Hey /lit/,

I heard you like books and I need your help. I have an idea for writing a novel, my grammar is shitty and I don't read enough but I have a shitty idea.

Tell me how shitty it is, feel free to completely tear me apart. If you'd read it, assuming the prose is decent then tell me how I could improve it.

- The future and humans have evolved in to hybrid animals
- Sea people, flying people, people who hunt like tigers, people who are big big big
- There was mass extinction on earth and we lost most of our animals
- We had to leave the planet and find another one in another galaxy that was almost identical
- A scientist wanted to recreate old animals but unable to
- Has to be recreated within a living thing
- Made people/animal hybrids
- Eventually animal hybrids took over
- Now there are not many original humans left
- Huge people/animal hybrids rule new earth
- And they battle
- They started off kind of stupid but evolved to be smarter
- Now they are discovering how to use the electronics and space travel that make created by their human ancestors
- They will be able to battle in space maybe?

Other possible idea

- After his only close relationship ends a neurotic loner finds some confidence by sabotaging other people’s relationships, eventually things are out of hand, he's a complete dick, somehow transitions to chad. The development of this character is similar to Lester Nygaard in Fargo, if you've seen it.

No, I am not a serious writer, I just want to create something. Something that doesn't make people cringe too much.

Thanks in advance

I probably wouldn't be interested in any sort of furry novel, no.

You're making a fundamental newbie error here of thinking that the idea for the plot is what's important. You could have the most innovative and interesting plot in the world, but it's nothing without the writing that frames it. Not just the prose style but the characters, their relationships and dialogue and so on. Work on your writing, what you actually write about is mostly irrelevant.
>>

>how did I not notice that it's furry as fuck

You're probably right, but I find it difficult to write anything without a plot. Though I am only just starting out.

Writing is fucking difficult.
>>
>>7524122
Start by writing some short plot arcs, perhaps set within that universe if you like. Some minor characters in little conflicts that would be important to the plot.
It's not difficult so much as a slog, time consuming.

What's the appeal of pic related?

Only a few of us can actually read the book, and even fewer people understand what the fuck Joyce was talking about.

All I know is some guy posted here a few months ago that on Thanksgiving Day he went to a used book store and read aloud from Finnegans Wake and cried at its beauty right there in the store. I called him a weirdo or something and asked him why he wasn't with his family and friends on that day and he gave me a lecture about not judging people or something.

Wait a second, why was the store open on Thanksgiving? Wouldn't it be closed? God damn, man, I've been trolled. Trolled again. I hate online.

I remember that thread. Why did you feel the need to do that though? You came into a thread just to insult what was for him clearly a very meaningful existence and tell him that he should have spent the day doing something that you think is good. Tbqh his anger at you was warranted and from the way you've written this comment it is apparent that you are still an asshole.

Funny? Bizarre? Random? Off-the-wall? Meatwad?

Oh yeah, that's a Thomas Pynchon deluxe comin' at ya.

Maybe if instead your picture had a talking bana...oops, don't want to spoil the best part of the book. Let's just say a certain "tommy p" (real name? who knows? noones ever seen him--seriously. but he has done...get this...a simpsons cameo!) has you covered. It's a smart book that makes you laugh at the same time, it remins me a lot of that picture of einstein with his tongue sticking out

Don't worry about reading any more than 75% of his complete writings. That's really all you need.

Disagree, nothing less than 78% will suffice.

read the entire Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy page on him.
Beautifully and succinctly summarizes his ideas, would also reccomend for any other philosophy you wanna know about.
Shouldn't take you more than 20 minutes

not literature
>>
It was very amusing when I read it in middle school.

You should be happy that literature is not popular because then you would get a bunch of imposter meme artists get all the praise like /tv/ and /mu/ get Kanye West or Wes Anderson, total shit artists praised as the next big thing. /lit/ never produce these memes cause there is no reddit-bucks in it.

what was the meaning of the "Floundering Four" chapter?
13 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>meaning

in what way? slothrop's mind having fractured he runs through some kind of bizzare comic book scenario parodying the fantastic four
if you want some literality to it, the 'hour' he's looking for may or may not be the discharge papers from gerhardt von goll

but 'meaning?' hmmm
if nothing else it's worth the note that slothrop's ancestors had spiritual deaths in which they saw god's hand reach out towards them in their darkest moments
slothrop, child of the modern waste land finds his darkest hour filtered through a lens of cradling pop culture imagery
>>
>>7523621
so who are the other three characters supposed to be? Marcel, Myrtle, Maximilian, are they supposed to represent characters from the book? Or are they just separate incarnations of Slothrop?

Is anyone else on here addicted to buying books on Amazon? I mean, lots and lots of books, especially used books that are just a few dollars (+3.99 shipping)?

I don't even know how I have the money to buy all the books I buy!! And my "to be read" pile would take me 5 years to read through anyway at this point.

I keep saying to myself, "Okay, after these books, no more until I've read everything I have," but I never can wait! I just ordered 18 books, all at once, and they were all used, so I'll have to go to the post office to pick them up, and carry home a giant pile of materialistic shame all at once.

What's up with all the pseudoscience

The Biology of Belief (2005) by Bruce Lipton

What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About™: Parkinson’s Disease: A Holistic Program for Optimal Wellness (2003) by Mary J. Shomon, Jill Marjama-Lyons

Then there's a lot of "modern American lit" that I suppose he only has on his list because his publisher sent him these books for advertising, and even more books about drugs

Weird list

The fiction he reads falls into three categories:
1. Rereading the same four or five authors he's reread for years. Lin has never been well-read. I doubt he's ever read a novel published before 1960 except for school.

2. The books of his friends, people dependent upon his own career, like Sam Pink or Elizabeth Ellen. You know, in an interview, Lin said he didn't like to talk to writers more famous than he was. He does not read other writers, including young NYC writers, outside of his followers.

3. His boss at Sarah Lawrence, Brian Morton -- who actually is a great novelist, but definitely someone whose books Lin wouldn't touch if he wasn't his boss.

Just read Brave New World.
What do you guys think? I loved it, I read it in two sittings.

Can we have a thread about writers and their relationships with one another?

I know very little except that Hemingway, Ezra Pound, Joyce, Gertrude Stein and F Scott Fitzgerald all kind of hung out together. I know that Hemingway thought Joyce was great and that Fitzgerald was a sellout and Stein was a bitch. But I've only read his opinions.

I'd like to know more about the literary world. Who admired who? Who hated who? Who had fist-fights? Any time period. Photos would be nice, too.

Hans Christien Andersen was friends with Dickens for a time, until he went to briefly visit Dickens in England and ended up staying for something like two months. Apparently HCA didn't realize this was rude, but Dickens was so furious about it that the friendship ended.

Didn't Wittgenstein and Russell know each other and Wittgenstein was constantly an autistic pain in the ass to Russell?

Also, much more famously, Schopenhauer was a professor at the same university at Hegel and was jealous as fuck of all the attention Hegel received. That jealousy is actually the core of Schopenhauer's philosophy, it's pretty cringy.

geez, what a pathetic, stupid woman.

I'm sick to shit of spoiled, middle class white American princesses and their "depression."

Everyone wants to be a victim, and "suffering" from depression is the easiest way.
