Is the difficulty of this book exaggerated?

aint bad, it's such a good book that any difficulty is worth it though, to me anyway. some people don't like it, there are long stretches of dryness. Maybe the difficulty is more from how most people typically expect a lot of action, and that's not in this book. It's dry. (worth it for the sperm squishing though, i assure you.)

A lot of this sort of thing were categorized as "boy's adventure" books.
I don't think the book is difficult, I just think sometimes Melville needs to quit jacking off to his prose and just tell the damn story. One unfounded criticism is people bitching about the digressions about the whaling business, but fuck you, you're getting some education out of your literature.
How much money can someone realistically make with writing?
Not talking about some meme lottery books like 50 shades of Grey, but rather if I get to publish an average popular non fiction book.

Jesus fucking christ no. It's like saying you want to be "a director." You can go make your own shit if you want, but it'll just be a hobby. You can sorta branch out into related stuff, like commercial editing, but that isn't really the same. The only people who actually become "a director" or "a writer" are insanely lucky or have some weird perfect storm of credentials that allows them to sell shit like GOOGLY-EYES: THE RIVETING TALE OF HOW NIGGERS WITH DYSLEXIA SAVED THE PRINTING PRESS, BY STEPHEN JAY PINKER. Literally like 98% of what is published and remotely commercially successful these days, even at a low level, is vampire penis erotica for teenage retards who should be killed.

Is it any good? Seems like an interesting plot, but do I need to start with earlier pynchon? I also read that Gaddis' work had some influence on this, should I read recognitions first?

I got the meme book gravity's rainbow and was looking on the internet for info about it and it turns out pynchon was mentioned on the simpsons a few times. This impressed me, at first, because I like the simpsons but then I learned that all the references were made after the show turned to trash. Should I still read it, knowing that the hack, later period, simpsons writers like it? More importantly, I got the penguin's classic version, do the errors really make a difference?

Having read George RR Martin's collection of short stories he wrote prior to A Song of Ice and Fire, I've come to like them about as much if not more than the fantasy series. I'd recommend The Fortress, The Hero, The Second Kind of Loneliness, With Morning Comes Mistfall, A Song for Lya, This Tower of Ashes, And Seven Times Never Kill Man, Bitterblooms, The Way of Cross and Dragon, The Lonely Songs of Laren Dorr, The Ice Dragon, Remembering Melody, SANDKINGS, Nightflyers, The Monkey Treatment, most of his Tuf shorts, The Skin Trade, The Hedge Knight, and Portraits of His Children. A good chunk of the short story volumes are gold.

Will forcing myself to read eventually make me smarter? I can only read 2 and 1 half paragraphs before I get bored as hell. I feel myself getting dumber and dumber as the months go by. I can barely form 2 full sentences during an attempted conversation. It's either a one word reply or half a sentence before the person gets sick of my shit and leaves.

What's a book that will bring some warmth to the jaded and cynical eyes, of a young man who is just tired of the world and doesn't really want to do anything? I mean like a story. Idk what kind of story, but something for me personally. I've grown so tired of everything, I don't really feel like doing anything. I don't feel like going out and making friends, I don't feel like creating anything artistic, I don't feel like trying to pursue a job, oh hell I don't feel like trying to pursue a job. I'm just tired and fed up with the world, I wish that I knew some writers who feel the same, or something that will bring some warmth to my jaded and cynical mind. I feel unamused by just about everything, but I feel like I've been robbed and I'm still owed my due. I'm waiting to wake up in a utopian society 1000 years in the future, where they've saved my brain, and all the hardships and prejudice and stupidity and ignorance of the past is behind me. I don't necessarily want that in the story, but that's really all that I think would make me happy in this life. So what's it gonna be familia?

i was thinking if all else fails just to throw them up on freecycle, or craigslist free.
