What did you think of Ubik?
It sure seems to do a lot of very different things
I always get chills reading that last chapter
75% of PK Dick was pulpy, almost unreadable garbage. This was a good experimental novel. I like this PK Dick; paranoid, Californian, druggie, Gnostic, Dick.
"If he be Mr. Hyde . . . I shall be Mr. Seek."

Although I will say it gets quite a lot better if you have a passable knowledge of South American history to pick up some of the allegory. It's one of my favorites and you'll enjoy it regardless
>>8279092
What's some good books about passable knowledge about South American history?
"Little gay looking boy
So gay I can barely say it with a 'straight' face looking boy
You're witnessing a mass-occur like you're watching a church gathering
And take place looking boy
Oy vey, that boy's gay
That's all they say looking boy
You get a thumbs up, pat on the back
And a "way to go" from your label every day looking boy"
What did he mean by this?
>Eminem memes on lit
rock on
Im not a native english-speaker, but doesn't gay mean jolly, happy, etc?

It means cock-sucking now. I blame the homosexuals for that
Why do SJWs not realize that Ignatius J. Reilly is a parody of them, not of conservatives?
>narcissistic
>useless degree
>obese
>political "activist"
>sexually deranged
This is a parody of college SJWs decades before they came into full bloom. It's like they're too autistic to realize that Ignatius is just an upside down version of themselves meant to highlight the stupidity of collegiate idealism.
No, the girl whatserface is a parody of SJWs, Ignatius is a parody of us.

>implying they're not two parts of the same whole

Are you dense? Ignatius is literally /pol/ before the internet existed.
Are there any good anthologies on philosophy?
I don't want to read the tomes of dozens of philosophers. I can read a couple if they particularly interest me. But there are too many to study them all; I have other things going on in life. I would however enjoy reading lets say 100 pages on a particular philosopher, his life, his philosophy, and important quotes. Maybe there's a larger collection with something like what I'm talking about?
Think by Simon Blackburn is a good intro.
Nothing beats reading them though, even he admits that. You don't get the whole point across.

Just finished IJ. Big plot hole though, wondering if anyone noticed itHow does Orin know that entertainment is lethal?Joelle doesn't know about it until later, he wasn't close to his dad, he couldn't have watched it... maybe Mario knew, DFW mentions that no one really asks Mario about their Dad, but even then there's nothing to suggest that he knew about its purpose or its effects or even its existence really?
Prove me wrong /lit/, please do
It's implied that he can force information out of Mario, and that he was the one to dig it out of the grave. Mario is implied to have known that things were buried in place of his head (I think it says somewhere only Avril and him might've known this, not sure), and there's that whole section describing its first viewings, which establish the order in which it was sent: first to various catridge/film critics (right?), then Avril's various lovers (I think). The only real hole is why he would send it in the first place, to the first people, the various film...

Don't.
why do you get emotional
I became an avid reader like three months ago and I can't stop. I stopped watching tv and I don't spend much time on 4chan anymore.
Here's how I did it.
-Remember the average person reads like zero books a year. If you read 5 pages a day, you are 5 pages above the average person
-Don't force yourself to read. Commit to read 5 pages a day. I swear after three days you'll feel like reading more and after a month or so you should be reading 50-100 pages a day for pleasure
-Read various books at the same time. When I grab a difficult...

it was not an 'actual death.'
Fug you guys. Just read this and I feel empty inside. Am I missing something or is it just an incredibly sad story?
At first I felt like becoming a cockroach would be the ultimate neet lifestyle, but then it impacts everyone and everything around you and everything turns to shit
What's wrong with it being an incredible sad story?
