Microsoft killed off gadgets, a feature of Vista and 7 that had been prominently displayed in their ads, with no fanfare and no apologies. Now they've created 'Apps' in Windows 8 and 10. How long until they abandon these ecosystems and developers too?

Gadgets was a one of Microsofts many me-too wannabe efforts that was a rip off of OSX's Widgets, which was a rip off of Konfabulator, which was a rip off of the original Mac OS' Desk Accessories. (Someone want to trace it back further?)
Even OSX has since regulated Widgets to being a part of the notifications screen.
Vista gadgets and Calendar were pretty good. I kinda want to use them in other systems.
So I'm programming captain for a robotics team.
Had to learn java this year for it.
I'm the only programmer and my first time with object orienting.
I can't say I've never been more stressed out.
>>52518377

How is one supposed to dynamically allocate space for user input of arbitrary length?
Scanning through just to count the space to allocate in advance just seems wasteful.
>>52518418
You allocate it block by block, i.e.
>alloc n bytes
>read n bytes
>need more input? Then expand buffer to fit 2n bytes
>read another n bytes
>...
Or just use a function that does it for you.
No humor thread?

hello,
I asked on another board before but they told me to ask here
Is there any way I can encrypt a video file until a certain date, for example 03/06/2017?
Long story short, my daughter is 1 year old and doctors give me 3 months to live. I would like to leave her some videos of me which will unlock on her birthdays, christmas etc
thanks in advance
>>52518076
what operating system? If mac osx/ linux I would encrypt the files with python and then write a cron script to decrypt the files at a certain date
>>52518076
The only solution I see is to release the key to the video on that date. The key release would have to be manual or using a trusted automated process with trusted time source.
checkout maybe ----> http://www.tellyoulater.com/
>>52518119
another idea
you could also buy hosting, and do this all remotely on a server. Have cron send an email to her with a link that opens the video in a web browser. No need to encrypt then.
Easiest way to get to the deep web and how do I find decent shit on there?
There's nothing decent on the "deep web"
You know a guy or you don't.
If you don't, you consult the wiki and maybe look into communities who will PM you the addresses and subdomains willingly. This will probably fail if you don't know what you're doing.
A lot of it is hush-hush enough that less than maybe a few dozen or the count on a single hand would have business knowing. It's called the deep web for a reason, not the hipster web.
What the fuck are you looking for anyway?
OP is a pedophile
Also everything you likely hear about the deep web comes from faggots on reddit who post made up shitty stories about it.
If you want to waste your time on slow to load scam websites then feel free to use tails on a live usb.
You could probably look up the hidden wiki and go from there.
Are there any affordable alternatives to Comcast? Data cap is optional.
ISPs are region specific. Nobody here can give you an answer. Maybe a guess if we knew your location.
>>52518073
I live in Flint, Michigan
>>52517805
If you happen to live around Chattanooga, TN, EPB is one of the top ISPs in the country: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EPB
What is the worst computer you have ever used?
I had to use a Mac once.
Never again.

Any apple computer with that tiny as fuck little ass keyboard they thought was a good idea.
How does raw satellite feed look? how would I store it as data? how would I make it into something "readable"?
>>52517771
Just capture it to video using a cheap non hdcp chink capture card.
get a giant satellite dish and get the feeds straight from the network satellites
>>52517781
I mean, shit besides just tv, how could I get stuff from other satellites?
Thoughts?
I have a Note 4, thinking of upgrading soon. Is the nexus line worth a shit?

I decided to clean out my xbox 360 because ive been having issues. I opened the dvd and noticed this. Is the glue supposed to go that far out?
>>52517644
of course, silly anon.
you want to be a good goy and keep from being tempted to circumvent all that nice DRM, don't you?
all that epoxy is just to make sure no mod chips accidentally fall on the motherboard.
>>52517700
So it's not damaged or anything? This is the first time I've taken apart a 360.
>>52517700
jesus christ, kid. grow up.
Let's talk about certifications and careers!
If you're actively studying or interested in learning more about certs, ask away. Learn how to use certs to get jobs
If you have a tech career:
>Job Title
>Years of Experience
>Degrees/Certs
>How did you find/get job
>Pay
>Location
Opinions on CS50?
Thinking about taking it this year but it seems pretty hard. I don't have enough time as I go to college already, also it must be very expensive to get the actual certificate.
We /cert/ here!
>Network security analyst for department of Defense
>5 years experience (only 21)
>no degrees, A+ N+ and Security+
>found job on usajobs
>62000 a year
>South Carolina
Just got my CCENT (awaiting approval)
What other experience / certs should i look into for an entry level job in a data centre?
WHAT?!
What?

What's the most efficient way to download a 4000 video youtube playlist and converting the videos to mp3, audio quality is not that relevant I just need them as fast as possible.
>>52517413
Lurk more.
>>52517413
jdownloader, has a plugin or something for playlists and a converter
>>52517433
I tried videosoft mp3 converter but it limited me to a 40 video playlist
Also tried MediaHuman youtube to mp3 but the playlist crashed it plus it was too slow
