Hey, /lit/.
Wanna hear an excerpt from a notebook I found in the back of the auditorium? Depressing shit.

As a creepy kid who often wrote in notebooks at school, yes please
Go on
Yeah
>haven't read an unassigned book since the 12th grade
>every time I try to get into a book, I lose interest
>tfw I've lost the attention span to pay attention to anything that isn't a comic book or a manga
What happened to me?
How do I get back into books, /lit/?
Read Nine Stories
Try light novels. They're like manga, but with words. Kino's Journey is decently literary and a good place to start. You may also want to look into Fate/Zero, and Welcome to the NHK.
>>7828725
I already saw their anime adaptations. Are the light novels different?
So I just finished this and it's perfect, 11/10, best novel of all time. Not only is it structurally perfect, it's extremely emotional. I know it's a meme but if you've read it, what's your opinion on it?
it's ok.

I'm working on an Spanish spelling reform for a novel, and would like some input. Here's the opening lines of Don Quixote:
I like buying books but I don't like reading them, I used to love reading in elementary through high school. I have my favorite books, I even tend to buy a certain type of book, I sometimes start them, but most times I don't. I even like the ones I start, I just never finish them. I just like filling up the shelves more than anything. IDK maybe I like the idea of being a reader.
How do I fix this?
shitpost on /lit/ about it. great start
>>7830534
I'm serious, I feel like I like the concept of reading more than the act of it.

How does Amazon's ad thing work?
>>7830020
The parameters are more or less
1. By interest or by specific books (by interest shows up on the website and on kindles, specific books only show up on the website itself)
2. Your cost per click
3. Quick rollout or smooth rollout (smooth supposedly lets the ad run its full length while quick makes it pop up ASAP, there's some other mumbo jumbo about whether it's available on Kindle or only on the website involved in this as well)
The minimum budget they'll take is $100, they only charge you for what's spent (based on how many clicks there are) and you can cancel it at any time.
>>7830031
Also, you can run a $100 budget ad at 50 cents per click, meaning you'd be paying 100 bucks for 200 clicks assuming you actually run through all your allotted funds by the end date you set.

Hey /lit/,
This is not about literature but I figured you guys could help me with this. Non native English speaker here. I need a term to name the structures as seen in the pic I posted.
They're lines radiating from the inner side of a circumference. What should be the best word for it?
Thanks
P.S. The drawing represents a biological structure but it's not really relevant.

Is this UNREADABLE
I just finished my first novella, its only about 100 pages long so Im just going to self publish, im not expecting any great returns but if i can get my story out there and make a few fans that would be fun.
Its about a talent agent who hires attractive girls to make youtube videos posing as video game/comic/anime reviewers with manic pixie dreamgirl personas
Here is the first chapter
(i gave it to a friend to read and he said it had a bunch of errors and stuff in it and needs to be heavily edited, I went over it again and again and I can't see what hes talking about, do i just suck that much??)
http://pastebin.com/6rntaqzU
line 32. "firs"
line 83. "that which teenagers are want to do."
those are the blatant errors that I caught... there could be more
some of the dialogue is a little clunky, a little forced and unnatural. like when the texan says "...faster than an african at a klan meeting". it would be good, i think, to just leave it as "shitting missles" which was funny.
also, halfway through their conversation, the main character realizes he's got about an hour before his flight, then in what would take about 2 minutes, realizes his flight is about to board? the timing is a little... unatural... not sure if that's the best way to put it
it's a bit rough but totally not un-readable... i actually really like where this is heading. it could use some editing, sure, but really what book/piece by an author in infancy doesn't
im REALLY interested in reading the rest actually... can you e-mail me the whole thing maybe? i'll read it over and give you more feedback if you'd like
Change that cover, looks way too played out.
I can make you one for free if you are interested since I'm bored
Don't publish, even self publish, a work you have just finished. You need space from it. You have spent so long inspecting its minute details that you can't see the whole properly. If you give it a month and reread it you will see so many glaring problems that you can't see now.
can /lit/ recommend any such works?
I'm 24 years old, about to receive my Master of Accountancy degree, and I just don't feel as sophisticated, eloquent, articulate, etc. as someone with my sort of credentials should.
pic possibly related. He seems like an interesting character and I've enjoyed watching Firing Line.

Anything by Oscar Wilde.
If you can't actually be sophisticated, at least give the appearance of looking as such.
>>7828346

>>7828346
Marcus Aurelius' Meditations
Schopenhauer's Art of Being Right
Oscar Wilde
Anything by Cicero
Or maybe you should just read biographies or autobiographies of people you find sophisticated, eloquent or articulate.
am i the only one who can't get into don quixote
I bought it after friend recommended me but i don't seem to be getting into it?
Is it my shit taste or the novel overrated?
tfw no one replies to you
>>7828174
I bought it very recently without knowing much about it and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Are you reading it as a comedy? That's what it is.
>>7828174
Might be the translation's fault. English isn't a very good language for humor and simple people talking.
Why doesn't he want to be photographed?
Sorry to steal your thunder OP, but I am genuinely curious about the meaning behind his anteater quote. Can anyone explain it for me?
>>7828065
Probably because he doesn't want to get recognized
Because he's smart and knows that fame eventually leads to alienation and misery
>mtw you realize alt lit is the beat generation of the 21st century

You could be a conservative literary genius, like Ezra Pound and Gene Wolfe.
