I'm brand new to programming, and I wanted to make a simple JavaScript program to add two numbers that were entered into the prompt. When I run it, it just combines the digits and doesn't add them. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
var a = prompt("First Number?")
var b = prompt("Second Number?")
function add () {
add = a + b
alert(add)
}
try replacingadd = a + b
withparseFloat(a) + parseFloat(b)
JS is weird with how it handles types, apparently it's assuming a and b are strings so it's interpreting the '+' operator as concatenation rather than addition.

Oh and the second piece of code should actually beadd = parseFloat(a) + parseFloat(b)
oh no, not this imperative bullshit again! I thought we should be doing functional reactive programming in this day and age.
var a = prompt("First Number?")
var b = prompt("Second Number?")
var num1 = Rx.Observable.just(parseFloat(a));
var num2 = Rx.Observable.just(parseFloat(b));
addedNumber = Rx.Observable.combineLatest(num1, num2, (left, right)=>{return left+right})
addedNumber.subscribe((val)=>{alert(val)});
Hey guys I want to create a script heavy JRPG that is 2D.
I want to be able to have lots of freedom but not have a super performance heavy game engine. Any suggestions? I thought about using Unreal engine 4 but i'm not sure if it is well optimized for 2D games...
Even though its 2D I also want it to look good (1080p etc)

Yo, what's up /g/? I'm the same guy who was asking about the 598's and I was wondering what on desk mic I should get. I really don't have he budget to get one over 70-80$ so really I just want one that doesn't sound like I'm talking into a garbage disposal with 45 dicks in my mouth..I was thinking a Blue snowball iCE. /g/'s thoughts?
I am monitoring this thread.

glad to have you

I have the iCE and it works fine. It sounds nice.
I'm not posting this topic in /sqt/ because it is not a stupid topic.
Let's share knowledge about the possibilities of using server and workstation motherboards in standard cases and with standard power supplies.
As of right now the Xeon e5-2670 has the best price/performance ratio for any CPU on the used market. You can read about it here:
http://ark.intel.com/products/64595/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5-2670-20M-Cache-2_60-GHz-8_00-GTs-Intel-QPI
Ideally you want two of these in a dual CPU configuration. If you can set this up you have an an outrageous amount of computational power in your hands with 32 threads, and a combined 40mb of cache. And 80 PCI-E lanes.
The cheapest motherboard which will support two of these CPUs is the motherboard found within the Dell Precision...

These motherboards require a card which looks like this to receive power.
>>54678816
This board appears to use the standard Dell 24+16 power supply connectors.
It is my theory you can use an ATX to Dell PSU adapter to adapter the connector from a standard power supply to the Dell standard. If you do this you can use a generic PSU and drastically cut down on prices of components.

Hello /g/. I have exactly one thousand dollars to spend in building a PC. I want to play games with this PC. Could someone suggest to me a list of parts for this PC so I can mod the fuck out of skyrim and stuff. Thank you.

What's up /g/? I'm a dumb nigger when it comes to headphones and I was wondering what everyone's personal preferences are. I'm trading out my shit headset for a on desk snow ball mic and I was thinking of getting the 598's. What does everyone think?

I got some 558's from Amazon on sale, they're pretty good.

Why do Google and Microsoft only hire people from top universities? Is there any reason not to hire independent programmers with degrees from lesser institutes, or degrees in different fields with significant experience? Anyone wants to share their experience?

I'm considering a MBP if the skylake refresh finally happens in July.
I want a premum laptops regardless of the brand
My main reasons for going MBP over another laptop(Like that neat Dell with the thin bezel) is the fact that it has great battery life, amazing screen, and it won't devalue as quickly as a none apple Laptop.
In 3-4 years I can likely still sell it for only 30%~ less then I paid for it and upgrade to a new Macbook cheap enough and repeat the cycle.
What's your opinion /g/?
>>In 3-4 years I can likely still sell it for only 30%~ less then I paid for it and upgrade to a new Macbook cheap enough and repeat the cycle.
okay!
>wont devalue as quickly
unless they drop another generation of mbps ofcourse, then you're fucked.
if I were you I'd go for an ultrabook. if I were me I'd ofcourse buy a refurbished thinkpad and swap out some of its specs to make an equivalent computer for like a third the cost of a mbp but "muh retina" sure sure
>>54678328
>unless they drop another generation of mbps ofcourse, then you're fucked.
Core2Duo MBPs still go for like $400-500
There are modern used laptops with far higher specs that sell for less used.
