Stirner and Nietzsche are the smuggest fucks philosophy has yet produced. French guys who took after them were too busy fucking kids and other men to attain the same level of smugness.

This, and also download a good dictionary app. Every time I come across a word I don't know I can just look it up, add it to my list, and move on. Learned a lot of great words that way. Like badinage.

>been experiencing a bout of anhedonia for the past week
>can't find the motivation to read or do anything else i normally find pleasurable
>can barely even tolerate browsing the web and shitposting all day

i don't know wtf to do, /lit/. i've always been prone to these feelings, but typically they won't last longer than a day or two. this has been a week and doesn't show any signs of slowing down. what do you do when reading & other activities no longer bring you pleasure and you feel a pervasive numbness throughout your system?

i don't even feel that bad or sad though, certainly not like i did a few years ago. just incapable of enjoying things as deeply as i once did and chronically bored.

What are the best short stories? I'm looking for something a bit on the darker, heavier, intellectual side of things. I've had my eye on Kafka's short stories, idk if it's worth it.

kafka's good. try the illustrated man by bradbury too. if you're snooty about genre you could read nabokov's shorts which tend to be dark too

How should I take notes while reading?
Do you just write shit like lines that interested you, and maybe the reason why they interested you?
How do you take notes, if you do?

>how the hell can a book I dislike and written by a roastie be popular?

SJW is pretty hot right now. It has been for a couple of years but now it has reach its peak in America, hence its just a matter of time before it gets to the rest of the world with that level. Thing is, literature, movies, etc... travel faster than trends as a whole so when you have 3 movie franchises about rebel teen grill saving the world from an evil fascist dystopia youngsters bite into it in a hope for something that fills their personality in an age where they desperately try to distinguish themselves from their parents and what they perceive to be the "masses" so they go, enjoy the movie about the rebel grill and read the YA fanfic wich is extremely easy to read to a starter reader.
Have you ever wonder why YA fanfic has so many recognizable icons? HP and The Hunger Games has amulets that you can see being sold everywhere no matter if it's a comic con, a book related event or even an otaku convention.

So yeah. Its not that YA fanfic is full SJW, but its plagued with ideas from it and soon enough the next big YA fanfic that will have a 7 part film series will be even more ridiculous and obvious in their intent to propagate their ideology.
At the end of the day literature is a method to express ideas so its only logical that SJW bullshit will make its appearance. The real issue is that there is literally nothing literary worthwhile that promotes any type of social justice thinking.

Suck my sweaty hairy balls.

I'm becoming increasingly convinced I can't be happy for any significant stretch of time. what can i read that will convince me otherwise or convince me to try anyway? it seems like everything I do is wrong and i feel hopeless but I cant bring myself to kill myself. Even the happy people lose their health, loved ones & sanity by the end of this pointless struggle.

Those are good books to read, minus Harris. They won't help with depression though.

Harris's "Waking Up" podcast is pretty good. You can listen to that and get his ideas without having to read a whole book.

At the end of the day, OP, you just need to buck up and throw off your jew-induced millennial malaise, you fuckin pussy.
>>
Your problem is you believe that people are only happy because they are deluded. You confirm this because you observe that people who are happy, also believe delusions (e.g. socialism, God, whatnot). You need to realize that is confirmation bias. There is nothing wrong with being happy with yourself or who you are (indeed, what else would you be happy with?). You don't need a good reason to be happy; being happy is enough reason to be happy.

Only self-help book I know you might like is Fuck Feelings by Michael and Sarah Bennett.

Goethe places some wisdom on Faust's lips:
"It's not refreshment you have won
Unless it springs from your own soul."

Mein Kampf was trash and the moral landscape does say happiness is everything. the whole point of the book is maximizing well being for the largest possible number of creatures. also you sound like you need to be locked up. killing nd discrimination doesn't led to the well being of creatures because their will always be people who want to kill you. everyone being n asshole doesnt make the world a better place sorry, im sure you work very hard maintaining the idea that everyone is bad but you one day youll grow up. i agree cultural relativism is bullshit but you really only increase the hate making negative experiences more likely

> buck up and throw off your jew-induced millennial malaise, you fuckin pussy.
so its everyone else's fault? if somebody is mentally ill it isnt them or their brain but the jews pulling the strings? by >>8249856 supremacist mentality doesnt that mean jews deserve to run the world if they supposedly do already? people do crazy things to convince themselves it not their fault their life sucks

Nabokov's stories are very well-crafted, and he portrays his characters with great subtlety and detail. What he lacks is emotion, but that's not what your graph is measuring.

how did you do that

lit is there a good book about someone who goes back far into the past and uses his modern knowledge to his advantage?

one flaw is that nobody gives a shit and I'm all the hoot in the academy
>>

yeah that caused a lot of problems internationally and they're still going. it's not really a flaw in Schopenhauer though because he did try to warn us.

Also >>8249762 read the fucking catalog before posting. this is like the fifth thread on Schopenhauer today because some buttblasted babies keep ditching threads to create new ones about him once anon proves that they haven't read or understood him. they're all still in the catalog, so you don't need to kill threads about shit other than Schopenhauer.
