Okay, so this has been bothering me for awhile. Googling has turned up nothing. What is exactly is "The Zone"? It seems to include a variety of areas. I'm 557 pages in, did I miss an explicit explanation somewhere?

Listen to "Niggas in Paris" by Kanye West and Jay Z. Pynchon was inspired by that song when he wrote Gravity's Rainbow.

Meta thread?

Meta thread.

We do polls and infographics about books etc all the time, but does anyone want to help me sort out the chronology of /lit/'s meme authors? What i've come up with is hardly comprehensive and some of the chronology is surely wrong.

>Ayn Rand; from day one, she was this board's troll magnet, leading to pic related
>Murakami; general agreement/frequent subject of posts
>Borges; general agreement/frequent subject of posts
>Brautigan; meme status fizzled, but was really popular for a few days, IIRC. maybe not list material.
>Tao Lin; he came here
>Joyce; ares full of farts, meme trilogy
>DWF; general agreement/frequent subject of posts, meme trilogy
>Pinecone; general agreement/frequent subject of posts, meme trilogy, alleged to have come here, but that was outed as a ruse i think. good thread, though.
>Stirner; >muh spooks
>"trolley problem"; not really an author, i guess
>Kharms; iranbro
>"start with the greeks"; we always had a lot of philo threads but i don't remember a specific greek being a meme until they were encapsulated by the SWtG meme. could totally be wrong, tho.
>Dworkin, current shitty forced meme

DFW was probably earlier? I want to say maybe Orson Scott Card and GRRM go on here somewhere, but not sure they defined the board culture, since we tend to shit on genre? i mean Rowling and Meyers got posted enough to be memetic, i suppose, but only because they were memes of the larger culture, not specifically /lit/.

i was focusing on authors, but we could open it up to all our memes if we want.

Dresden Files were a meme for a little bit. I fell for it and had to read 3 books before I realized /lit/ is full of shit.

I'll put my question here I guess. What are some books that deal with finding meaning in life when there doesn't seem to be any? I haven't read DFW, does he fit here?

Writers: what does your book have that others don't? Why should readers choose your work over another's?

Because my book is more addictive than cocaine. Once you take one sniff of my first paragraph your panties will moisten, your eyes will roll over, your tongue will loll out of your gaping mouth and your toes will writhe in orgasmic comedown. If you are 13-56 a woman and like to read, give me your money now.

Good day, gentlemen. I as a Russian virgin of my own literature was reflecting about whether or not should I start off reading this book or any other Tolstoy's work in particular? For it seems to me that this book was likely made either for little girls or stupid homy maids. Nonetheless if it's not so, could you explain why is this considered to be a classic with such a suspicious title on it? I mean I'm told that what was written in the book is all about stupid love and freaking ho Anna Karenina herself and her further suicide (fuck yea, I wish all whores did it prospectively). Anyways, the main reason me being here is your personal and independent advise regarding the book.

Depends on what you do there.

Reading literature? Live there for all we care.

Writing? Have a novel next to your laptop. No one will judge you too harshly for it.

Jerking off? Try to do it in the 500s. No one will notice, or care.

Jerking off near the kids' section? Lord help you, you deserve to be judged.

>The casting of a black actress as Hermione, a role portrayed in the films by Emma Watson, has garnered the most attention, leading Rowling to tweet, “Canon: brown eyes, frizzy hair and very clever. White skin was never specified. Rowling loves black Hermione.”
