Is there any way you can mask that ticking sound your computer makes when its thinking/loading?
I dont really have a problem with it when I'm awake, but when im trying to sleep it makes that same ticking noise (i think from the harddrive?) every few seconds and drives me crazy. I would much rather keep my comp on all night then turn it off but I cant sleep with the ticking sounds. Does anyone know a way to make your comp not make those sounds when your not using it? When my comp was new it never used to make it when it was idle but now even after reformatting...

In advanced power options there should be a setting for the amount of idle time before your HDD powers off.

Why not turn it off? To save it from stress of turning it on? That's retarded
You could replace your HDD with a completely silent SSD. If you need the additional storage then keep the HDD as a secondary drive, it won't be being accessed so often so power save settings will shut it down regularly.
That is elementary os, yes.

It's for poor wannabe-macfags, by poor wannabe-macfags.
Good for fags that want to move to Linux and still keep a pretty decent UI experience?
no time for love
This cold is getting to be a bit much
dragons dogma is really fun
What Linux Distro do you use and why?
I'll start:
>Lubuntu
>Because it just werks
Ubuntu Mate with Openbox
AMD driver just works. Steam just works. Heaps of third party packages and game like OpenTTD OpenXcom. Find the answer to literally any problem you have on Google.
Fedora.
Because it's easier to use than Ubuntu (no shitty Unity), it has just as much software that's easily available, and it doesn't try to sell you shit constantly and report your actions to Ubuntu HQ for data analysis.
Gentoo
Because I can configure it the way I see fit.

Only if you still live in the year 2008 and don't own an SSD

> is it worth it to use a 3rd party defrag like Perfect Disk
ONLY if your boot drive isn't an SSD, outside of that it's only good for a slight boost in load times for apps/games stored on a non-ssd
Outside of that, I wouldn't even bother.
But if you're still using a mechanical drive to boot from, it can make quite a noticeable difference.
I've come to find the only defrag package that truly makes a difference is one that can do...
