What do you all think of this statement Stephen King makes:
>"People will say, 'Do you keep a notebook?' and the answer is I think a writer's notebook is the best way in the world to immortalize bad ideas."
It's the second answer in this video:

Never much cared for the pulpiness of King, but I always really dug his creative prowess. Interesting points of advice, my big takeaway is 'do, and do often'
>>7424314
I think he didn't answer the fucking question. Does he keep a notebook or not?
No need for him to keep a notebook when all his shitty ideas just end up in a book. Editing also seems like something he can do without.
I have never seen bread on /lit/ about this man, one of the best and most important novelists of the twentieth century. Now's your chance, memesters.
So I'm right to think none of you have heard of the author of "Tree of Man" and "The Vivesector"?
I'm stunned. You people need to read more.
>implying this board isn't just filled with underage Pynchon memers
>>7424324
I'm sure several of us have heard of him.
How about telling us what's so great about him. I've wondered about him.
I just got a book in the mail, but I have no idea what it could be. I've completely forgotten what it is.
What do you fuckers think? In a perfect world, what book is this going to be?Also: Haul thread
IT'S THE YEAR 2015 AND YOU'RE STILL BUYING BOOKS?!
>>7424213
Give me a hint senpai, what are the initials of the author?
>>7424235
I have no idea. I'm completely in the dark.
What do you think?

Why are you so vain and superficial to care about what some random person on twitter posts?
>>7424176
you could be addressing both the OP and the girl who is tweeting
>>7424179
Yeah sure.
I have no attention span for reading anymore but wanna ease back into it. If I start a long novel I know I won't finish it and lose focus/interest, I just want something that I can easily pick up without investing myself for more than a few pages until I get used to the habit of daily reading. So I'm mostly looking for short stories, essays, poetry, diaries or conversations.
I just picked up Ficciones, conversation book with Orson Welles (My Lunches With Orson), Montaigne's essays, some Rimbaud poems and Kafka's diaries.
What would lit recommend...

Stoner got me back into reading a while back. It's not very long at all.
>book is spoiled in the foreward
>Believing a 10+ year old book should have to worry about spoilers
Darth Vader is Luke's father.
Anna Karenina is run over by a Train.
Ippolit kills Ostap but the jewels have already been found by others.
Personally I believe that only severely unintelligent people are bothered by spoilers
It's like, if you read the book and read it a second time, could you not enjoy it even though you know what happens?
Does the physical location of a writer effect the quality of what that writer will create?
Will someone living in Springfield, Illinois be able to write as well as someone living in Rovaniemi, Lapland?
>>7424066
why not
intellectual curiosity and one's own memories and experiences are a larger factor than current physical location, i like to believe
although traveling is good for these things, i think it's more to explore the world and build your internal language than finding some ideal spot for writing that probably doesn't exist
Affect.faggot ass niger
>Does the physical location of a writer effect the quality of what that writer will create?
possibly. Location affects your education, experiences, and culture which influences a lot of how you perceive the world. That is all to say this isn't particularly true if you are more curious than others in your area and read, travel, etc.
>Will someone living in Springfield, Illinois be able to write as well as someone living in Rovaniemi, Lapland?
that is dependent on the person.
Why is it acceptable and the expected behaviour to wank over Greek legends but spit on American legends?
>>7424008
>>7424008
Because the Greek ones are good and not masturbation aids for teenage self esteem. Thanks for playing, now get out.
>>7424012
What were the Greek legends if not masturbation aids for old men attempting to give human flaws to the divine beings they thought ruled over them?
Haven't been on here in a few years... you guys still into Stirner? Or are you all reactionary losers like most of 4chan?
stirner is reactionary

"The labourers have the most enormous power in their hands, and, if they once became thoroughly conscious of it and used it, nothing would withstand them; they would only have to stop labour, regard the product of labour as theirs, and enjoy it. This is the sense of the labour disturbances which show themselves here and there.
The state rests on the – slavery of labour. If labour becomes free, the state is lost." - Max Stirner
I want to make money somehow, by writing. Let's say 1000 bucks. Timeframe is about three months, but I'll have to manage some other commitments, too.
Idea:
>SciFi Space Opera (escapist), because I know about lasers
>niveau shoulde be pulpy/at the level of bad airport lit/good fanfiction
>mishmash of Trek, Firefly and a flavor of grimdarkness

Got a link :3 ?

Found one site a long time ago that had a long list of prompts and requirements, pay and deadlines. Considered writing smut in a wild west setting, decided I was too inexperienced, dropped it.
books are an outdated and highly overrated and overestimated form of presenting information and are no more legit than articles on the internet
> read this book, it'll change your life
> useless info you can easily find online presented with 1000% more padding and 1000% less straight and to the point
literally anyone can write a book, but they are hailed as fail proof sources of information, despite the high chance of everything in it to be straight bullshit
Prove me wrong, /lit/tards
> books give you all the perspective on the world you need
> i prefer books to people
From these commonly heard arguments we can infer that:
> a) bookworms think they're special for consuming a medium
> b) they're no better than gamers, basement dwellers and other media addicts, netting the same result of isolating themselves from social interaction by consuming their time with media, even though they often criticize these other media addictsComment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>they are hailed as fail proof sources of information
How do you mean? Only some books are and only by some people.
>>7423953
People tend to take things more seriously if they're written in a book despite this not really being a reason it would be more legit than anything else
Has anyone here ever locked themselves in their room with a ton of drugs for a week - to speed write a full novel?

All the good novelists do that except Stephen King, maybe not in one binge
Who /utilitarian/ here?

Me, sort of.
There is no perfect objective measure of good, so greater good is a bit of a crazy ideal, but I feel it is a beautiful thought.
Why do I continually figure out the most productive and sensible course of action and then immediately do the opposite?
Every time I set up a list if things to do for the day I spend all my time drinking coffee, browsing 4chan, and avoiding work. I feel like I'm constantly falling for the naturalistic fallacy. I get the idea that scheduling stuff is keking myself.
And the ironic thing is that the stuff I schedule is genuinely interesting and rewarding.
Is my predicament a sign of an unparalleled genius unwilling to make the first step unless that step...

You can do whatever you want. Fight the instincts that tell you to do nothing or just accept you'll never do anything. It's as simple as getting up and doing it, even though there is something telling you not to.
No need to pepe rage.
Sage.

The fact that you procrastinate uncontrollably, post frog pictures and suspect yourself of genius tells me that you are, in fact, a deluded fucking moron.
What's your favorite part of Hitler's masterpiece: Mein Kampf?
I really like the part's about his early life in art school, and how his view of the world was formed
I liked the part where he killed himself.
(Its in the sequel)
I enjoy the part where he highlights what its like to argue with communists, pretty funny
And his military exploits, motivating lazy soldiers to smarten the fuck up
His love-hate yaoi relationship with Wittgenstein
