I'm looking for poetic writing filled with poetic passion and abstraction, like your mind in the height of listening to a sun ra jazz song. That psychedelic moment where you feel instead of thing, but capturing it in all it's poetic irony, contradictions, it's pure human nature and complex abstraction. Do you know of works like these?
Hilda Doolittle, usually published under HD

I will investigate this further, thank you.
The Changing Light At Sandover, particularly in the cosmology department.
Do you think in the current PC climate a fantasy book like TLoR about blacks and african lore should be well received?
Only white women would read it.
>>8140529
Yeah, obviously. Binti is popular right now, so is NK Jemison etc.. If you throw at least one white dude in there who gets laid a lot, you can add whatever else you want.
>>8140529
Isn't that what Marlon James said he was in the process of writing?
I need to become a pseud and fast! what are some compulsory books every pseud should read?
/lit/
>>8140518
Nietzche, duh
>>8140518
Just read a bunch of Wikipedia articles on the subjects you wish to look like an expert in.
That's what I do
What are your reading habits like? Where, when, and how often do you read? Not including books for school.
I read 1000~1200 pages a day with 15 to 18 hours of reading.

Lucky punk. Are you on summer break or is that average for you year around?
>>8140549
My name is Sebastian, that's all I can share.
What books, if read, will help me to enter the United States Northeast social elite?
>>8140480
>>8140480
Memes aside:
>high school assigned books
>SAT study guide
>fraternity/secret society initiation book
>Ivy League/MIT assigned books
>LSAT/GMAT/MCAT study books
and so on. Nothing's perfect, but elite higher education is the fast track to what you're talking about. Just be sure to make friends while you're there.
To stay in the elite...

I'm like 30 pages in. I torrented the book so I was wondering if the book is supposed to be so inchohesive or it is an issue with the torrent I downloaded.
Are you talking about the lizard scene?
>>8140446
>reads dude drugs lmao: the book
>expects coherence
What do you mean by incohesive, anon?
The book, like most of Hunter's works, is pretty straightforward.
Mine: Pic related.
GO /lit/ GO!!
>>8140392
There's a GOAT movie by that book.
>>8140396
Really anon? I'll check it out.
>Thanks.
>>8140400

Just read/watch (almost) everything related to Bulgakov.
Hook me up with some good post apocalyptic fiction /lit/. Include titles accessible by free pdf, but don't hesitate to include others if they are in fact quality. Appreciate the help.
-Pic semi unrelated

1984 (obviously) - George Orwell
The Road - Cormac McCarthy
Metro 2033 - Dmitry Glukhovsky (not had chance to read the sequels, Metro 2034 and Metro 2035)
I Have No Mouth & I Must Scream - Harlan Ellison
Junji Ito's Uzamaki and Gyo books become disturbingly dystopian meets grotesque body horror.
>>8140340

Coming of age stuff that doesn't suck? Read this recently, and although it was somewhat relate-able as a 20-something-year-old, Murakami seemed scattered brained and unable to make any significant points.
Why does there have to be a "point"? It's a beautiful novel about tenderness, unhappiness and regret.
>scattered brained
>reading hacks
Recommend literature from languages that don't get mentioned around here very often. Languages like Finnish, Dutch, Hungarian, Polish, Thai, Hindi, etc.
Dutch: Harry Mulisch, De ontdekking van de hemel
Dutch: Willem Frederik Hermans, Nooit meer slapen
>>8140133
>Nooit meer slapen
I won't. I promise.
Just give us some good recommendations.
>A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
>it's a book
>and he's a writer, not an artist
if you ever meme again i'll fuck you up
Shouldn't it be A Novel About the Writer as a Young Man
or Young Guy, to make it less dry?
Okay, /lit/, just finished pic related.
My quick thoughts:
>Decent characterization of Kelvin and Snaut
>Great world building that seemed jarringly out of place for a novel of this short length
>Philosophical ideas were introduced as surface level claims and then never substantiated with further in-depth analysis
>Intentional ambiguous prose came off as an annoyance and failed to create the childlike wonder I can only assume Lem was going forComment too long. Click here to view the full text.

I thought it was meh also. the actions of the other scientists were so retarded.
i thought it was a philosophical mindfuck
>>8139907
I was intrigued by his philosophical claims, but disappointed to find that they really went nowhere.
Sometimes being left with more questions than answers is a good thing but, in this case, it failed to make an impact.
what if I told you about the dragontails, what would you expect from such a tale?
a philosophical mindfuck

Hello lit I'm looking for non sci-fi or cyberpunk books that have the same philosophical aspects of movies like End of Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell, Akira, serial experiments Lain and Blade Runner. I prefer if it was beautifully written, I'm not just looking to read something for the sake of reading something, I really want to enjoy it. I really like the sorts of books that can change your life and stay in your memory for a long time, ever.
looking for a philosophical mindfuck?
>>8139878
I'm not quite sure how to answer that.
that game is free on gog today
