a housefire
>>51640054
it feels nice knowing that i have a decent gpu as an emergency backup in case of graphics card failure.
Preordered battlefront for pc. Only to find i have an older GPU, the NVIDIA 8400GS, which doesnt support the 350.00+ drivers. So im in need of a new one that has all the cool shit but isnt gonna run my pockets too dry.
How about posting some actual PC specs first dumbass.
Dell Optiplex 960 Large

AMD R9 390 or Nvidia GTX970 are good choices. for 1080p resolutions.
You want a decent power supply for the R9 390 though, it's more power hungry.
