Is The King in Yellow actually good or is it just a meme?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.

The Yellow Sign (one of the short stories in TKIY) is possibly the greatest short horror story ever written. Repairer of Reputations is pretty good as well. The rest is kind of meh. Altogether it is a very strange read.

Chambers is more down to earth than Lovecraft, so he tends to be more approachable.
>>
>>8244451
it's a meme
the usage-history of the meme in lit (and of course TV most recently) is much more interesting than the story
>>
It was ok. Chambers writes well, but the stories were no all that entertaining, at least the conclusion in many of them felt unclimactic.

What are some must-reads that only white college sophomore males from a middle-upper class background can truly understand?

Is this list sufficient?

Terence Kemp McKenna.
Rupert Sheldrake.
Ralph Abraham.

What can you tell me about them?

McKenna was the philosopher one, not in the academic sense of the word, but he wrote about the spirit, the reality, some way about ontology, also a little bit about epistemology. Of course was Sheldrake who made the further research in this field. As a biologist his evolutionary sensibility allowed him to threat the problem with knowledge from the scientific point of view as it deserves, without any reductionism, with the concept of resonances. Ralph Abraham was the compulsory mathematician: dynamics systems, chaos theory, stochasticity.

and of course drugs raves probably mental illnes

McKenna wrote about psychedelics mainly and his relationship with the human race and his evolution, mainly with the emergence of the mind (and consequently, the spirit). Food of the Gods maybe says something to your.

Sheldrake came with really interesting ideas of how biological systems can carry so much information, even more when you considerer humans, with all his complexity, on those. Migration patterns in animals are something that can not be fully modeled by biochemical reactions encoded in DNA.

Beautiful gibberish. They talk themselves in circles while jerking each other off. It goes nowhere and afterward you know what hippies are trying to say but you have no idea how old and how regurgitated these ideas are leading you to think you're a guru. Then you read real academics and move on with your life.

Proof that our "souls" can be made aware of anything even after we die and proof that you have as much chance of suffering after committing suicide as you do if you chose to continue to live. Looking for someone to prove this to via e-mail.

https://sites.google.com/site/paulobrienhunter is the information I'll be proving to someone hopefully. E-mail me your misunderstandings/disagreements to my e-mail, [email protected] and we can get started. I should reply within 24 hours if not much sooner.

Let's keep this on the front page so it can get more views.

Any suggestions where I can take this post to? Like what other forums?

Is this a joke? You're not the first person to think about Zeno's paradox. This is especially embarrassing coming from someone trying to ape the Tractatus.

You need to stop assuming your intuitions have anything to do with reality.

Since humans are sexual beings, is it necessary to emphasize the role of sexuality in all interactions? Would a book that doesn't point out characters' attractions and desires be unrealistic? Is there a point at which such an emphasis distracts from the book's plot? Would that be a bad thing, since sex can be distracting by nature?
Is a book about anything other than sex a waste of time?

I've thought about the idea of a genderless novel but ultimately I think being maximally descriptive is the best way to smash literary male hegemony

Guys, intellectually I'm all spooked out. I can't stand philosophy because of all the unfalsifiable garbage. Many fields like economics etc are just applied common sense and stamp collecting. I see novels as nothing but entertainment despite pretentious people claiming life / philosophical insights and tonnes of people will consider you a disgusting plebeian if you don't initially read shitloads of boring as fuck canon novels.

I think I am painfully adapting to the idea of the Internet age / information overload by abandoning any pretension that I can be an all rounder or even dilettante in everything. There are ten trillion books called "Introduction to [broad and important field]", even if you only have one of each field.

History is similar to novels. Shitloads of reading along with a shitload pretension thrown on top telling you that you truly cannot no nuthin unless you have an in depth understanding of the Greeks / Romans / Christianity / USA / WW1 / WW2 / financial systems / or shitloads of other topics I can't stand it. And then there's current events. I don't care about climate change, outer space, inequality, China, the EU (as long as it doesn't stir up too much shit), applied psychology, the education system, diversity (as long as people aren't treated badly), Russia, South America, refugees, nutrition, mental health, and more. Admitting just one of these would make me an iredeemable idiot, no doubt.

Has anyone else had similar thoughts? The spooks are powerful and must be removed but their removal leaves your mind in a promordial state that is more susceptible to spooks than before.

And obviously I have an existential crisis but /lit/ is fucking pathetic in demanding that anyone who has one should immediately "grow up" and become a monotheist and wagecuck. I fucking hate wagecucking. Seeing attractive young people is humiliating.

Oppression by something new is always certain, freedom isn't entirely possible.

Seems like you have reached the end of your tether with your relationship to written honesty and you got a great deal out of it. But what good does it do now? have some fun and try being skilfully dishonest for a while.

You don't have to define yourself as someone who only consumes like you have a fear of missing out on knowledge, there is also predicting the future, exercising power and creative pursuits like design.

>unfalsifiable garbage

In what sense does a given proposition surpass the threshold of unequivocal unfalsifiability?

>applied common sense

What, exactly, constitutes "common sense"?

>tonnes of people will consider you a disgusting plebeian (...) (sic.)

Why do you care about the majoritarian value-judgments of a surmised cohort man

Contending the entirety of "philosophy" is "unfalsifiable" is, per se, an epistemological proposition operating within some modal notional framework and equally subject to inquiry which, likewise, renders the utterance ultimately semantically ambiguous (insofar as its topical parameters are withheld).

Maybe you would find it more fruitful to reevaluate why you manifest the sentiments so described homie

I tired to read this but the amount of colloquialisms and jargon used this book made it a very difficult read. It was much more understandable in the movie for some reason.
